As others have said, that is not normal. The two BIOS positions on the 290 aren't supposed to have any kind of functional difference, just one is write protected while the other isn't. If this is a card you picked up second hand I'd say that someone tried to flash the BIOS but made some kind...
Hopefully the addition of Japamd, the creator of RadeonPro, will spur them to expand the tweaking ability of the tool. I like the idea behind it, but the execution still seems to be lacking.
It does when you use the 40% fan cap. Different bins have different voltages (anywhere from 1.11v to 1.17v), and with such a low fan speed the higher voltage binned chips will have to throttle more. If the "Uber" BIOS is used the fan is allowed to spin fast enough that even with different...
Then what does the Aux actually control? AMD has implied that the IR controller is functionally similar to the CHiL used on previous designs so it doesn't make a lot of sense that they'd remove memory voltage and use it for another part of the chip without documenting it.
You can still be CPU limited even though no core is maxed out. Windows will throw threads around so that no core will be completely maxed out, but even spread out that/those thread(s) can only perform so much and games only create a few. AMD's drivers also seem to have a fairly large CPU...

They passed the WHQL testing, but are for the 290(X) cards only. They're also missing all the performance tweaks of the 9.x betas.
Don't pay attention to the GPU usage as it doesn't really reflect what is happening due to issue with AMD's driver. It will always look like it's throttling no matter what fan/powertune/clockspeed settings you're using. The best way to see if the GPU is being pushed is to watch clockspeeds, as...
I'm another that has no Overdrive tab with these drivers. I think you can get it back to proper by completely uninstalling the drivers, booting in safe mode, and running DDU before reinstalling. But as I use Afterburner for my overclocking I haven't spent the time to try it for myself.
Just to point it out, HDR means High Dynamic Range, no high definition rendering. It improves the contrast between dark scenes and bright lighting, and as such games can still look extremely good without it.
Most likely the game sees the Nvidia driver but doesn't know it's not the rendering card so it's allowing you to select TXAA, My guess is that if you tried to use it, you'd either got the base MSAA or no AA at all as TXAA has certain hardware requirements that only Kepler has.
It's most likely that some of the initial 290s were actually 290Xs that were castrated at the BIOS level to meet the initial demand ($400 cards sell a lot better than $550 cards) while later chip shipments were meant to be only 290s from the start and are laser cut. Those who received the ones...
Games need to be coded with this in mind for it to be taken advantage of. It's possible that updates could add this functionality, but that's probably game engine dependent.

1. The only difference in the BIOS in fan speed cap, and that the quiet is write protected. I don't see how it would matter for software voltage control.
2. And as for what 100mV will get you, it depends on your stock voltage. Different chips come with different voltage, like mine is at...
Make sure you go into the options and check the box allowing voltage monitoring and control. Even though I had them checked in the last beta, I had to check them again and restart the program. As long as you're using the original BIOS you should be good, but know that you're limited to a...

Link to the newest Afterburner beta with voltage control for reference Hawaii cards.
It's not locked, it's just that they use a new voltage controller that almost no software can work with yet. A new Afterburner beta should be out in a few days that will work with reference designs.
A new beta for Afterburner with full control of the new voltage controller should be out in the next few days. Unwinder has submitted it to MSI so it's all on them now.
Under the option menu, near the top there is a setting that says "Synchronize settings for similar graphics processors" that is checked by default. Try unchecking it and then restarting the program to see if it then lets you customize each card individually.
I hope it's something this simple. There is still no update on when a new Afterburner with support for AMD's new voltage controller will be released, but you can tweak core voltage with some command line augments.

Can some of you who are having this issue check something for me? Open up Gpu-Z and go to the sensor tab and report VDDCI voltage. This is for the memory and I have a suspicion that AMD set this too low. My 290 is only running at 1.0v, compared to 1.6v for my 7970 and reviewer sample Hawaii...
Are you using Afterburner? I saw a post over on Guru3D where someone said that he was having that issue with it running, but when he disabled it everything was fine.
Until you make one of those boneheaded mistakes that kills your nice, new expensive hardware. I still have nightmares about cracking the core on my old AMD K7 processor.
That SSD uses a Sandforce controller which is designed to compress files to speed up transfers and limit write amplification. AS-SSD uses uncompressed data while ATTO uses easily compressible data which is why you see the large difference. Both scores look fairly normal for the data types...
Yes, it's technically possible, but requires a lot of work to the memory controller that AMD and Nvidia would rather avoid having to do. It's hard enough for them to ramp the speed up as it is and adding more complexity would be counter-intuitive.
20nm and 22nm are just labels. The actual size of the transistors will vary and for the most part not be what you'd expect. Kind of like Intel's 45nm and TSMC's 40nm offering nearly identical density despite the theoretical 5nm difference.
While Microsoft may stop updating DirectX, there's no way they'll stop updating Direct3D. They'll still be adding new graphical features that require new hardware.
Make Afterburner show real voltage
Show real voltage in Afterburner for 7970s.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to hide)With Afterburner closed, open your Afterburner install directory, traverse to profiles. There will be a config file for each card or cards inside. If you have more files than cards...
It would depend on if they self-publish or partner with someone like Activison or Ubisoft. The first would mean we could possibly see something like the old Bioware but the latter would probably be no different than today.
This is perfect as I'm going through classic Star Wars games currently. Just stated Jedi Outcast and will then move onto Jedi Academy before heading into KOTOR 1&2.
For those who are wanting to replay KOTOR on a widescreen, here's links to WSGF to get everything working correctly...
Just a heads up, Seagate doesn't use the Acronis branding. They call it DiscWizard.

If you have a Western Digital or Seagate drive, you can get Acronis for free on their respective sites. I've been using it for a couple of years now without any issue.
