I'm looking to upgrade my 3 year old 65W TDP Intel i5 3400 to the latest skylake Intel Core i5-6400T (35W TDP).
Any feedback on implementing this new CPU on a home NAS? Any better lower TDP/power options? My freeNAS is mostly idle all the time except at night when I stream some movies to the...
I own a public /24 IP block "internet accessible" not part of the 172.16.0.0 x or any other local LAN.
Yes I don't want to use packet filtering at all on these hosts.
No, my newer switch (gigabit) supports Layer 2 only. Does no routing. Therefore I need something to route my VLAN's /29s
Dell Powerconnect 5448 is my switch FYI - support no ip routing.
HI guys,
I have a problem, need to replace my current layer 3 switch with vlans with pfsense. The good thing about it is that I will be able to create policies for security. There is a guide for transparent filtering here...

I just migrated from my ubuntu FUSE zfs to Gea's NexentaCore + napp-it
I backed up my filesystem on a spare 2tb external, but just FYI there is a bug when IMPORTING zfs pools. It will not create a symlink under /nameofpool -- so you cannot benchmark using napp-it.
To ensure a troubleless...
Hi guys
I setup my all in one and I am in the process of setting up napp-it with NexentaCore - I installed NexentaCore but it did not bring up the network via DHCP.

Thanks
I am pretty sure it has crossed your mind, you usually buy items from Tigerdirect (not in california) and save plenty of money if you are spending $100's. CA sales tax is close to 10%

In an unrelated question, how has your performance been with ZFS and 4k drives? I heard that 4k drives are slower than old drives. Thoughts?
Hi guys

Thank you for your quick and detailed response.
I've tried NexentaStor and OpenIndiana (had tried OpenSolaris too). My motherboard (Biostar TPower I45 ) or the video card (PCI-E ATI Radeon 3800 series) seems to act very very funky with both on live-cd (slow graphics and load times for OS)...
