If you have 3 HDDs to use, the only reason I can think of to deter one from throwing a RAID0 array together (For a new install on the O/S drive) is:
- None of them are identical enough so it won't work (Or would at least degrade the speed of the fastest drive)
- I don't have a backup disk...
If you're spazzing out on how to use RAID (I did), take a pill (I do) and work out what you can do with what hardware you've already got then try it. Unless you actually prove that YOU can recover data when a data-protective raid array fails, it won't help your sanity. You need to actually build...
Today Farcry2 arrived so I decided to settle on my current CPU OC:
E7300 2.66 @330x10 for 3.3GHz
! And my first ever over-volt ! @1.248V(cpuz)
Kewl... Now I can start testing Gfx in FarCry2 and assess the need for graphics OC
Here's a thing re: filters being too restrictive for any given intake fan...
- Make the fan suck through a number of filters arranged in parallel, dividing the load between the filters, making less effective load on the fan. I think.... 4 filters quarters the load.
Or get a ruddy great...
Truly sorry for the ridiculous bump but I'd like to know if this topic has come on at all in the last two years...
My old Fave was the sidewinder 3dpro, followed by the later sw3dpro with a bigger head. Then I moved to a Saitek Cyborg Evo. I've had my Evo for years and modded it a bit -...
hA hA! Makes the greatest of sense. Speedfan voltage name renamed "Vdimm"
EDIT:
@3.3GHz Vcore set in bios to 1.25 resulting in 1.184-1.2 in cpu-z and 1.25 shown in bios. 3.2GHz crashed it before.
13 hours of prime 95 small fft.
temps seemed stable at 40/44c but went to 45/50c later in test...
Ha Ha - Many thanks - No longer scared of raising my VCore from stock 1.12 (cpu-z)
Another thing tho:
- Speedfan shows Vcore1: 1.12 and Vcore2: 1.86
- Everest shows the 1.12 on VCore where I'd expect it but has the 1.86V figure under "+2.5V"... I've never heard of a +2.5V rail in a PC...
Well mate, cut a couple more holes in the side of the thing and zip-tie a couple more fans on...
But I'd cut a hole in anything me...
My PC is screwed to a piece of plywood on the wall....
EDIT:
Please don't cut holes in your CM Sniper
Great mod ;)
How much gap was there between ram chips and heat sink contact area compared to gap between gpu and sink? I ask because the ram sink tape was so thick on my g80 8800gts I think I'd have trouble refitting it if I wanted to - Don't think thermal grease has gap-filling properties...
I've had little luck finding what voltages ppl run OC'd cpus at... Mainly I think because googling "cpu@x.xxV" isn't gonna work. CPU-z doesn't show voltages in their user uploaded validations - because of the number of complaints they'd get from ppl blowing their CPUs?
Anyone know where I can...
Self imposed drunkenness curfew requires I don't post anymore tonight but...
I just looked up "HAF 932" (And 922 - Can't see dust-screens but can barely see kbd, lol) and I've not seen a more airflow oriented case! Random application of foam secured with cable-ties just won't do it... But I'd...
I asked for it - you trashed me.
It works and is completely reversible (Dell PC still on warranty)
I have a coolermaster realpower 700W for my rig - but it's screwed to a piece of plywood so I can hack and slash wherever I like... For Bro's machine I had to think differently
EDIT: And another...
Hi, Sry for trashing you a bit :(@me... Off topic - Do you know how I can get an audio alert when I get an answer to a post? This is the first forum I'm really *bothered* about being part of and I'd like to stay on the ball. I have email notifications on but it's not "Quick". Raci.
Raap - MyBad - If you've done it, you've done it, I have not. I'd just hope the OP tries a few basics that weren't mentioned B4 ripping up a gx2, lol. Esp since my default fan speed was so craply low - I'm surprised at nvidia not making fan speed a whole lot more clever and *obvious* to the...
Well trash me if you like but I got a *booster* for my little Bro to run his new 8800gt in a dell case and he's very happy with it... Never makes a noise apart from on startup. Cheap and easy too. Future proof too. Looks nice too. Did I say cheap and easy?
Now I'm a noob here but pulling the heatsinks *on a gx2* doesn't sound like fun to me. And thermal paste might not fully fill the gap between heatsink and ram chips - even if it's fine for the gpu. My 8800 has such THICK thermal pads for the ram chips I'd have no chance replacing them w/o layers...
I have a Scythe Kamameter - Choice of SIX display colours (Inc red, doh) and comes with black, off-white and ?silver? bezels.
4 temps (Includes sensors on 400mm+ wires
4-way fan control (Could split to eight but I assume voltage/speed would halve but that's not a bad thing for noise)
Volume...
I'm gonna use the filter material they use in car spray-booths. I need to cut a panel to cover the inlet end of my custom case - I hope to get maximum filter area by making it bulge out away from the inlet like they do on car air filters.
Until I read BlueFireIce say 20-30ppi... I've no idea...
HaHa! I think we're decided then:
according to gpureview, the 8800gt loses a tiny bit of pixel-fill against the 9600gt but whips it on texture fill. They're not the same core though so I'm not taking that as a true performance indicator but it's a guide.
the 8800gt beats the radeon 38xx...
Thanks to both of you :)
That card looks pretty likely and I'm expecting it out-benches 7900s by a lot!
Have to check its actual dimensions against my measurements of inside Bro's case tho - Does anyone have measurements for how far down the card the cooler extends? If it goes too far...
The 4850's look like a much better card than 7900 - must check some benchmarks
The new ones on ebay UK go a little over budget and look to have a double-slot I/O plate - can easily chop that apart tho.
I'm about to buy this card to upgrade my brother's (Dell) PC:

- Space is a problem - Tried my 8800gts, doesn't fit in SO many ways... Need single-depth card unless we get a different...
Xigmatek HDT-S1283 - Excellent - found one cheap enough... Backplate not so easy but will get one.
(Brit)
Edit - got a Xigmatek 1283 cooler - looks like it'll fit whichever way round I mount it - and it was cheap - Thx :) Still better get/make a plate for it.
Can anyone tell me for sure of a CPU cooler that won't foul the existing heatpipe gear and won't fou'l a Gfx card in 1st PCIeX16 slot... on a p5n32?
When it's fitted 90Deg from standard (With airflow going from left to right if that helps)?
(And where can I buy a p5n32 stock...
Thx for reply :) A few ppl I know have said the plus is better one way or the other - mainly because of the caps... I don't think I'll be impacted by the 650/680 thing but dunno for sure 'til I research it which I'll do now.
(Lol - I play ghost recon, not Cryisis :) )
I got an Asus p5n32, test-fitted the processor/fan (e7300 with stock cooler) and when I had a close look at it, the cooler on some components at the top of the board weren't in contact with their heatsink:
Anyone else ever seen this kind of thing?
seller replaced it and the new one...

I've searched and read a bit on this problem and it still exists for me... My new mobo was to be a p5n32-e sli... but the one I got from OcUK was bent - DOUBLE bent!
