NCASE M1 version changelog and suggestions thread

IMHO. Less ventilation is not the best approach for achieving a silent build. Aim for components that produce less heat and cooling solutions that are passive or use slow moving extremely quiet fans.

NCASE M1 version changelog and suggestions thread

The M1 really is great - I love my M1! I can see that trying to add a hinge for the radiator plate is too problematic. I will say for me personally just about the only thing have found annoying about the M1 is having to screw in and screw out those 4 little screws holding the plate every...

    My 1st Mini-ITX Build!! (Intel)

The Prodigy is a little big for my tastes, but as long as you are happy that is all that matters. :) I love putting a system together with leftover and cheap parts - it's a lot of fun. You shouldn't even need a case fan. Just swap out the stock cpu cooler if you want it quieter. I like Noctua...

NCASE M1 version changelog and suggestions thread

I always remove the top panel by pulling up from that overhang. I have never even put the screw in the top panel and I have never had a problem "accidentally" removing the top when trying to lift the M1. If I want to lift the M1 I pick it up from the bottom or I grip the front and back...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

I love SPCR and HF, although I was a member of spcr long before I found HF. I love to apply what I haave learrned from SPCR (quiet systems) to what I learn here(extreme systems). My passion is making a fairly powerful system that is still as close to silent as possible. I think it is great...

Upgrading and want to go quieter, what should I use?

I had the ISK300-150. I ended up using a Samuel 17 w/ 120mmSlim Scythe SlipStream Fan, a 5570lp GPU and I scrapped the noisy power supply for a 160w Pico PSU. The system was virtually silent. You should easily be able to upgrade to a Sugo 5 and have a very quiet system. You just need to...

While that would be great for us - they have to meet MOQs and I seriously doubt they are interested in laying out $50K+ out of pocket to make things a little more convenient for buyers.

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

That's the spirit! :) Go for it! Just monitor your CPU temps so you can stop using it if you have a major problem - with thermal shutdown it is pretty hard to fry a CPU anyway. ps. I should be happy for all of the Aussies getting their cases but I am totally jealous an getting impatient...

What will your M1 build contain!?

My old WD Scorpio black 320gb just felt a lot slower than my 3.5" drives but I just took a look at a few benchmarks and the WD Black 2.5" seems to be faster than the Samsung F1. Maybe they have improved or I had a dud. It is a bit hard to tell because no one really tests them against each other...

What will your M1 build contain!?

You can use a Molex to SATA adapter. You can use a 2.5" hard drive. They are not as fast as 3.5" drives (no matter what the specs are) but they are smaller, use less power and give off less heat. The WD Black 2.5 drives are pretty good. You can also consider one of the hybrid drives with...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

That is basically what he is saying. The irregularities in voltage - primarily the drop in voltage on the 12v rail causes a need for higher current(Amps) to be drawn to maintain the required Power (P=VA), this can potentially damage components.

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

:) These things happen. On one of my older builds I had a Pentium Dual Core I was hitting 100°C under moderate load because I didn't seat the cooler correctly.:o Glad it is working out. Low 30s is pretty good. You probably have a bit of heat coming of the GPU and may have higher ambient temps...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

I think you are actually supposed to use the Velociraptor with the heat sink that makes it a 3.5" drive. But it is very fast for a hard drive. I personally have an SSD in my system as the OS drive and use a 3TB drive externally thru eSATA and I also have a NAS. If you do not want to use an...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Seems a bit hot. My 3570k idles around 23°C and hits around 43°C under regular use with a small cooler and fan. The first thing I was going to say was reapply the thermal paste - but you did that. I don't really understand how you have the fan mounted as I thought on that cooler the fan just...

    ST45SF-G Fan Replacement

I just got my st45sf-G (for my Ncase M1 build) and it is even louder than I expected. I am coming from a 160W fanless Pico psu so in comparison this thing sounds like I am at a Server Farm, lol. Does the noiseblocker fan mod really make that much of a difference? I am just not sure if any...

MSI Gaming series ITX components announced

I think it really depends. When I built my first mini-ITX system it definitely cost more to build a simple ITX pc then to do the same with micro-ATX. There were very few ITX cases and mobos and aftermarket CPU coolers available and they were more expensive than the "standard" stuff available...

Well, since no one else has jumped in yet. I don't have the case yet but I have been spending way too much time thinking about and planning my build lately, lol. The Antec is a nice PSU but I see that being a problem with all your other choices. Besides the cable management appearing to be...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Ha ha, yeah, overall wattage doesn't mean much especially since there are a lot of crappy psus that over rate so much. Sorry about the mistake about the pcie connectors. Yes, if it needs 1 8 pin that will work. I would say that PSU should work. 12v2 * 16A =192VA >170W but you are cutting it...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

No. Won't work. A GTX 760 recommends a good 500 watt supply as minimum and needs 2 6-pin pcie direct connections and recommends 30Amp at 12V. The BeQuiet 350SFX only appears to have 1 PCIE 6 pin connector. And besides that it has 2 12v rails of 14v and 16v. The overall wattage isn't...

Lol, I don't even have my M1 yet and I completely agree with all of you. NCase M2 - Shrink it down, room for a good air CPU cooler, GPU and just couple of ssd's and 1 big slow moving quiet fan to cool the whole thing. :D

Ahh, I wasn't thinking non-US pricing and availability. When I bought the M! I convinced myself I wasn't going to spend a lot of money upgrading my Ivy Bridge build. Mini-ITX build for fashion design student 800$

I think a good looking case like the Fractal Node will make her happy. I doubt she will care whether the PSU is modular or not. You might want to consider this XFX PSU for $35.99 after code and rebate to save a few bucks to put toward the better case and better storage. Only 80+ Bronze but I...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Our cases are on the proverbial "slow boat from China". There will be no updates until they arrive in the US (or wherever)- if then - that is if one of the postal workers isn't too lazy to scan the packages into the system. Many of us still have a while to wait. I am going to wait 'til at...

Yes, USA - MA - but it just says Nov 7 - Taiwan sort facility. I am pretty sure the "early shipment list" is completely irrelevant at this point and that destination Country and whatever packages the Taiwan post office happened to grab and throw on a truck is the determining factor for delivery.

    Project:Laocoön - First NCase Build

I am really interested in your GPU cooling solution also - very cool (no pun intended :)) Are you going to run the fan using PWM off of the GPU fan controller? or just connect to 12v and set it to be always ON at a constant speed?
