eh, was gonna post, but really not worth it to battle words on the internet when obviously this thread is not made to enlighten or help any situation that has arisen.
(by post i mean: respond to the original poster)
Seriously. I think those that have a preference of red or green will scrutinize the others offerings with a finer comb than they would with their "preference" card.
What I mean is a green hat would put up with the quirks of a green card and the drivers that come with. It more so than a...
At 1280x1024 cpu will. bottle neck ya. 1600x1200 not so much depending on the game engine. For me I run out of vc memory on my 512 at certain settings on crysis. So get something along the lines of 4800 series / 9800 gtx series with 800Mb-1Gb of memory for when you need it on 1600x1200. -...
As far a I know, those are all readings on the chip itself. My gpu z shows memio, which tells me that's the input and output of memory traffic for the chip (I could be wrong)
gogogadget gtx 260 for single card goodness. when it all boils down when you want to get dual, sell it get your duals. i say this for the price its really hard to argue.
that the first with native multicore support no? i know you can force it in others but at the price of constant crashing. hopefully they make multithread backwards compatible from left4dead on back to half life and the such would be cool... but source has much more not multi threaded then it...
if im not mistaken in source games, the main thing you need is processor clock speed since source does not take advantage of dual and quads well so mostly single threaded in the source engine.
you going by "seat of the pants feel" ? i have noticed increases in performance of the drivers saying there is no difference in them is not valid in my opinion. I say this by looking at numbers that go along with the "feel".

how does one add pics to a post? upload to photobucket or something?
and benching ain't as easy as i thought, kids keep running in and such... makes me die, then i have to start over.
hmmm, i'd really like to see this framerate dip and i am by no means some super intelligent bench tester. But if there was a way i can bench to see these dips for myself i'd love to open my eyes to it this is a problem i have not experienced. i do have fraps and it has a little benchmarking...
nice little read, be cool to see some graphs so i can see those fps dips on your system. Glad you are enjoying your card because at the end of the day thats what its all about.
edit: wasnt there some driver issues (or am i thinking of another game my mind says something recent because i have...
negative my friend, i only has the single 4850. i think the accelro is crossfirable... but im not too sure. i do not have first hand experience with any of the mentioned coolers in crossfire configs
oh, sorry if i wasnt clear. in my post i wasnt saying expect those results, but i was merely showing they do work in crossfire and he used aftermarket fans which are taller than stock.
and with all aftermarket solution ymmv but i merely was sharing it since i had good results with it as well...
if your talking rebate territory, 4850's can be had for the 130's after rebate. But i think the original poster should just get whichever is cheaper as they both would be suitable for his res.
i been using ati tray tools by ray adams over there at guru3d

i have a overclock profile for when i use 3d apps, and a 2d profile for all my other stuff.
this is a post that made me consider the gfx chilla
http://www.overclock.net/ati-cooling/392955-coolink-gfxchilla-4850-cf-review.html
i got mine from nicx.com , but i am sure the twin turbo would do you nicely as well not sure how it does with crossfire
crysis is the most gpu heavy game that i run, supreme commander never consistently loads gpu at 100% so temps weren't that bad. i too used to experience shutdowns unless i ramped the fan high. me thinks it had something to do with vrm cooling. aftermarket cooling should fix your problem with...
how does 4850 struggle in crysis, i have been looking for numbers to compare at 1680 x 1050 resolutions to see its limitations. I haven't been struggling at that res but i dont have nothing to compare that too.
im currently at 1.38 volts gets me to 800 comfortably well, 820 core Mhz but thats aftermarket cooling. i say go for the aftermarket cooling if not for more peace of mind your temps will be lower which is welcome in my book.
if im not mistaken 4870's run at or near 1.4 to achieve 800+ Mhz...
i recall 1.3'ish i didnt write down initially my volts, i just cross checked alot with different sites results and it got me to 750 stable provided i ramp the single slot cooling 80-100 percent.
i bricked my 4850 initially but i had a spare card so i could still force flash it. there are very helpful guides out there on what to do if that hapens. i never messed with vid cards so much this go round, but i learned alot.
