Unkle Vito, would you list what equipment you use to perform a full calibration and adjustment of one of these monitors? It'd be really interesting to know what you use.
On a side note, is your work limited to CRTs, or does it extend to all display types? I have recently invested in an IBM...
This is my picture. The layout could very well be wrong, I was using it to illustrate a question. I have had the same problem, and was asking if this was the correct layout or not, but no-one ever told me. I never did get the damn connection working.
Can anyone recommend me some good monitors for around £200?
It should be 16:10 1920x1200, and preferably 22-24". Colour accuracy is more important than other features.
The U2412M looks great, but it's just that bit too expensive.
All help is appreciated!
From what I've read in this thread, I wouldn't say that. The cost is certainly a factor, but lots of the people in this thread are gamers. The 2490 can't match the FW900 in refresh rate. Then there's the input lag too.
It also still can't match the black levels of the FW900 - even if it is good.
Can someone please help me get WinDAS working? I'm running WinDAS in XP mode under Win7. I'm having the same problems I had when I first tried using WinDAS.
I attach this cable (http://techref.massmind.org/techref/io/serial/rlc2.htm) as shown
I choose the model in WinDAS. I configure...
Reading through this thread I can't find any definitive method for getting this monitor working properly with an NVidia graphics cards in Win7.
Someone posted some hacked 64bit drivers a while back. But the link has expired so that is now no good.
Using the NVidia control panel I can only...
This monitor was also sold by SGI with the model number GDM-FW9011 (I have this one). And I believe Sun Microsystems also sold them, but I do not know the model number.
My FW900 has this too. I know other people have it as well, but I'm not sure if everyone does. I don't believe you can get rid of it, but you don't notice it most of the time.
Can anyone shed any light as to why this is here?
Thanks a lot!
On another note, I found out recently that if you bought one of the SGI brand monitors and experienced problems, SGI wouldn't even attempt to fix it but simply replaced them. Seems rather odd to me. Does anyone have any views on this?
I sent you a private message with my email address in, but I have not received any email with the pictures.
Did you not receive my email address? Or is it a problem at my end? Would you like me to PM it to you again?
Thanks
Seconded. It is easy to tell the difference between 85Hz and 100Hz. It stands out in gaming - 85Hz will seem much choppier. But you don't even have to game to notice the difference. You can see how much smoother 100Hz is than 85Hz just by moving the cursor around the screen.
I just tried restarting with it all connected, but sadly it made no difference.
I have access to another computer with an RS232 port on the motherboard though. I'll try that one as well. If that doesn't work, I guess I'll switch the pins on the cable round and see if that makes a difference...
I'm not sure, but I can only presume I'm incorrectly connecting the cable to the monitor, or I am setting up the software incorrectly.
I have tried using two different computers serial ports so the serial port isn't the problem.
I've tried connecting the cable to the monitor as shown, with...
Bump!
Seriously, any help here? Am I connecting this correctly? No matter what I do, when I try to connect via WinDAS it pops up an error saying:
Can't connect the Monitor!
Check Bus line and connection!
What am I doing wrong?
Just to check I'm doing everything right.
I need to short these two pins correct?
And I attach the cable to the pins as shown in this picture?
This is the cable I bought http://techref.massmind.org/techref/io/serial/rlc2.htm
When I connect the WinDAS cable to the monitor. The monitor goes blank. Is this supposed to happen?
Presumably not as it means I can't perform dynamic convergence etc.
Perhaps I'm not attaching the cable correctly. It's not exactly easy to connect. It's the RTS and CTS lines that aren't to be...
Thanks Vito. I shall make sure to save the EEPROM first. :)
With respect to the Sencore calibration devices, I think they are way out of the price range for most people here - they certainly are for me :p. Very interesting information though. Thank you again!
Mine only has true blacks when I set the brightness to almost 0. Which would be OK, but having the value this low means the majority of the blacks on this page http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/black.php are indistinguishable, even with the contrast set to 100. :(
Having the brightness this low...
I've heard the DTP-94 with Color Eyes Display Pro is really good. I mean to buy one at some point.

Scratches in the AR coating are often invisible when the screen is on. It is only when certain things are being displayed that they show up. I have a couple relatively long scratches on my AR coating, but I honestly struggle to find them most of the time.
Besides if you really find them...
