    AquaStream XT

I own an XT Ultra pump and I honestly tried hard to like it. However, I've come to the conclusion that it's in my best interest to simply forget it, until they iron out the bugs (if ever). With every firmware update so far the problems have compounded each other, ranging from not flashing...

    AquaStream XT

I got one, but I won't install it before they release the new firmware. Currently the pump appears to have a few nagging problems. 1) circuit plate temp probe indicates overheating too soon 2) fan overload protection is set too tight and may give you errors without anything being wrong or...

Pros and Cons of a MacBook

The MacFUSE NTFS-3G driver isn't adequate for HD drives connected through USB 2.0. Due to some kind of bug, or perhaps it's even deliberate, it only transfers data at the impossible slow USB 1.1 speed. The original developer had a fixed version available. However, he had to remove it due to...

Pros and Cons of a MacBook

The biggest deal killer when booting Windows on a Mac is that it can't write to an NTFS drive, sort of lame considering the way Apple is marketing Windows compatibility.

Adding an 8800GTX to my loop.. what kind of temp increase?

It could be pretty dramatic, i.e., about 15-20C increase with equal fan speed.

AS5 (or any TIM) application technique for Quad Core

Indeed...the Artic Silver method by laying down a stripe appears to work best. I tried spreading it out well, which resulted in an over 10C temp increase. The individual core temps also lost all uniformity. Spreading it out on my 8800 GPU did on the other hand work well. My guess is that it's...

HOWTO: Make a bootable USB key... (for BIOS flash, firmware update, etc)

For whatever reason I couldn't get the HP tool to work. It wouldn't see my USB sticks. As an alternative I can recommend mbrtool. It's a simple util that makes your stick bootable through a format. No additional files required. http://www.marlow.dk/tech/src/mbrtool.zip Confirmed to work...

    Bad Axe 2 question

Over 1.4V sounds a lot for 3Ghz. Have you tried testing with higher MCH, FSB termination and VDIMM yet? EIST and C1E don't really have an effect on your BIOS version. Regardless of setting it stays on. Also, it only lowers the multiplier to save energy without touching the voltage. So...

    Bad Axe 2 & 1333MHz

1:1 in terms of frequency isn't really relevant. What you basically want is to make the memory bottleneck as small as possible. In other words up the frequency to get as much as possible real world throughput of data in combination with low latency. The differences however in actual...

8800 GTX DIrectX and OpenGL performance.

The Nvidia Quadro FX5600 is basically an 8800GTX with a different BIOS,driver, more mem, but lower clock. Suffice to say the potential of the G80 GPU is considerably higher for an OpenGL environment than any 1900.

    HD 2900XTX Benchmarks

If the R600 core is slower than the G80, a larger memory bandwidth isn't going to help much. An analogy would be upgrading from a 3 lane to a 6 lane freeway for 3 cars. At full throttle those 3 cars aren't going from point A to B any faster in 6 lanes than they will in 3, regardless of the extra...

    What's the problem with qcores?

If you're planning to OC you may want to shy away from the 1333 FSB versions with a locked multiplier CPU. They may limit your max frequency ceiling due to lower internal multipliers and thereby requiring a higher relative FSB for every speed increase.

    QX6700 quad core advice/help?

The QX6700 won't drop much if anything in price. Extreme series simply get replaced by a newer version and discontinued. The 6700 planned for later on will lose the unlocked multiplier so no dice there either if you desire that feature. As for your memory question on the other thread, note that...

    Intel Quadcore QX6800...

Are you just arguing for the sake of arguing or something? Your examples have no bearing on the QX6700 versus the QX6800. Both aforementioned CPUs are identical whereas I'm pretty sure a Civic doesn't have a Corvette engine. Perhaps this article will help you understand...

    Intel Quadcore QX6800...

You'd be hard pressed to find any QX6700 that won't OC identically to a QX6800. The same reasoning can't be applied to a CPU with a locked multiplier due to dependencies of the FSB. When the 6700 drops in price it'll loose the "X" designation and have a locked multiplier as well.
  19. D

    Intel Quadcore QX6800...

That depends on your point of view. In my opinion the QX6800 is simply a QX6700 with the factory default multiplier set to 11x instead of 10x. They also boosted the default voltage a little in the QX6800. So, you're basically getting a QX6700 that's factory OC'ed or guaranteed if you will to run...

    NEC LCD2690

I don't know where in Europe you're situated. However, in most places as a consumer you have the right to return goods with-in the first or second week (without reason). If your monitor doesn't live up to expectations return it. When the product is brand new I wouldn't want to bother with...

    Will GF8900 GTX Outpace R600?

Temparature sensors on EVGA 680i and Asus Striker

If you run SLI with a combined video ram of ~1.5GB you won't be able to use 4GB system mem with a 32-bit OS (I'll assume you're using that for best gaming). The video mem will be deducted from your total addressing space of 4GB and you'll be left with less than 2.5GB space for RAM. The EVGA...

    [H] Asus Striker Review

I understand the double and quad data rates. The confusion was solely based on the reference clock. My Everest comment was based on the quote above. In both cases you state 533 ram. I see now that I didn't read your 1066 bus reference properly.

What do you think of the Bad Axe 2???

    [H] Asus Striker Review

That's what I was referring too. When the FSB is at 400 the ram will at double data rate be at 800 with a 1:1 divider. Change that to a 3:2 divider and you get 400 * 2 * 2/3  or rather 400/3 * 2 * 2 = 533.

    [H] Asus Striker Review

I'm not familiar with the Striker specifically. However, won't an FSB at 400mhz with a 3:2 divider cause your ram to run at 533?

    Quesetion on SLI performance

The problem with SLI ready boards is that the nVidia chipset boards are rather a headache on their own. They still aren't as stable and reliable as Intel 965/975 chipset boards. If trouble free performance is one of your priorities go with an Intel based or even Intel branded board and a single...

Try it some time....if you have a C2D and 8800GTX running you won't notice it in a game. Rarely do they start "guys what should I get"...

Need Help Building an Extreme Gaming $4,000-$5,000 Comp

I wouldn't recommend a quad core for gaming at all. It's going to be pretty much useless for quite some time to come. You can get better speeds with an E6600 and OC it. Also, quad cores will drop almost half in price by the 2nd half of this year. For memory it's also pretty much useless to go...

Need Help Building an Extreme Gaming $4,000-$5,000 Comp

That refers to the 8800GTX or any other "gaming" oriented video card. I also think it's a good idea to get SLI if you're planning to drive 1900x1200 or higher resolution displays. Mostly it will depend on the type of games you're going to play. A dual 8800GTX set-up will for instance be of...
