VA without contrast shift, no modern panels like Samsung 213T

I need Colorcomp, otherwise there is a slight green shift at the left side. To clarify, I'm fairly content with the NEC, it's not bad at all. I just wish it was possible to get a panel with the 213T's quality and modern electronics. I think it's strange that this VA panel technology was...

VA without contrast shift, no modern panels like Samsung 213T

Well, black levels of the old display are certainly better. Contrast can be much lower than the specified value on color managed displays when setting them to accurate colors. I am using the sRGB preset and ColorComp at setting 4 of 5. And of it doesn't have an A-TW polarizer. I might take...

VA without contrast shift, no modern panels like Samsung 213T

I switched from a Samsung 213T, produced 10/2003, to a new NEC PA241W. Colors are way better of course, contrast is lower though, and I had to fix backlight bleeding on the upper left by inserting some pieces of cardboard between the panel and its metal case (worked fine). Also I am seeing some...

    LG L246W

That's a Windows problem. With Nvidia cards, you need to kill some display manager thing and it will work with any cheapo mechanical switch (like the one I use). For people with banding probs.. recent versions of the screen do not run properly in sRGB mode. Use "user mode" and set contrast to...

Can't see much on that picture cause it's not in focus. But AFAIR that's a part of the stand's lift mechanism.

All I'm doing is adjusting the "luminance" slider down by one notch in SoftMCCS. RGB values are slightly tweaked because my screen is calibrated but it's nothing drastic and it doesn't matter in this case. Brightness adjusts the backlight and also doesn't matter. I have it at 25 I think...

    LG L246W

I guess it's usually not noticed because most people run the screen at native res. But if you use 1:1 on a lower res, it's noticeable that the "inactive" area of the screen (which is "real" black, digital 0) is clearly darker than the black of the active area. This difference made me realize...

    LG L246W

Ít's a design problem of the 245WP and of course won't be covered by warranty. We're on our own on this one. I'm using "User" mode (as I said, sRGB mode is unusable because it sets the white point to RGB to no more than 227), but the screen does not keep any settings. SoftMCCS does still...

    LG L246W

Overriding EDID doesn't do any good.. we don't want to ignore EDID, we want to update internal settings in the EEPROM. SoftMCCS can only update the main block, this doesn't help either. The message that the EEPROM is write protected is very bad news. I think to remove the write protection...

    New LG W2600HP 26" S-IPS

The major question is: can this screen be set to properly display sRGB or not. After having tried the Dell 2408 I will not buy another Wide Gamut screen without a working, calibratable sRGB-mode. I hate cartoon colors.

    Dell 2408 WFP Review

Some thoughts.. - The rainbow effect on the Dell is strong and it's not "splitting hair" to remark that. Contrary to what the article says, I saw it immediately and not after "deliberately looking for it", I think I'm actually the person who posted this info here first (at least I never read...

    LG L246W

Ok the Luminance setting is in the extended CEA EDID block of the monitor, and the setting to 63 does get "forgotten" every time it gets switched off or changes resolution. So we now have a monitor that displays a dark blue instead of black because of a wrong internal setting. The only program...

    LG L246W

Geez and then even a fullquote on these giant pics! WTF Also not everyone is using a local display, I'm working over a a remote NX connection and this freezes everything for 20 seconds. Great. About the digital brightness setting, it's obviously not the same as in the OSD.

    LG L246W

Strange, the sRGB setting definitely cuts off at RGB 227 at least for the model sold here in Germany. 2 others on Prad.de have reported the same for their new LG L245WP. Maybe LG thinks Europeans want digitally boosted contrast. :D Fortunately, the "User" Mode on this version (1.700) also...

    LG L246W

Actually, others are reporting the same (prad.de forum). Have people here checked with a gradient? One more thing: using SoftMCSS to set brightness (via DDC, not the OSD setting) from 64 to 63 improves black level and makes black identical to "no signal" (easy to check with a resolution <1920...

    LG L246W

Btw, do NOT use sRGB mode on this screen. It shoots up contrast to 100 which causes everything >RGB 227 to be white. The proper (1:1) setting is 80. This was probably different with the old 1.440 firmware.
  20. E

    LG L246W

Okay, maybe low brightness settings are not regulating the backlight but are also connected to the contrast setting. I'll check once I get home. edit: checked. You must be using the monitor through VGA? sRGB definitely kills the upper end of a grey gradient through DVI, at least on the current...

I have no problems with my 8800gts at 1920x1200, BUT: Hasn't anyone noticed the screen has extreme "white crush" over DVI?? Everything over RGB 227 is white, unbeliavable. Everything's fine through analog (VGA). Any ideas? It almost looks like the input is always using video levels (RGB 16 to...

A bad transceiver causes loss of signal and certain kinds of artifacts, but no banding or other subtle image degradation. Also, both of the ports of my 8800GTS manage to pass a 1080p60 signal over a cheapo 15m cable (27 EUR) so they can't be that bad. Either way, it has nothing to do with banding.

I don't think a "CRT die hard" will be content with any TFT <1000 EUR (maybe even 1500) for the near future. Not even I am, and I am coming from an older PVA-Panel that seems to have much better properties than current ones (213T).

I'd like to remark I also noticed a sharpness problem. Sharpness setting for an LCD is useless anyway, I want the unaltered image and no edge enhancement. I had the feeling the default setting is not quite neutral which bugged me a bit.

Wide gamut is useless for current HDTV and will throw color reproduction way off since it uses a colorspace equivalent to sRGB. Current deep color/xvYCC ready video displays and projectors have a preset for the normal colorspace (e.g. Panasonic AE2000 which I own). Unlike with monitors like...

It's not a defect but a property of this device. All of them have it. Personally I don't find it that distracting, but everyone is different (for me, the "rainbow effect", lag and the "untamable" wide gamut are much worse problems). p.s. if anyone wants to check for the rainbow effect, do it...

    NEC LCD2690

Well I don't want to calibrate the built-in sRGB mode, I just want to tone down the native mode to something that resembles sRGB. But it seems that it is not possible due to a limitation of the Spectraview software.

Your "information", haha you gotta be fscking kidding, troll. "Because it's liquid", right.. oh I hadn't thought about that. There are LCDs with very low lag and perfect colors (e.g. Sony broadcast studio monitors). You're just too poor to afford them.

    NEC LCD2690

Hm I really don't understand why it's not possible. My Panasonic AE2000 videoprojector does exactly that, offer a perfect D65 SRGB preset. I mean all that's needed is reducing saturation in a certain way resp. translating values to the lower gamut. I'm not a graphics designer but I see no...

You shouldn't worry about uniformity (it's very good) or performance in dark image areas (it's bad - this is especially disappointing since the old 213T panel does not have this problem at all). Neither about input lag, it's huge. Worry about the strange DLP-"rainbow effect"-like green/grey...

    NEC LCD2690

I want a new screen to replace my Samsung 213T and an old Eizo 20" CRT. I'll be mostly using it under GNU/Linux (=usually no color management) but will also do photo editing with XP & PS. I would get the 2490 if it was available here, but it's not. Is there an "easy" way to display at least...

Well, not exactly "same old". Really old PVA displays like my old 213T do NOT have the black crush / uniformity problem. Dell 2408 - quick review

Hi I'm from Germany and I got mine today (WFPb). Lag is almost always exactly 47 ms, sometimes ~32. No image settings nor different presets have any effect on this whatsoever. Picture is very nice, much better than the 215TW I have at work, and similar to the one from my old 213T (PVA without...
