I caught onto that pretty quick, but Ray was completely useless for that battle. Half the time he'd be nullifying my slime tethers with his capture stream, the other half he'd be knocked down and I'd get stuck in the middle of a bunch of crawlers while angels bombarded me into oblivion. And when...
Well, I finally beat the game, although I finally had to resort to a trainer to get past the stone angels. Overall, I think it was money well spent, as the game was fairly satisfying, although there were definitely spots that reeked of bad design (i.e. the last few battles). Winning a fight in a...
If there's one problem I have with the game, it's the maddeningly inconsistent level of difficulty. I'm at the Stone Angel fight, and the little beasties are wiping me out every time I start it. The only other one I had trouble on was the final library boss, and I managed to use a cheap trick to...
I picked this up on Steam and I'm loving it. The graphics are solid, and the physics engine is INCREDIBLE. The sheer chaos in the library level on an i7 is something to behold. There's just nothing like dashing through piles of books stacked floor to roof, knocking them all aside and blasting...
Awesome! Been waiting for this ever since Steam came out. And Dark Corners of the Earth, great game that never worked properly on my computer. Might have to give it a second chance.
There's useful reasons for Twitter, I follow a few news outlets, some friends, and a couple authors, artists, and tv personalities who post updates from the set--the folks at Mythbusters are actually pretty interesting with explanations of how they do certain things. But seriously, attention...
I think the Unibody MacBook is probably the direction I'll push him. He does a lot of traveling, but not much besides writing, so the lighter machine would probably help. What kind of battery life does it get in real-world situations?
And yeah, my sister has spilled beer and coffee on hers...
Yeah...he's actually really good about his computers, and he doesn't drink, so I'm not sure what happened here (unlike my sister, who's poor abused machine has been through more than it ever deserved to be). Ordinarily, I would just give him back his original laptop, which I fixed after...
So today I got the following email.
After I regained control from laughing hysterically, I determined that the chances of resurrecting his current machine after that are virtually nonexistent, and theres no chance in hell Apple will touch it for repairs. So, as he's going off to Scotland for...
That's she, actually, and she's not royalty, so I'm not too worried about getting cursed ;)
Here's another recent shot, taken during ROTC exercises in the area. It doesn't look it, but with wind chill it was below zero.
The RED Scarlet is supposed to be under $3,000 whenever it's released, but that's a bare-bones system. If you want to expand it's functionality, you'll need peripherals, which don't come cheap. At the minimum, you'll need an external mic, since I understand the Scarlet doesn't come with one...
Sounds like a common problem. If you're running a 32-bit operating system, the computer will be unable to address more than 2.5GB of RAM. To use the rest, go to XP or Vista 64-bit.
I'm with Ockie on this one. I've never had a bad experience at a Genius bar...hell, I had a guy write off $600 of damage to a friends 17" MBP because they forgot to give her a call. I've got no personal experience with the water sensors, but if it's in the headphone jack, that strikes me as...
Check out the Twitter feed on the front page of the blog...not taking sides on whether it's a publicity gambit or real, but it still seems to be going on.
Text received: can I call u? response: I guess who r u? received:Karen response:k. Talked with her twice that day. Tearful, frightened...
Well, problem solved. I have no idea how or why, but by trying another Vista x64 disk, it installed without a problem on the same settings. Regardless, she's up and running smooth as could be. I'll get some pictures after finals are over.
Well, this has me stumped. Right now I have the entire computer set up. I'd like to run two sets of disks in RAID 0. The boot drive is a pair of 32GB SSDs, and the game drive is a pair of 300GB Velociraptors. My optical drive is a Samsung model as seen here...
Fantastic, that's the last of the components I needed. I went with a Ultra 120 Extreme from CrazyPC. Cost me a bit extra, but I appreciate the lapping service. That's not something I'd be doing ordinarily. Be interesting to see what kind of temps I get on that heat sink.
And @ GLSauron, yeah...
I was torn on the 4870--I've had good experience with ATi in the past, going back to a 9800 Pro that still sees use today, and I've seen consistently higher benchmarks from the 4800 series card on the games I tend to play. But ultimately it came down to the fact that newegg had a black friday...
No to hijack the thread, but that actually looks strikingly similar to the build I just ordered. Just for comparison, I went with the following:
TJ07 ($360)
i7 920 ($300)
Thermalright Ultra Extreme 120 ($75)
P6T Deluxe ($300)
4870X2 ($490)
Thermaltake 1200W PSU ($370)
Auzentech X-Fi...
I'm lusting after the Mk.II, since my 10D is really starting to show it's age, but a new laptop is higher on my list of priorities, and after that it'll be a few years before I can start thinking about a new camera.
In this case, I don't think there's as much concern about groups producing drugs that are past the IP cutoff. At that point the formula is in public hands. There is a very real concern about groups producing drugs of an illegal nature, either because of property rights or laws. Without the exact...
Hmmm, let's see...things I want from the 17" model. Relevant, since I'm planning on getting one. QX9300, or a Tier 1 GPU. Having both is a pipe dream, since it would crank out too much heat. A 9800M GT would be nice, but at 65W is probably way too much heat, considering the 9600M GT only...
I was pretty disappointed with the clean end of the game too...anyone found Oasis yet? Far north of the map on the right side. I can't wait for the Mod community to take off on this. Oblivion had some spectacular overhauls done to it, I'm expecting people are already working on expansions to add...
I'll be watching this story to see how it develops. While it is tragic, I agree with an earlier comment that most 15 year old kids should be well able to take care of themselves. Not sure who this kid met or what happened to result in this.
Hi all,
I have a Core Duo MacBook Pro running at 2.16Ghz (planning on upgrading to a 17" model in January). I'm running Boot Camp with Leopard and Vista 32. I'ts been going just fine for months now. Yesterday I booted into Windows and noticed a significant slowdown with the processor running...
I'm inclined to say it also depends on the store. I've been to Apple retail stores in Richmond, VA, and Jacksonville, FL. Richmond I've never been impressed with. I pointed out some cracking on the my iPhone, so they took it into the back and looked at it in the dark, came back out and said they...
It looks like this is going to work perfectly over afp. We both have MacBook Pros, so I just whipped up a shared account that doesn't have access to the rest of my files and emailed it over to him. Thanks for the help everyone :)
