    current best air coolers

Yeah that’s why I suggested watching package power. Given all the Intel instability issues though with more aggressive board presets, if you’re happy just leave it.

    Curve Optimizer and 5800x3d

Are you sure you're setting up PBO in the correct place? If you're in the AI Overclocking tab or whatever they call it, the PBO section there literally doesn't do anything. Advanced > Scroll down to AMD Overclocking then set it up in there. This is a classic Asus thing. Two PBO sections, one...

What least expensive 34 UW OLED to get?

I was in this predicament with a similarly old Asus PG348Q back in Jan 2023(original ultrawide, 3440x1440, 100Hz). I did not want another 3440x1440 display but I did want OLED. At that point, I realized that was the largest res they were going to be doing for a while so I decided to just get...

Can i smoke in the same room where is pc?

I feel like pictures and examples of PC's that were smoked around are quite commonplace. It should be extremely obvious that if you're going to do this, you need to be VERY diligent about regular cleaning. You'll never escape it entirely though.

    Sound card vs. USB DAC

That's the wild-tier level of audiophiles that I'll just never be down with. There is no way in hell i'm going to tell the difference. Everybodies got to have a hobby, I guess. Just don't be the fool in the old saying "a fool and his money are soon parted".

    Sound card vs. USB DAC

I'm done with Schiit. My Magni and Modi are both falling apart and I quite literally never touch them. Except I have to now more and more to fiddle with connectors and knobs just to get them to operate. The Modi just likes to disappear from Windows from time to time. Reseating the USB cable...

    New router for 2.5g

I moved this weekend and had an appointment with Verizon to move my FiOS connection yesterday. I've had the standard Gigabit so I kept that, but was surprised the router they brought out supports up to 10Gb on the WAN port and one of the LAN ports. The other two LAN ports up to 2.5Gb. The...

Some Intel CPUs lost 9% of their performance almost overnight

This story has been coming to this point for months now. When this first kicked off a couple of months ago with reports of instability it was said it likely has something to do with outrageous motherboard presets so its no surprise that this is where we'd end up, board vendors simply having to...

    Sound card vs. USB DAC

The Sys itself isn’t actually a preamp at all looking at it (while the others are) but essentially just a fancy potentiometer. Still, it’s going to do the job in this case.
  11. C

    Sound card vs. USB DAC

No. But I mean it sounds like you're spending over $100 on a USB cable elsewhere (crazy..) so maybe just make sure you're using good RCA cables.
  12. C

    Sound card vs. USB DAC

In that case then yes, a basic device like the Sys is the way to go.

    Sound card vs. USB DAC

A soundcard a full solution, meaning a DAC and pre-amp (along with A soundcard is a full solution including pre-amps, sometimes amps, etc.. A DAC part of a soundcard and it has just one job, converting digital audio to analog. Now, with a USB DAC at least on Windows you can still do volume...

    Sound card vs. USB DAC

Its a DAC, I wouldn't expect it to have volume control, right? That is something your amp/pre-amp would control.

    Sammy 990 Evo - Crucial T500 - WD SN 770 for a game drive

Ha, yeah I wasn't suggesting actually doing that, just commenting on the issues you have with the HDD.

    Sammy 990 Evo - Crucial T500 - WD SN 770 for a game drive

Heck a nice SATA drive would do that. 👍 HDDs are just problematic these days for anything but bulk storage.

    Sammy 990 Evo - Crucial T500 - WD SN 770 for a game drive

For sure, and when HMB didn’t exist it was crucial. Today, HMB as part of NVMe makes it all but irrelevant for all but the most extreme workstation users.

    Sammy 990 Evo - Crucial T500 - WD SN 770 for a game drive

Fair enough. I’m a firm believer that if it doesn’t matter it’s not a better option, especially if it costs extra, however.
  19. C

    Sammy 990 Evo - Crucial T500 - WD SN 770 for a game drive

Why are we still advocating spending more for DRAM on modern HMB enabled NVMe drives for basic use/gaming systems? I thought we left that mentality back with SATA.

    Hardware Unboxed Giant B650 Roundup

If you bought a solid one to start I don't see why not at this rate. I plan to grab Zen5 and whatever comes after on AM5 (if anything), I see no reason why my Taichi won't be just fine.

    $2,500 RTX-5090 ( 60% faster than 4090 )

It got a price decrease. Unless you're comparing it to 3080 which you can't, that's an entirely different GPU. Might as well be comparing it to an RX580 at that point, same difference. I don't subscribe to this idea of linking "classes" of cards from previous generations, it doesn't make any...

    $2,500 RTX-5090 ( 60% faster than 4090 )

I'm just grabbing things to make an example, but I agree. Though, you don't have to upgrade annually, that's just a choice thing, you could do that with anything even the examples I listed. Trust me, there are nutty people in every hobby that "upgrade" more often than they need to. If its...

    RZ608 Wi-Fi module keeps crashing

That AMD branded MediaTek wifi module has always been suspect. There are some boards that shipped with them around launch but then had revisions where the only thing that changed was the Wifi module to a known good Intel AX2xx or Broadcom unit.

    $2,500 RTX-5090 ( 60% faster than 4090 )

This whole idea is missing a ton of perspective, I think. To some, high end PC gaming desktop hardware is a hobby, nothing more. Spending $1000-$2000 on a new "thing" for your hobby every few years isn't that unheard of if it makes you happy. Take a step back and look at hobbies in general...

Need 16x-8x configuration at same time. Are there any consumer boards?

No, but it depends on how you're accomplishing that. The X670E Taichi doesn't have DP input to passthrough video over USB4/TB so you'd have to rely on just telling Windows to use the XTX for rendering but outputting video via the iGPU. Some boards do have DP inputs to purely passthrough the...

Need 16x-8x configuration at same time. Are there any consumer boards?

I highly doubt it, you'd likely need switches and/or re-drivers to do something like that. Frankly, i've wanted the ability to say, for example, instead of offering x8 lanes of Gen5 on a fullsize x16 slot, have it still wired for x16 lanes and if you simply run it in Gen4 mode, you get all x16...

Need 16x-8x configuration at same time. Are there any consumer boards?

Correct. My board, for example. I find block diagrams the best way to visualize this kind of thing. A lot of boards just come down to how certain I/O decisions are made. Do I think i'm really going to make use of USB4? So far, I haven't. Though being able to run a display off the iGPU directly...

What is up with PSUs manufacturers now? 100 models with almost zero differences

80+ rating and listed wattage isn't all that makes a PSU. PSUCultist rating plus lots of details about many models can be found here: https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/ I much prefer their backend spreadsheet, however: ( I don't know how to prevent it from embedding other than...

Long Boot Time for AM5 Normal?

Yeah, I've had my AM5 system since the first week they were available and TBH, I don't even think about it anymore. I rarely fully reboot at this point and TBH 30 second or so isn't the end of the world. Some of the AM5 OG's will remember Sleep mode being completely disabled on all AM5 systems...

Questions & Confusion Over Some PC Gaming Controllers / Gamepads

Worked fine on my SN30 Pro+ in Windows, as well as my Ultimate Wireless (but with that I use the 2.4Ghz dongle in the dock) No, the 2.4Ghz only models cannot do this. A BT radio does not exist. The model with BT and motion sensing built in is marketed towards Switch gamers, however when...

    Best CPU upgrade options?

Buying a 7800x3D doesn't automatically mean you have to upgrade, unless i'm misunderstanding your point. The Microcenter deal is just too good to pass up and that's at its high. It was $470 or so a few weeks back. A good A-tier 850W is plenty with a 4070Ti, only a 285W card.

    Best CPU upgrade options?

This was my 7900x under an AK620. Stock it was in the 28k range. With some tweaking it was over 30k. All while maintaining a steady 60% PWM peak so it was pretty damn quiet. Was able to maintain the performance when moving to Assassin IV entirely because it looked cool. 7800x3D now.. childs...

    Best CPU upgrade options?

I don't really agree. My old 7900x was scoring over 30k in Cinebench R23 under an AK620 (211W peak) and my now 7800x3D seems like it can be cooled with a stiff breeze. AK620 and now Assassin IV it doesn't break 82c after looping Cinebench for a few minutes.
