cool, thaks for the info guys, i appreciate it greatly.
there's nothing worse than adding up 2k$ worth of parts, getting them all on time, getting excited to put everything together and finding out stuff doesnt fit or work. i know the forums have saved me from that before.
I was just reading some reviews on the Tuniq Tower 120, and it seemed people were having trouble getting to the screws to screw it down as the blades are over the top of the screws. any experience with that? any trick to doing it?
thanks again!
I'm building my first new box in about 8 years (yes, still running a socket A 1.33ghz :) ) and I want to build a monster that I'll be happy with for a few years. I'm looking at the EVGA NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI ATX for a motherboard and a Q6600, but as I haven't kept up in the hardware world...
thanks. i was looking at the gf4 mx440's and they are like 50$, i figured for that much i should be able to get a better (older) card. problem is finding a straight PCI these days
my geforce 4 mx440 ($22 like 3 years ago) just lost the blue smoke battle -- what is the cheapest video card (PCI) out there right now that has a s-video and can handle playing mpg/divx/xvid? any specific cards you guys really recomend for this use?
tia!~
nascar, have you run into this same problem?
I have tried what you suggested, didnt seem to work.
update, I formatted again last night and put XP pro on (no sp), ghosted it, installed the via chipset drivers and then the old ati drivers off of my cd = same problem. ghosted it back to the...
ive got the same problem also. worked fine for 8 months, now nothing. i have reformated my machine three times now and cant get squat (used xpsp2 cd). i'm going to try xp no sp tonight and see if that does anything.
searched around on the internet and it seems quite a few people have the...
I'm a generally a windows guy, but keep leaning towards linux to mess around anytime I have free time. I recently upgraded ( :) ) one of my laptops to linux and have messing around installing neat tools and other apps to expand the functionality of it.
Just wondering if any of you have...
has anyone gotten sofware suspend to work on FC3?
I've recompiled the kernel and followed all the directions i could find (http://www.cri.ch/linux/docs/sk0011.html), and i can even sucessfully write the suspend file to my swap /dev/hda3 (after swapon), but when i boot the resume kernel in...
from novell 5 up you can use console one/ zenworks to have novell auto-create an account on the local machine on first login for each user, then when you change the password in novell, the next time they log in, it changes the password on the local windows machine. I believe you need to be...
i ran into the same thing, not sure why it happens, but i found that i had better luck by turning the ftp service on in osx and then using smartftp on the windows machine to grab the files off of it.
good luck
i have several os9.2.2 machines that are trying to open a network share that they don't have access to on startup. you need to click "ok" between 10-40 times to get past the error message. i would like to remove the "startup script" or whatever is having the os do this, but i cannot find it...
I have my Windows 2000/XP users' "My Documents" folder repointed to the users space on the server (which has a "My Documents" folder on it)
On Windows XP you can go to "Search" and find files in "My Documents" and it finds all of them, on Windows 2000 it does not find some of the files when...
again thanks for all your thoughts.
i really dont want to have a remote computer rebooting these things, thanks for the suggestion but i dont want to do that.
the firewall is not an issue, ive been running for 6 months with the firewall in place (sp1 firewall before sp2), SMB is blocked...
wow, first of all, thanks for all the great responses, i really appreciate the feedback
login scripts and group policy are not affected by the firewall.
i know how to get the computers to shutdown, so thats not a problem. scheduling the shutdown on each computer is.
i'd really rather...
that is one option i've thought of. in the past i havent had much luck with using remote tools such as that though, and as most of these computers are winxp sp2 with the firewall enabled, im not sure how well that would work. thanks for the idea
i have about 200 machines that i would like to reboot every night at say midnight. they are all 2k/xp, i have login scripts and group policy control over all of them (windows AD).
i would really prefer to not have to touch every computer and put a task to do this in the scheduler as it would...
you can use a product like deep freeze to lock down everything, or create a ghost image of the original partition and set up ghost to ghost the image back on there after reboot, that way if anything gets screwed up, you can just reboot the computer
we have a bunch of new computers that have the WOL enabled, and they are waking up constantly. As far as we know (were trapping packets now) no MagicPackets are being sent out on the network. Did Intel just implement the WOL poorly on this card? Is anyone else running into this?
on that router (i have the same, just the 8 port model), you dont even have to be outside the dhcp range. when dhcp runs to giv e a new computer an address, it will see there is traffic over say 192.168.1.2 and wont hand it out.
on my setup, i just set the DHCP pool at 192.168.1.10-.20, and...
most universities frown on setting up your own wireless network; at both of the ones I've worked at your port will be turned off if they detect you are doing this (if you have a router hooked up to the port they will find it). they are usually fairly strict about this and you may be gambling...

hey it seems awhile back there was some talk of a Pocket PC specific hardOCP page (optimized for that ity-bity screen) does this exsist?
is there an RSS feed? im unable to find anything on the site itself covering this.
thanks!
I have a CD that has the entire contents of a 250mb harddrive from a Macintosh Quadra 700 running OS 7.5.3 on it.
I need to take all of the documents on here (all wordperfect for mac) and open them on a windows xp machine running office xp. i think there are converters right in word that...
theres no way im going to walk around. that would take forever (500 machines and 3 seperate locations)
this has never been important in the past, so thats why an expenditure is a big deal. ive got at least one person honesty looking at ezaudit right now at least.
i guess for now the batch...
well since no one else had any info, ive come up with this:
echo %USERNAME%, %COMPUTERNAME%, %PROCESSOR_IDENTIFIER%, %WINDIR% >> \\servername\Inventory$\inventory.csv
which kind of does the trick. need to translate the proc_id into something useful, and windir gives you whether the root...
