The minimum recommended PSU for a gtx 260 is 550w with a 36amp 12v rail. If he has anything more than a gtx 250 or 4770 in there he's under powered.
An antec 480w with a 37amp 12v rail wouldn't power my sons overclocked e8400 with HD4850.
Yup, could be your psu. 34amps on 12v rails is bare minimum for your setup and depending on what type of graphics card you have it may not be nearly enough.
Also, If those crappy Intel push pin mounted heat sinks aren't locked down properly the system won't boot up. You need to make sure all...
I have a HTPC in a SFF case with a 230w PSU and I'm running an Asus 9500GT 512MB DDR3 card with a old AMD socket 939 micro mobo, AMD X2 3800, 2 gigs DDR 400 and BlueRay DVD player. Every time I turn it on I'm amazed that everything powers up, lol...
I hear ya PliotronX, I keep telling myself I need a new GPU but my 8800GTX just keeps going strong - 4xAA / 16xAF with all of my games on a 22" Acer monitor. (crysis at 1400 x 1050, 2xAA).
I don't think anybody considering upgrading should go with a 256-bit, 512MB card at this point. we are...
I have an XFX 8800GTX (not the xxx version) and my max temp reaches 85c also - that's normal. The fan runs at 60% until card reaches 85c then it revs up as needed to keep the card from getting any hotter.
I've never seen my fan speed go above 78% and max temp never goes above 86c.
I...
Same here, I game at 1280 x 1024 and my X1900XT is still able handle all of my games at high settings except for crysis of course.
The 8800GT's is a great card at a good price but in my case, I can't justify upgrading just to get better performance in one game.
But if you have a buyer...
The 1950 pro is definitely faster at stock speeds than the 7900GS but the 1950 has very little overclocking headroom. Most 7900 cards will allow huge overclocks which will make up for the performance difference between the two cards.
So if you are comfortable with overclocking then I would go...
Why are you using 3DMark 2001?
It doesn't even test most of the features that your card supports since they weren't available when that benchmark was created.
That old benchmark is probably very CPU dependent which would account for the higher scores when oc'ing the CPU.
Try using 2005.
I have the sapphire one in my spare gaming system so I was wanting to know also since I'm considering putting it into to my HTPC system.
I found this info:
You can see the entire feature set of the Radeon X1650 PRO below.
Ultra Threaded Shader Engine
Support of DirectX9 Programmable...
Newegg's listing states that the Sapphire 1650 pro supports AVIVO.
Features
Vista Ready Yes
Features Microsoft DirectX 9.0 Shader Model 3.0
Avivo Technology Smoothvision HD + Adaptive AA
Didn't see anything about HD content or decoder...
Yeah, but that doesn't do us any good over here in the USA since it isn't available here.
My AGP rig can handle a faster card and I would be willing to spend the cash instead of upgrading my whole rig.
@ branchy33
97.02 is not the only driver for the 8800 cards.
There is another Forceware version out 96.89 - you should try those and see if they are better.
If it's AGP the I think 150 is probably fair.
If pci-e then definately go for a 7600GT or 7900GS which would also be in that price range and give much better performance.
