I used a heat gun on my friends laptop. I heated up the northbridge first - would not post. I then heated up the gpu and it posted. It is still working after reassemby for now. I had previously baked it. The baking fix lasted about 6 weeks.
This is not a scientific test with controls. The...
I had helped a friend bake his laptop and it just died again. Has anyone successful double baked an everex?
I will probably try it next weekend.
The battery is also pretty worn out. How hard is it to replace cells in a li-ion? I have heard if not done properly it can cause fires.
It...
The problem seems to be more 'cold solder' joints forming due to poor connections and the stress of heating and cooling cycles. The reason baking works is that it heats up flux and helps repair the connections albeit temporarily.
I don't think there is a set way to guarantee prolonged life...
If you are talking about the office max 3 year warranty, then they will give you an office max gift card for the purchase price of the everex when you bought it (since they probably can't fix it).
It is the mobo. Baking it does work - reconnects cold solder joints, but probably only for a limited time (see earlier posts). I would probably try parting it out on ebay at this point.
The everex era is coming to an end. They have closed up US operations.
$350 is too much Please read the everex support thread. These laptops all have a design flaw which kills then after 1-2 years. People have ended up baking them (no joke) to try and fix them.
Buying one is a gamble and I would look elsewhere.
Yes, I found that out also. Not really worth the $$$ to send it in imho, especially when you will get the mobo replaced with one with the same design flaw.
I am baking my friends also. It seems a logical fix, but I wonder how long it will last before the problems reapper. It is evidentally cold soldered joints caused by thermal cycling.
I am sure a lot of baked 'katrina car' everex's are headed to ebay....
It is excellent monitor. The only issue is that it is not HDCP compatible so you may have trouble playing Bluray movies in vista. I have seen these go for $250+ on craigslist and think that a used working cared for 2405fpw is much better then a new 24" tn panel you would find in this price range.
Yep, the 7805 and 7811 fx laptops are a pretty remarkable bang for your buck. I would say on par with the everex when it was $699 back in march of '07. It is amazing what changes in technology can happen in 21 months.
Oddly, a friend of mine just told me he was going to buy a used everex for $300. The price seems very good, but the one I sold several months ago died and there are lots of people reporting the untimely deaths of their everex from what I can see. Of course the people with the problems are the...
Thanks Willywanker. I will check out the everex forums. I really liked this laptop, but if a lot are dying after one year I would probably avoid everex in the future.
The guy I sold my xt5000t says that it no longer will post. Just has the hd led and a few led lights turn on and then nothing. Screen stays black. Anyone having the same issue? I would like to help him out if I can. It was never overclocked and when i had it all I did was upgrade the ram.
I just sold my Everex for $550...not to shabby for a years usage. I had to move over to an ugly duckling dell vostro 1500 because I needed more portability and batttery life. The Vostro does have an 8600gt video card and wsxga+ 15 in screen to make up for its poor looks.
I will miss the...
Hmmm. I was going to buy this, but now the Vostro talk is stuck in my head. How much better is the 8600gt in the vostro 15" then the gf 7600 in the everex?
I am still thinking of picking this up with the MaxAssurrance protection plan (for another $200+ dollars). Anyone have any comments on the extended warranty? I figure with the limited availability, heat this thing generates and scarcity of parts there are bound to be problems getting this...
I more detailed response:
The highest integer you can have in a 32-bit register is 4,294,967,295. That's why if you load up a 32-bit machine with 4GB of RAM it won't all get used. Peripherals all use some of those memory addresses. They get "mapped" into the address space. Some of them, like...
I was told that there is a 3gb limit on the Windows 32bit os. While 4gb can technically be addressed the extra 1gb is (at best) allocated to windows resources outside of the control of the user - like pci bus and video. So in essence 3gb is the useful limit of ram in those 32bit os's Anything...
Just a heads up for those that missed out on this deal (Omax no longer sells the everex). Compusa is selling the 17" hp dv9207us lappy with 7600go dedicated,120gb sata + extra slot, 1gb ram, lightscribe burner, intel core duo 1.7ghz, tv tuner, remote, webcam for 799 after a $400 rebate ($350 of...
I may wait for the revision version to come out. They have stated mutliple times the $700 price so I think they are trying to keep at that price point. I was on the fence before, but if I can hold out for a better battery and keyboard I will.
The other 17 inch laptops are also dropping in...
I am considering getting this for using with autocad, softimage, 3ds max and some other graphics apps. Do you think this will fit the bill? I am a little worried that the wxga+ screen 1440*900 will be too cramped (would prefer wsxga or wuxga resolution).
I am also wondering if I should get...
