I had this happen to me with Win 7 Ultimate as well for the last few months... so I switched to Linux Mint. Ironically, the shutdown process does the very same thing on this new OS. I am interested in what others have to say.
Thanks for that info. Right now I have the Tyco internal laptop leads, but not installed. A longer whip cable would be nice --- but it seems to be working out for you.
+1 and subscribed.
I LOVE this case. Going to open it up again soon ... run antenna leads to a mini PCI-E wifi card and install a new Crucial M4 (C300 going into older box).
Grats on grabbing this case :) Offhand I do not know how to fine tune the RAM timings in the BIOS (I am on 1.05). I use G.Skill 1600 CL9s ... the BIOS recognizes them at 1600 but set to CL11 ... no worries though, this box is fast and satisfying on every level. I would not stress it. I would be...
I would have to say no as well. I have a spare Antec 300 I just measured, and I got around 11.25" for maximum card length before hitting the HDD cage bracket. You could mod or notch that bracket some, but stock it won't work. 11" or less should work.
I thought of doing that if I decided to do a push/pull on the radiator, leaving FAN1 & FAN2 for the fans. I do not like the thought of the mobo throttling the pump too. I'll switch it over when I open the case again to install a new fan.
^^^ I like how you installed the Asetek cold block on the CPU. Are the I/O water lines under a lot of stress in that configuration?
I ordered that Kama Scythe PWM fan (11 on Amazon vs. 17 on FrozenCPU). I'll see if it is quiet enough to run in constant Mid Mode and drop my temps more.
Neat tool.
My run said "The total system power consumption of your choice is 296 Watts."
I need a new GPU so it seems that I have some head room to play around with :D
I am using the original Asetek thermal paste for now. I had used Arctic Silver 5 with the ICE cooler, and plan to use that when I take the assembly back out to replace the fan soon.
This is my first water cooler. Is there any type of thin washer I could use, to keep the radiator from direct...
I'll throw this one up until I get a series of pictures on here.
This was after I installed the backplate behind the motherboard for the Asetek cooler.
I just completed the BIOS mod after a few headaches. Running Prime now, temps within a 68-75C range and with fan set to MID mode in the BIOS. CPU at 4.5 GHz ... but I am noticing with CPU-Z and other tools, the CPU mulitplier is only reading at 42. I'll recheck the BIOS again.
@JRM
How does...
Good to hear that worked for you. I downloaded AMIBCP 4.53 the other day, tweaked the 1.05 BIOS, and then ran the SZ68R000.105_64.exe in the WIN folder to upgrade the BIOS. I did this twice (after saving the BIOS in AMIBCP) and I could not find the Long Power Duration setting in the BIOS? Either...
Cool mod for that SSD! I doubt it would work on the SZ68R5 due to the external bays. As far as Ivy Bridge support, that only works if Shuttle supports it with a BIOS release. Same for tweaking voltages.
My Asetek is confirmed "Out for Delivery" by USPS. I promise I'll take some pictures when I...
Thanks for that info. I can hit up Ace Hardware for those specific screws once I receive my Asetek cooler.
Thanks for the pics. Amazing that all of this hardware can fit into this SFF case :)
I'll keep everyone updated when I receive my Asetek and take pictures.
@uunut
Any luck with the Asetek installation?
I messaged asetekparts on eBay. They said more Asetek 545LCs will be online within a week or so. That is when I'll grab one.
I already have ideas to notch the bottom of the drive cage to allow more room for the Asetek's in/outs.
I hear ya on the sleep deprivation ;)
Looking forward to seeing pictures and hearing how everything is running. Also, if you have the link to @simonmalty's BIOS mod, PM me please. I plan on buying the Asetek cooler within the next week, but I need to PM the seller on eBay, as none are currently...
As seen on Simon Maltby's review of this case:
The drive cage fits if the in/out of the waterblock is turned at that angle.
Nice OC using the ICE cooler ... I have not OC'd mine, but ran 30 minutes or so of video encoding using all 4 cores, and reached those temps (70-72C).
I will OC...
Agreed. I am going the Asetek 545LC route soon. What are your idle temps using the ICE cooler with no overclock? Mine sit around 45-47C. I keep thinking I need to re-seat the cooler.
I looked at those Kingston memory sticks, but went another route since the voltage stated 1.65V, which is not...
Yes. The Ivy Bridge will fit in the 1155 socket. On the Shuttle BIOS releases, that I do not know. I am hoping for a new BIOS release that will allow to fine tune voltages... mainly to the CPU and DIMM (my RAM can run on 1.35V @ 1600Mhz, but currently runs a default of 1.50V, with the only...
As I can see, there is no way to undervolt anything in the BIOS. I am currently using BIOS 1.04. 1.05 is available, but it does not mention undervolting on the Shuttle site. The only changes to voltages is in increments of +50mv.
I hope they recognize this and release a new BIOS soon.
I was able to put my SZ68R5 setup together without any major hiccups. As mentioned, the internal USB3 cable is very stiff, so use caution when touching it. The only issue I had (aside from the push pins on the ICE cooler) was putting the optical/hard drive tray back in while keeping the PSU...
My CPU and RAM arrived today. Tomorrow my SZ68R5 arrives, so I will have updated news and pictures. I hope mine is not a dud! Sorry to hear about yours.
