Everything works. I had some settings wrong for softth. But my problem at first was definitely a poor driver install. With the new drivers covering all nvidia cards, everyone should be fine with any pairing...
I have updated to 177.79, and both cards get installed fine. Again, regular single monitor gaming is fine. Triple monitor gaming fails to run with softth. I actually get less far with this driver. Before, I could load the game fully (and across three screens) and it would crash when I entered it...
Jim, thanks, At first I *was* just trying to get it to work on just one monitor while both cards were in the machine. Then I was able to do so - games run fine on the primary screen. But now, triple monitors are my issue.
Speedy, I will update the thread for sure. And will try to get to...
Hi guys, thanks!
I am in XP. I have a p5n32-e SLI board, with fully up to date bios. The two cards are in the two blue PCI-E slots where they should be?
As for drivers, I have the 177.41 drivers for the 280 installed. To continue from above, when the 8800 was not recognized, I installed it...
I installed a new gtx 280 tonight with the 8800gtx as a secondary for a third monitor, and games crashed right away, running on the primary monitor of the 280.
From the start, I tried installing the new 280 drivers over what I had for the 8800 when I first booted up with the new card. I...
I have a dead pixel near center as well. I thought it would wreck my experience with the monitor when I first noticed it. But I don't notice it any more. Too busy working. It's very difficult to make out from normal viewing position, even when you're looking for it. I do hope my second Planar...
Ami, what did I say, when calibrated this monitor pumps out all the accuracy and punch you could ever want. Out of the box it's absolutely going to be perfect for regular users.
Sharpness was also a massive, unexpected boon to me. It's like putting glasses on for the first time, and for the...
Bill, thanks! I am a fan of sound quality, yes. Interesting you used to sell audio stuff. I have $5000 speakers paired with a $1200 receiver, and still need to feed the speakers better. I'm running the Klipsch reference 7 5.1 speaker setup with a Yamaha rx-v2500. My next receiver's budget will...
Yeah I set that up last night. I've got one stick in now, and it passed tests this morning, letting it run for 10 minutes. Errors would show up fast for bad ram.
My last ASUS mb I ran 4gb in without issue in XP. Windows only used 2.4 gb I think, but I need all the ram I can get for my work...
Ok...this gets interesting...I crashed in Half Life with the onboard audio. So it's not the sound cards. Could be a damaged CPU, the MB, or the ram. The ram is CORSAIR XMS2 TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145176
I have two sticks, 2gb each, in...
I will add, while pretty sure, I'm still not 100% sure it's the sound card. I have been crashing in windows while doing work. Again no BSODs, just locks like in the games. They came when crunching big files in photoshop, and running a few other processor/video intensive apps.
But the other...
@Bill: They are $300 headphones :) I don't want to use the onboard, which is realtek I believe. I worry about the quality, features, and performance in apps and games. I've heard comments ranging from "ok" to "horrible".
If it's a hardware incompatibility, would a new Creative card be any...
Uncle, thanks once again for your help. Yes I am still using speedfan.
I did some testing tonight with the system. The crashing I was experiencing in the games seemed to be related to the Audigy 4 sound card. I don't think the heat is crashing me, but it's a big problem regardless. You'll see...
Ok, I just put the vcore in the bios down to 1.20v. It reads 1.18v in the asus probe, and 1.10v in speedfan. My temps just dropped 8-10 degrees C to 44C at idle.
I have never before seen a MB have wrong default values before. How do I know what's right to use? Do I stress test it somehow in...
@Bill: I show the same 54-55C temp using coretemp.
@Uncle, I will check the hardware soon. The voltage from the CPU-Z reads 1.213v.
I am having game trouble too...
In a racing sim I locked up after a few minutes of play. Immediately upon the reboot, I checked my temps in the bios and...
New 6700 duo CPU, no overclocking or changes from default in my ASUS bios, was running at 77C idle with stock fan. Under some load I would completely freeze. Insane temp, eh?
With advice from someone here, I redid the arctic silver (thin spread with razor), and reseated the heat sink about...
Well the cpu top looks flat to me. I wonder about the default cooler though...
I just did it again, and this time went very very thin on the arctic silver. I rotated the cooler 90 degrees. Back to 50C without the door on. It's better than 78C. Maybe I should just order an aftermarket cooler? Or...
Do you mean the bracket that the mb holds it with? Or the actual top of the cpu?
Yeah something is really wrong. I have greased and reseated it 3 times now, and I'm back up to 58C without the case door on.
Vcore is set to auto in the Asus bios on bootup. In the probe here in windows it says...
At 60C idle with case door on. Just FYI, I have two fans lower bottom (big and small), a big one plus the psu blow out top back, and a small one blowing out top of case to help the draw.
I may have used too much last time. When I took it off, it also didn't seem to be even across the top of the cpu.
Anyhow, I just put a much thinner amount on. And as far as I could tell, the heatsink snapped on well. My temps are now 55C in both the Asus probe and CoreTemp. Much better...
Well I softly pushed the heatsink tabs, laying the case on its side. It clicked a bit, but no effect to temperature. Looks like I have to take everything apart here...
Vanh thanks so much. I will check the heat sink again. When I installed it, I did look but not too closely. It's the stock cooler. This is CPU core I asume, from the ASUS motherboard software monitor. Is coretemp and tat software or something?
I took off the side of the case, it's down to...
I made a new system this past weekend. I have had random lockups three times now. Total screen freeze, requiring reboot. It's an intel 6700 duo on an Asus P5N32E-SLI board. I didn't think the case was running hot with all the fans in action, but I installed Asus's PC Probe, and alarms are going...
Don't worry about RAID 0 and my uses, which is for large photoshop file processing. I just need to know if the other separate storage drives will slow things down for the RAID 0, or will work slower themselves...
Do not get the Planar. It needs to be viewed straight on. The NEC 2690 would be better for you, as it has much better angles and a more uniform backlighting as well. I know nothing of the Benq, sorry.
