I hate the push pins, but the first time I did a Socket A (first computer I built as well) I was sweating it. I remember having a screwdriver slip and hit the mobo one time, luckily didn't hurt the mobo.
Bought two kits for my X58A-UD3R and running 12gb no problem. Have an extra stick left over that way, but I'd rather do that so I'll have the extra stick when going to either SB or IB.
I've had pretty good luck with my 6870s crossfired. Of course there's always a game or two that don't utilize it for jack or having to wait for a driver update. If you already have one card and your PSU can handle it then I say go for it.
There's always an advance auto code on the website it seems like. Can't remember the last time I actually went to the store to buy something, easier and cheaper to buy online and select store pickup.
I had an issue with a bad sata cable, and during the troubleshooting had somehow left my pump molex disconnected. CPU survived, but one of my HD4870s didn't make it. Started melting the block (maze 4) and leaked onto the bottom card (which still worked after cleaning) so yeah things can get...
With a i7 950 at 4.3ghz it just isn't worth it to me right now. Now adding another HD6870 is a possibility, but I'm not struggling now and very likely could skip crossfire and wait for the next generation of cards.
I snagged a Rasa for my i7 950, and yeah the instructions/mount seem a little janky. Block performs good though. 4.3ghz/hyperthreading on with 1.42v and my hottest core is 72 testing with linx. Variance is good ranging from 70-72 as well. Next time I have to mount I'm going to get white out or...
There's a lot of truth in what cannondale06 is saying. I'm kinda stuck right now with what to do. I have crossfired 4870s that are performing great and allowed me to skip the 58XX series, but would I have been better off selling them when I could have got something out of them and going with a...
Two waterblocks (MCW6000 and Dtek Fuzion) for five different computers. One gpu block (maze 4) for five different graphics card. Just added a second gpu block for crossfire though. Not bad lifespan if you ask me. Have been watercooling long enough for a Laing D5 to bite the dust. Some of the...
Horizontal lines in BC2 aren't as bad with crossfire with the 10.5 from my two days of use. They disappear usually after a couple seconds if they crop up as well.
That's something I've always wondered about. Is there a higher lag using a HDTV over a monitor? Something noticeable with first person shooters? I mean the price of a 32" 1080p TV makes them viable for monitors in my opinion.
I'm using a Chieftec clone right now. 120mm exhaust though. Lowered the rails and power supply and had a triple rad up top at one point. I seriously don't need the thing, but I can't help but want to order one.
Saying Seasonic is the best is a bold statement, but for consumer level PSUs they're right up there. Used a S12+ 650w for around three years and was worth every penny (was replaced with a Seasonic built 750w for piece of mind on a crossfire setup). I'd recommend them.
Well they weren't exactly released this year, but SSDs have now become more mainstream in 2009 so that's my pick. Big improvement over mechanical hard drives.
FWIW I think the OP posted a good deal, and while it wasn't worded 100% correct I wouldn't bust his chops for it. I mean there's a Ebay BCB 20% off thread that has better response, and that's a waiting game sometimes compared to instant gratification of the GC.
I own one myself, and it has no problems with a 3.84ghz C2Q and two HD4870s. PSU can pull a whopping 744w of the advertised 750w off the 12v rail. Seasonic made to boot.
I'm going to side with Kniah on the difference in PCBs. My reference HD4870 with the digital vregs does 870 on the core while my non reference one analog vregs tops at 805. Really like the original reference boards with digital vregs myself. Newer boards have a cheapish look/feel to them.
See if it's game specific, which is what I would imagine. Issue can also be driver specific even though you have the latest drivers. Saints Row 2 for instance has had crossfire broken since the 9.1 drivers. Anything after that has the screen flicker you're referring to and requires turning...
I just went back to external recently. Like it better myself. Pics are close to the finished product, and yes it's on the big side. Two '77 bonneville heatercores, two cpx-pro pumps, two 12v comair rotron fans, and a home made high amp low dropout voltage regulator to tame the fans. You don't...
IMO the EarthWatts are good overall PSUs for the average computer, but for higher end I'd look elsewhere as the PSU can't push the 12v rail like a more enthusiast oriented PSU. Now the Truepower News are a different story. The 750w has the 12v rail rated at 744w.
I'd say 5850 as well. Running 4870s in crossfire and when it scales well it's all good, but there are still games out there that don't scale very well or won't even run in crossfire. Heck even driver updates break crossfire in some games, Saints Row 2 has had crossfire broken since 9.2 I think.
Haha, I've still got an old Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 laying around. I've seen irregularities myself and it's annoying. Using a MS Habu right now and the buttons are spot on, although the mouse is a little heavier than I like.
I'm thinking top mounted rad as well. I ran a top mounted for a while and had to use one 90 at the back for the inlet tube, but didn't need one from the outlet to the cpu block. I'd prefer having the vario version of that pump as it isn't specified, but you'll be fine either way.
This is usually the time of the year I feel like upgrading something, whether it be CPU or GPU. To be honest though with a 3.84ghz C2Q and Crossfire HD4870s I just can't see it. No doubt i5/i7 and would be faster, but it isn't like I'm struggling. Same goes for the graphics card. I'd have to go...
I got rid of a few instabilities with two HD4870s in crossfire by dropping CCC and using ATT myself. Would sometimes start a game and get horrible corruption using CCC.
