Asrock 775 Dual VSTA Incompatible with Nvidia 8800 series

Tom's Hardware is reporting a 25% performance drop on the new 8800 GTS when using PCIe x4 (like on our Dual-VSTA's) rather than PCIe x16. http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/PCI-Express-2-0-Crossfire,review-29948-3.html I might save up for a new mobo before playing thru Crysis :)

Asrock 775 Dual VSTA Incompatible with Nvidia 8800 series

Just used the latest Nibitor to edit my original Inno3D bios to GEN1 and replaced the ASUS bios. http://www.yourfilehost.com/media.php?cat=other&file=i3gen1.rom The only difference seemed to be the bios version (62.92.12.00.05 vs ASUS's 62.92.12.00.00). Still *feels* better with correct...

Asrock 775 Dual VSTA Incompatible with Nvidia 8800 series

I asked at the Nibitor forum and apparently they are almost ready to release a new version which will include the PCIe GEN1/GEN2 option. So hopefully you could just use Nibitor to read the BIOS, modify to GEN1 and then reboot and flash the modified BIOS...

Asrock 775 Dual VSTA Incompatible with Nvidia 8800 series

Before finding another motherboard to flash on, I tried leaving my 6800GT in the AGP with monitor plugged in, 8800GT in the PCIe and motherboard to to use AGP first. Unfortunately it just didnt seem to turn on at all with the GEN2 8800GT sitting in the PCIe slot. Its worth a try tho!

Asrock 775 Dual VSTA Incompatible with Nvidia 8800 series

Thanks for the beches optimummind, interesting result. Were all run after applying the BIOS update? Maybe the P35 was trying to send PCIe x16 2.0 and the 8800GT was only having GEN1?? Anyway - I am just happy to have my new card working!

Asrock 775 Dual VSTA Incompatible with Nvidia 8800 series

Good point Coldpower. Other than overclocking I dont see much benefit. Even the Crysis demo plays smoooth for me atm at 1680x1050 and 2xAA. Thats what I need a GPU for! Saying that, my 8500 3dMark06 is on the low side for this card (two thirds of the way down 3dMark results of people...

Asrock 775 Dual VSTA Incompatible with Nvidia 8800 series

I got the ASUS GEN1 BIOS from the ASRock techs and risked it on my Inno3D card. ** My 8800GT now works with my 775Dual VSTA :) Find the BIOS file and flash utility here: http://www.yourfilehost.com/media.php?cat=other&file=ASUS8800GT.zip I put the card in another motherboard, booted...

Asrock 775 Dual VSTA Incompatible with Nvidia 8800 series

ASUS have replied and apparently know nothing about a GEN1 8800GT BIOS. Still nothing from Inno3D. Thats brilliant that eVGA may send you a GEN1 BIOS. Could you post it here when you have it? If I have nothing I may try that on my Inno3D card in desperation. I have tried Nibitor with my...

Asrock 775 Dual VSTA Incompatible with Nvidia 8800 series

I have the 775Dual VSTA and Inno3D 8800GT and confirm I also cant get i to boot at all. I dont think its a power issue - I have 550W PSU with 30A on 12V+. My understanding is that the GEN2 (PCI Express 1.1-2.0) 8800GT is not compatible with the 775Dual VSTA at the moment. I think there...
