My question is such a large heat sink even needed? Wouldn't the small contact area of the die on the heat sink make most of that contact surface useless? Or would it really dissipate heat that well as to make it worthwhile? I hope that makes sense.

Actually it was proven, wire coat hangers work just as well as $100 monster cable wires..was in the tech sites a while back. Anyone who buys monster cable products needs slapped.

Also, if the room is saturated with lots of natural light (i.e many windows) a plasma will tend to look washed out (IMHO).
