    Overclocking & Throttling?

While you are actually trying overclocks it is best to have the speedstep off. However after you are done and have a "working system", you will save power/energy by turning it back on. Now having your's drop while under load is interesting. Normally while idle it drops, but once the...

problems with speedfan 4.33 and vista 64?

I have had no problems with speedfan and Vista 64. I'm running a Q6600 with 4 gigs memory. There is a "work around" for Vista64 and CoreTemp which is another popular temp program. I didn't feel like doing the workaround so I'm using Speedfan.

    Help me hit 3.6ghz on Q6600 G0

Well you got me jealous. Although for temp testing, the blend isn't the best choice. Go with small FFT's. Under blend I wander from low 50's to high 50's. So I'm still jealous of your temps :-)

    Overclocking Crashes?

You are also talking apples and oranges. Is it a video driver? A game problem? Or a vista/xp problem? We have no way of knowing with such limited informaiton. If you overclock your system, TEST it properly before using it. Run Prime95 for 8 plus hours and THEN you can eliminate the...

    Help me hit 3.6ghz on Q6600 G0

Your temps seem real low to me (unless you are using something other than air to cool). What temp program are you using to measure your temps? If you are using Speedfan, make sure you add 15 degrees or you are not reading the correct temp.... I'm at 3.2 on a Zalman CPU fan and I see temps...

    Need help overclocking

If I was you I would re-read the guide till you understand what you are trying to do. Would you ask somebody how to operate on your own body so you can "change" something? It's no different. It is not that hard to understand. Read it till you do. You need to understand the CONCEPT, then you...

    Balancing overclocks RAM vs. CPU

I actually lowered my RAM speed from 800(factory) to 712 so that I could match up my core speed (Q6600 356x9) to get the 1:1 ratio. This lower speed allowed me to lower my factory ram settings from 5-5-5-18-22 down to 4-4-4-10-22. I found that the tighter ram timings gave me faster benchmarks...

    Stability Question

The logic I use is it should not crash at all. So any crash, 1 minute or 5 hours is still a crash and means it is not stable. Others may give you different info, but it's a combo of FSB, multiplier, volts, and temps. You have to control these 4 things to get your core stable at a temp you are...

    Stability Question

Okay that's well within the normal range. But I would still leave the memory settings at AUTO (assuming your board has this) for now and only mess with one thing at a time.... Oh yeah, the statement "everything seems stable because the shutdown are random" seems to indicate that it isn't...

    Stability Question

Okay 3DMark does NOT test a system. You can use it to get results, but it is not really a test program. However if your system is real unstable, then it will fail during 3DMark. Your voltage seems high to me for 3.0Mhz. I have 1.250core volts for 3.2 Mhz, but I'm on the low end. I think...

    First Time OCing

If you read the sticky and all the online guides that are out there, then you would realize for overclocking you won't need any programs, you will set it from CMOS. Speed is calculated by multiplying the multiplier CPUM times the Front Side Bus speed (9x356 for 3.2 Mhz on my quadcore). If...

    HOWTO: Overclock C2D Quads and C2D Duals - A Guide v1.0

With stock voltage getting to 3.0 may not be easy. It varies from board to board. I've been lucky, I have a xfx 680i LT board and probably the same ram. I worked mine up to 3.2 with 1.250 volts, but I am the unusual one. This is stable with 17 hours of Prime95 running. I would leave the...

My First Overclock. Went ok I think.

I seem to be one of the lucky ones, but I'm running 3.2 (1424 FSB x9 multiplier) at 1.250 volts. My temps are just under 40 at idle (65 - 75 F in the room) and crank up to about 56 - 58 when running Prime 95 v 25.5. Watch your temps. Most people run coretemp to get accurate readings of...
