There are just too many subjective variables to say one is definitively better than the other for many of the aforementioned use cases.
FW900 has awesome contrast, yet so many LCDs murder it in ANSI contrast. Which one makes more of a difference? Probably depends on the content? Probably...
Even if you compare the FW900 to whatever LCD you can't say it's categorically better. LCDs are certainly sharper for one, yet CRTs have their aforementioned strengths as well.
As with any long-running "which is better" discussion, it really only comes down to how the individual person values...
I believe the 2090UXi was the only 4:3 NEC with A-TW. There used to be this link on Google that listed all monitors with A-TW when I searched something like "monitors with a-tw polarizer" but it doesn't show up in search results anymore -_-
blow some cash on the PSU..read reviews and get something that's practically reference. it'll outlast the rest of your build and be worth it in the long run.
what is commonly referred to as 'dynamic contrast' = cheating, but local dimming = awesome. anyway last i checked (few months) smallest local dimming set was 50" and over a grand.
Only if "backlit" = "local dimming" else NEC's still has the polarizer.
I really would like to see local dimming in computer monitors, but the smallest thing i've seen w/ that is 50" lol.
You know what it is if you have one. I'm going to bump this thread every so often until I get one.
Here marks the beginning of my crusade! :D (lol i'm expecting this thread will be going for quiiiite some time)
If doing this manually with CONCATENATE() is more of a pain in the @ss (due to frequency or number of files or whatever) than writing some code.. enter the wonders of the .xlsx format! Instead of having to use some (almost always heavy) library to do your excel stuff, simply unzip your *.xlsx...
If you're up for more than a weekend project you could make your own housing for the LCD panel.
That's actually something I've always wanted to do.. make an ultra thin enclosure with *just* the panel in it and move all the other circuitry somewhere else like mounted under my desk or something...
The marketing peoples' job is to improve the bottom line..so if 16:9 is replacing 16:10 i'm sure they're doing it for a good reason and i'm betting we're just not a big enough market segment to justify producing 16:10.
Funny thing is i can't think of a 16:9 vs 16:10 debate that wasn't talking...
LP2480zx *is* pretty cool looking since it's got RGB LEDs and i hear the sRGB mode isn't half bad (maybe the color space is *actually* changed with the R,G,B diodes rather than doing some magic/emulation with the LCD's subpixels) but i /do/ remember reading somewhere (i think this forum even)...
gah! that very well may have been the one i was looking at. was it the listing where someone asked a question to confirm the model? (that it was in fact WUXi and not WUXi2)
I was between the ebay NEC and an Eizo FS2331 from buy.com..ended up going with the Eizo so I could return if I didn't...
For personal/home use I like 16:9 just because the black bars are smaller on movies.
At work I prefer 16:10 (at least when we're talking 24") for more workspace. It's true I could just have more 16:9, but at a certain point I spend more time organizing my windows and spinning around to find...
Few things we need to know before we can give the best working solution:
1. Is it only files you care about? Or do you want software/sysconfig stuff syncd as well?
2. Do you need access to the VM even when network connection isn't available?
Gah, what I figured >_<. I actually saw a WUXi on ebay a while back for ~7-800.. currently kicking myself for not having bought it at the time.
I must admit part of the reason I made this thread was to reach the post limit for 'For Sale/Trade' so I can "WTB 2490WUXi" (funny I've been here...
PVA shift kills me (at least on the cpva eizo fs2311), TN kills me (goes without saying), and IPS glow kills me.
I've got IPS right now (2007wfp and ea231wmi) but I want to upgrade and the only thing that has everything I'm looking for is IPS with A-TW.
I know about the LP2480zx and...
Check out LinuxLive:
http://www.linuxliveusb.com/
Its purpose is to have a bootable live linux with persistence (which may not be anything you care about) but the cool thing is it lets you run whatever distro you have on there as a VM.
I would take a look at what they use there--some kind...
the best all-rounder is probably still the 2490wuxi since its the cheapest ips with a-tw you can get..but GL finding one, they don't even make a-tw anymore. even then you've only got ~700:1 contrast so bleh.
all *VA aren't the same either, MVA like in the new benq's have more gamma shift than...
i found a video review of this on youtube. it's in german but pretty straightforward so you can see what's going on. it's 720p so pretty high res, and gives as good a look as possible at motion blur w/o actually sitting in front of the monitor yourself.
i went ahead and got one of these off...
Well I bought a 2005FWP and of course it had horrible back light bleeding. I did this with one layer of tape (I actually overlapped the black part a little bit, making sure that the tape didn't get onto the visible screen by test fitting the bezel on the screen as I was applying the tape just...
Well i didnt'e ven read any of this thing since i just drank a pint of scotch and a bottle of champagne since my friend is about to go to iraq (hes in the military) but all i have to say is that its about time for good 'ol processors to get past 4GHz because it was forever ago that there was...
Maybe ill just make the xbox into a XBMC and put it on some normal TV. It's either that or making some kind of server out of the xbox.. I just don't know what..
Rather than waiting for Dell's next model to let us down again, I'd just eBay a 2005FPW. (err, well that is actually what I did..) It's GUARANTEED to have the same IPS panel that the 2007WFP features, and comes with no banding issues to boot!
Some of them do have problems with backlight...
I've got an old Xbox and PS2 just laying around, and am trying to put these things to some kind of use (seriously, I badly need a few more devices to suck electricity and make my power bill higher..)
Anyway, I did some looking and it seems that two popular options are to turn the xbox into a...
