I think my Q6600 is running slow..

My Q6600 is running at stock speeds with the following... cpu: 43 core1: 30 core2: 32 core3: 25 core4: 27 and that is @ idle, using a zalman cooler. I would definately look into getting a better cooling situation for sure. Those temps may be "OK" but they aren't what you want for sure!

    PSU or Mobo

Try updating the BIOS to the latest version from asus's website (you'll need another pc to download it obviously). Also try and run memtest on the RAM.

Its either the motherboard or the memory. Your best bet is to a) Like meamoldman said buy a new PS and test with that. Either way its good to have a spare. b) Buy new RAM and test with that If the RAM is bad you just bought your replacement, if its not the RAM just return it. c) If...

Thinking of an upgrade - advice?

I take it you have the G80 GTS, not hte G92? I'd see about going to the 9800GTX if your considering an upgrade, though I can't argue that the 8800GT is a great performer!

Do it man! I'm about to do the same. Look at the benchmarks and tests... you won't regret it!

    Issue with assassin creed

Took the clock speed (just to be "safe") and the memory speed down 25 and 50mhz respectively, still same issue. I think its safe to say assassins creed needs a patch and bad!

What do you think of these parts for an upgrade?

Well if your on a budget thats not too bad at all. You said yourself your not worried about O/Cing. With what you listed it should be nice and stable. Your PS should be fine, if you find its not sufficient (shouldn't be the case). It's easily replacable.

    Issue with assassin creed

Specs are in my sig below... running vista ultimate x64 I started out with the 174.93 drivers. Got about 20 mins into the game and it would crash nvlkddm.dll (i think thats it) and blue screen. Tried the 174.74 and had the same issue. I'm not back to 169.25 and I thought that fixed it...

    Vista 64 Ultimate + EVGA 8800GT = problems?

I also have the EVGA 8800GT (KO). 2 of em actually. Running Vista x64 on a EVGA 780i. Previsously on a Abit 680i. Neither one had issues, multiple drivers. You can try a clean install, update all mobo drivers then the video driver. If you still have issues then its definatley hardware.
