I just picked up a 1030 as I'm moving to our off-grid place in a few weeks. It's on its way from Amazon, should be here early next week. I'm moving sideways from a GTX460 that uses 160w, vs the GT1030 @ 30w :ROFLMAO:
When the new cards come out I'll pick something in the lower end range that...
There are a handful of rigs for sale in my local Kijiji... One listing had 4 rigs made up of 50 cards. I think it's almost time to start sending these guys lowball offers on single cards. You know, just to prepare them for the eventual :p
lol. Ahhh, those were the days. I'm just waiting waiting waiting.... I've noticed prices are starting to come down. I can basically pay MSRP for a used card now.
I'd buy a card from a miner without much concern. I would, however, want to either personally inspect the board or see high res pictures to look for any unusual heat markings. I probably wouldn't buy it online unless from here with heat, so I'd request to see it running as well.
I'm looking...
I have a 12yo nephew who is super into PCs, which is awesome. I'd give it to him. And then probably scoure the buy and and sell here as well as Kijiji for a poor miner selling a 1070 at a reasonable price.
Mine should be delivered today, got an EVGA GTX 460 for $135 CAD over the holiday.
Will be overclocking, and from this thread looks like I should be pushing 800/1700/1000 pretty easily. Sweet! I'm pretty excited as I'm coming from an 8800gt 512mb.
Wait two weeks for another paycheck. Then buy the 4850. Tell the wife you'd like to add a dollar a day for the next two weeks.
That being said, I only very rarey cross my wife. She is my limit maker as well, otherwise I would have many stupid things I really don't need.
Edit: lol...
I don't feel dumb, and I didn't pay $300. I've had a great time editing photos and gaming with my E8400 for a few months. Think of all the money I could have wasted because my productivity would be down using a slower CPU because I waited five months to get a cheap processor.
I'm not saying...
I know many of you have 8800GTs and had bad temps. Lots of people went dual slot or aftermarket.
My PC being outside (look at my other threads) during the winter, temps weren't an issue for me. It's starting to get warmer now, so I've had to re-evaluate my 24/7 setup. I had seen several...
It's really not that tedious; install two things and copy a file - big deal. I was comparing the process to superpi or doing stress testing, where you basically push go and watch.
I was just commenting from the extremely lazy point of view :p
Which is also why I didn't reboot and drop the...
I decided why not. A bit tedious (when used to just 'open-install-bench'), but I'm bored. But not bored enough to take my E8400 down to stock.

Seriously? I am pretty happy with my TRUE 120, but if I could drop my temps another 3-6 degrees just by switching fans (I have the S12) that would be great.
For me it is hard to determine what voltage I'm actually at. CPUZ, Speedfan, and CPUID HW Monitor all say my CPU Core voltage is 1.25v, but in BIOS I've set it to 1.318. If this is the case, I still have a ways to go before 1.3625. But if we're going by the BIOS setting, I'm nearly at my max...
He mentions the batches, and I happen to have one the same batches, Q745A. I am definitely not going to touch 1.4v anytime soon now. Just makes me glad I didn't try for a max overclock yet.
eVGA 8800GT, stock bios, oldschool cooling, using Rivatuner
729 core
1849 shader
987 memory
I don't know what the max for the memory is as I've heard all sorts of rumours about memory dying when clocked at ~1000 or over. Figured I'd play it safe.
EDIT: Okay, after searching a bit...
Yeah I know, I'm a cheater... I am actually at 49C now, after running Orthos Small FFT for an hour and 5 minutes. I expect a few degrees drop when the weather cools down again.
What ram do you have? I'm using a 2x multi so I have a 1:1 FSB:RAM ratio, but I think I'll have to loosen up the...
I agree. I just picked up an E8400, right now it's at 3.9ghz at 1.225v. Annihilates my E4400 at 2.9ghz at 1.4v. Sure it's only .175 volts, but it's less heat, less voltage, and more speed. Where's the downside?
Just because of the questionable temp reading? I can't argue with 900mhz and .125 volts increase. I am nowhere near my personal max (of 1.4v) and close to the "average" OC of 4ghz. I'm 63C away from the delta to max so I have a way to go.
Nenu: I will probably attempt to hit a max clock...
Well I figured I'd update this thread again with some more useful information.
I am now at 3.9ghz with a vcore of 1.25 (picked cause it seemed like enough steps to be stable).
Coretemp, speedfan, and CPUID Hardware Monitor are all now reporting a RISE in temp as I load the CPU. What threw...
I have the same problem and made a thread here: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1269707
So it seems all we can do is hope and wait for some sort of software/bios fix then. I am going to trust Speedfan because it coincides with my BIOS reading.
Thanks. I just got the beta, 4.34 b38, and temps are still reading 10C.
Core 0 says 30, Core 1 says 30, never changes.
Interestingly, I tried coretemp .95.4, and instead of a Tjunction of 105, it reads 100. My core temps are 30 instead of 35. So 5C decrease in Tjunction and core temp...
Alright, it seems crazy, but I am going to go with the Speedfan temps. The reason is that I am now at 3.7ghz (1.175V), and the load temp is now 10C... scary! :p
But at least the temp is going up with increased clocks, right? I really hope some sort of software/bios fix comes out for this...
What is everyone else using/what version to test temps of E8400.
My box is outside with good airflow. It's currently -3C outside.
I haven't even overclocked yet, and at stock settings this is what I'm seeing:
Coretemp .96.1: 35C no matter what
Speedfan 4.33: -2C idle, 7C load...
Hey, what are you guys using/what version to test temps?
My box is outside, currently -3C outside.
At stock, 3ghz:
Coretemp .96.1 = 35C no matter what
Speedfan 4,33 = -2C idle, 7C load
Everest = doesn't show idle, 7C load
Is it actually running this cold? My old E4400 would run at...
I looked at the picture. I don't really expect a few scratches will eliminate electrical contact. It may look ugly but unless those scratches are DEEP and a lot of material is removed I would suspect it should be fine. I don't think the little plastic cover is hard enough to do that. If...
Thanks Mark. I've been doing a lot of poking around, checking what other people's OCs have been, and would be completely satisfied with 4ghz :p. Heck, even if I couldn't overclock at all, it'd be a bit quicker than my E4400 which happens to be a juice hungry heat monster. My intent with this...
Right. Well thanks anyway. I checked my e4400 box and didn't see anything about the VID (or the same #) so I assumed that it was not there for the Wolfdales, but who knows, Intel could have changed their stickers since people seem to be paying more attention to VID now.
I might be picking up an E8400 locally today. Is there any way I can check the VID before buying? Is it displayed anywhere on the packaging?
If I do buy one I'll post OC screens later... I'm mostly just not looking forward to taking the damn heatsink off and putting it back on again.
lapping heatsinks is a whole different monster than cpus. It is MUCH harder to keep flat because you're dealing with a much taller object. To keep an object that is basically 'flat' flat while lapping, a minimal, even, pressure is applied. But when you're dealing with something 10cm+ tall, it...
unfortunately I can't search so I hope this question hasn't been asked. I did a quick google search and didn't come up with anything.
I just installed Core Temp .96.1, coming from .95.4, rest of specs are in sig.
On .95.4, my load temps were approximately 50C. When I switched to .96.1...
It's not unique to quads, I have an E4400 (which happens to be voltage hungry) at 3ghz with the bios set at 1.5v. CPUZ shows 1.456 idle, 1.440 load. So while I don't have much load voltage drop, I have a huge inconsistency between bios and CPUZ. It's like this with whatever bios I try. I've...
Falls... riiiiiight. I should have said that I have a balcony. There is no way in HELL that I'd hang my PC from a window. Jeez!
I am in North York, I go to YorkU. I also thought about the rain/wind/snow deal. I have a cardboard box around it (not much I know), and the Antec case I have...
