I think this might be a good alternative, the Panasonic 32LZ800 looks like a great screen (Ips Alpha panel.) although it is more expensive than your budget point. I don't know how it performs at low brightness.
Or maybe a 32" with 720p?
Mostly, I work at 1024 x 768 on a Sony G520.
I usually sit at an arm's length of the screen to fit the keyboard and the tablet. I hate struggling to read text and I don't like sitting too close to the screen. For long imaging work, I push it to 1600x1200.
I really like the opportunity of...
I've been looking around a long time for a 30", I think I will settle for he W3000H-BN because some stores carries them stock (I'm in Canada) , I can screen a good unit before buying it.
As somebody suggested it, I will try it using several shades of gray (0-25-20-75-100) to spot backlight...
The samsung has different lcd technology, some prefers the LG IPS Panel.
Viewing angles on the new samsung 30" panels are supposed to be quite good.
The best would be to go see a 30" Ips panel (Apple, Dell, LG, etc) and 30" Samsung panel (305t or a 30" Gateway) in person to see for yourself...
Here, in Canada it's around $3500 for the Eizo SX3031W.
This is for a monitor without hardware calibration capability, and yes I do find it expensive.
I might as well pay 1100$ for a 305t with a similar samsung panel, I'm not sure the extra 2500$ is worth it at the moment.
It is sad that...
Have you heard about the 16 megapixels Planar Dome?

Any news on this, Is it really like as bad as the picture?
I wonder if the Dell 3008 suffer from the same problem, I don't remember hearing about this on the 3007 though...

I've read somewhere that the lg model has a 4:3 feature.
It would be interesting to know more about the Lg model and the electronics, maybe the panel is implemented in a better way since it's the same company that manufacture them.

Hey! I don't think a lot of people have the chance to compare those three displays, were lucky you share this with us!
Please post more comments/comparison as you get familiar using the monitor...
I forgot to mention that much of my reading is done at 1024x768, when I do some heavy graphic work I switch to 1600x1200. (a little executable file switches between resolutions.)
Oh, I did not realized that newer Ips Panels had higher contrast ratio.
It's true that current Apple 30inches are two generation behind this panel.

It's a matter of personal preferences, for me color stability at any angle is important, also the black level information.
The portrait mode on a 30" is something that I've been waiting for.

Hi,
I have a second monitor that works well, but when I plug it with a Dual-Link cable, the monitor does not get detected at startup.
With a single-link the monitor gets detected, and if I plug the Dual-link cable once Xp is started the second monitor works fine.
I want to use the Dual...
Excellent monitor, I've worked with it for years, (or was it a 21", I can't remember)
Anyhow, this monitor is definitely capable of higher resolution than HD movies.
Check if it has not become blurry and if the colors are alright.

Tarc
