I am super close to getting Mac Pro as a "gaming"/workstation machine. Granted, that's crazy amount of money for what gaming performance it provides but theres nothing out there in the world that matches the performance/size/build quality.
This case was the first thing that made me go...
I work on Mac OS X and I really don't understand the people that have the dock at the bottom. That's a waste! (unless you're 4:3, but no Mac user is...).
16:10 or 16:9 is really no difference. If you use vertical space saving settings both are great. Even on windows (Win7) -> move task bar to...
Personally, I don't care if it's 16:9 or 16:10; both are fine. I use OS X, my dock is on the right hand side (can't understand why people keep it at the bottom; waste of valuable vertical space!) and both aspect ratios provide lots of space!
With 16:9 I can put two terminal windows next to each...
Wow, this monitor has a hefty price tag! Seems great though. Either this, or Nec EA231WMi (which is much cheaper!).
570 gbp is kinda out of question...
Bloody hell, that's cheap. You guys on the other side of the The Big Pond sure have it nice. I guess standard conversion rate applies: 1 usd = 1 gbp ;-) Either way, October can't come soon enough!
I think that people from Europe and Asia would most certainly disagree. It might be hard to believe, but there are quite a lot of folks living here and US is not the only country in the world :P
burningrave101: I just ordered 2408WFP (I didn't go for 2209WA because I want to use it with PS3 and 2209WA doesn't scale picture by itself and neither does PS3; Xbox on the other hand, has a proper scaler).
Unfortunately here, on the Old Continent it costs a bit more; With 40% off you still...
Maybe because you can simply plug HDMI to DVI port?
The only reason why you would actually need HDMI is if the monitor had good built in speakers or could send the audio to some audio output port (some monitors do). But that's extra electronics that would increase the cost. Otherwise, there...
Why do you need 1080p? Neither Xbox nor PS3 deliver 1080p for games. Sure, there is one or 2 games that do, but they're so rare that I wouldn't bother to cater especially to them.
Xbox has a scaler so it can output nice 1680x1050 (with black bars on top and bottom), so why not get Dell 2209WA...
Hehe, I move a lot (study abroad) and I was checking that. The physical dimensions of the 23" monitor should be smaller than the maximum physical dimensions of the carry-in luggage allowed ;-) Other than security thinking you're a weirdo, I don't think it would be a problem.
Dymlos, thanks! It's just I can't get the Prad.de review out of my mind when they say the screen is really, really bright. And lots of people write that at factory settings (brightness 50) it is so blazingly bright that it can burn your eyes out ;-)
Guys! Can you comment on my brightness question! The sale at Dell lasts only until 15th so I'd be really grateful if you could give me some info before then!
Thanks!
Thanks for answer to my previous question. I've got one more:
Is A02 revision any better in terms of minimum brightness?
I've read that even on 0 the monitos is still quite bright. I often work in the dark/with light dimmed and if the monitor is too bright, my eyes get tired quickly...
I think the main complaint here is the price. I think we can all agree that Eizo makes great quality monitors (I used to have 17" Eizo few years back!). Sure, PVA has gamma shift, but which PVA doesn't?
So the question should rather be: are they worth their pricetag? If I had enough money to...
S2242 should be pretty nice. True, it's 22", but consider this: good 17" laptops have 1900x1200 resolution! And it looks and feels great! True, 24" is bigger than 22", no kidding ;-) but it has lower pixel density.
That said, as much as I'd like to have S2242W, I won't pay so much for it...
Isn't display port the thingy that Apple recently adopted? Their new screen has display port (I think) only (it has one connector, don't know hat it is), rendering it pretty much useless, since it's not possible to convert DVI to port.
If something, I'd rather have HDMI and headphone jack so I...
payside, I want a monitor to use with PS3 and Dell can't handle scaling properly. 16:9 gets stretched to 16:10. If it wasn't for that, I would have bought one long ago...
albovin, I've seen that; great review;
actually, 16:9 doesn't seem like a bad idea for my work. I do programming and my style is vim+terminal. with 16:10 I can nicely fit 2 terminals side by side, or terminal+pdf document, etc. with 16:9, even more so. it gives a nice balance width to height...
Thanks 10e; I'm still thinking about getting a PVA, with IPS being rare and expensive. I thought about Eizo S2242W, but there is not a single review in sight and price is rather high. 2408WFP looks good, especially on sale. I guess I'll give it a go and hope it won't burn my eyes ;-)
So is Dell 2408WFP a better choice? Does it have similar problems with shadow details or does it fare much better? It's now on sale, so it might be worth picking up.
The only thing I'm worried though is minimum brightness; I've read on Prad.de that 0 brightness is already too bright and I often...
TostyX, you mean calibration through graphic card drivers?
Is it not possible to adjust the settings on the monitor to get smaller black crush while using the screen with PS3?
The problem with Dell is that it simply can't handle 16:9 input. So for someone like me, who wants a monitor for work and PS3 (Xbox has a scaler unit...), Dell is simply unusable :-(
Seems they won't be coming to Europe just yet. Few stores that have them listed just pushed the delivery dates by 2 weeks or so. I'm fed up with waiting... Maybe I should grab this Dell 2009W that's on sale right now and switch to Samsung in few months...
Nooooooooo...
Europe was supposed to get them first! Not fair! :-)
Hehe... I'm gkad to see they're available (not a vapourware like P2370L). I'm set on getting one and as soon as they show up in old continent and I pick one up, I'll be posting some reviews.
consumer-PVA? The only monitor equipped with this panel is going to be standard gamut. And it's the only standard gamut PVA panel I've heard of.
(Samsung F2380, when it comes out in Europe/USA will use this panel)
Just noticed 2 new monitors that I haven't heard about earlier: Samsung P2350/P2350N. Can't really say what the difference is, P2350N doesn't seem to have DVI (wth?); at least it's not listed under detailed specification... However, somehow it still manages HDCP (huh?).
Anyway, here's the...
T400 is pretty outdated. It sells for less, but that's on sale with some coupons, etc. "Regular" price should be similar; but of course no one pays regular price due to everlasting sale...
That said, T400s looks sweeeeet. Just the graphics though. I'd like some decent Radeon there...
