I have a Dell 1409X that I used for this same purpose, had some great backyard movie nights on a 12' inflatable screen. The one I have was a replacement from insurance after the original was stolen. It has been barely used (less than 20 hours) since I got it 6 years ago. Displayed HD movies no...
I just have to say that I am a bit surprised at the "outrage" at the performance numbers. Real-time ray tracing has been the holy grail of rendering since the 90s. The fact that we have this at all in a package that fits an everymans computer at a relatively reasonable price point is absolutely...
Lots of the ones to convert a usb device to PS/2, but the ones to convert a PS/2 to USB were always kinda tough to get to work right. I am sure I have one more left that converts a PS/2 keyboard and mouse to USB, but like I said I wouldn't trust it.
I am cleaning out my parts closet a bit more, and have a bunch of cables and adapters available for the cost of shipping them. Especially for older systems using serial, parallel, and ps/2 adapters, I have a bunch.
Power cables, ethernet cables, vga/dvi/hdmi, power adapters of all kinds. Floppy...

SOLD WD Red 4TB drives $90 each shipped (3 left) - warranty good until mid-2019
SOLD WD Red 4TB drives $85 each shipped (1 left) - out of warranty
All of the drives worked perfectly when I pulled them out of my FreeNAS/Plex server...
I might have this...I have a latitude I was going to post this weekend for sale, unsure as to the model though. I will check tonight.
EDIT: I upgraded the CPU, 8gb memory, and put a 1tb hard drive in last night and am installing windows 10 pro. Was planning to sell relatively cheap. This got me...
WD 3TB Red NAS hard drives. For the most part these are 2-3 years old and have some warranty left. I am the original owner, and they were originally purchased from Newegg and are not shucked drives. Upgraded these so no longer need.
Asking $75 each including shipping to CONUS, but will...
Anyone have an Alpha they don't use anymore? Looking for something to replace my HTPC that gave up the ghost after 10+ years.
Not concerned about specs so much as that it works and isn't expensive. Would also consider something else that is of similar format.
Also looking for:
2TB Crucial...
Wow and I thought I was the only one who held onto old hardware. I still have my Voodoo 2 SLI rig and GeForce 2 Ultra only because they were so expensive back in the day I can't bring myself to get rid of them lol.
Looking for 4x4GB DDR3 1333/1600 Desktop Memory, don't care about brand as long as it works. Will be drop shipping to my daughter.
I can get this off Newegg for $100, but I am hoping someone has some they no longer need and are willing to sell on the cheap.
EDIT: all the drives are gone now.
==================
I am cleaning out my parts closet in advance of my 23rd Annual Closet Cleanout Sale, and have run across some old hard drives that aren't really worth selling, but I hate to just throw away.
I am offering them for free, just pay the $8...
Iowa is a leading producer of wind energy, there are huge windmill farms all over the state. Des Moines is a fairly large city with a lot of tech and money rolling through it due to all of the insurance companies. I think it's a good move.
^^^ Some people will never shop at Amazon or Walmart, and will go out of their way to support local mom and pops. As I posted earlier, shops like those aren't ever going to become anything other than what they are, but most small business owners will tell you that's exactly why they do it. There...
So absolutely true ^^^ I couldn't even tell you how many times people complained that I wouldn't sell them a computer for my cost. Like what about my time and expertise, do I not get paid for that? Nope.
I've run several IT related businesses over the years, and I can confirm that it just simply isn't worth it unless you have the passion for it and don't mind breaking even.
In 1997 I opened a LAN center, way ahead of its time especially in the area I lived in. 32 computers, full almost every...
I had the 680i and it indeed was a spawn of Satan...I ended up with a free upgrade to the 780i and I have been running a home theater system on that for 10 years now. Didn't trust it for anything other than that, but it still works!
I remember during all the problems with the EVGA 780i SLI motherboard and it being very finicky with the memory you put in it; at the time Corsair seemed to be the only memory manufacturer that went the extra mile to validate which sets worked. Made me a lifelong customer.
I am in the same boat as you...what it boils down to is most of the speed increase you will see is going to come from platform updates (faster SSD, memory, USB, etc). In that case, may as well wait for Skylake-X and get the best overall platform you can, since it will likely be another 3-4 years...
Heh, I just bought the 1080, and I skipped my last platform upgrade because college is not cheap.
I haven't really hit any walls per se, but I used to be a bleeding edge adopter so having the same computer for 3 years makes it feel ancient.
I think I have decided to wait until Black Friday and...
Pfft, I got 600 and some odd years the first quick math I did and figured that was off, so I did it again and ended up being even more wrong.
Note to self: do not attempt math right after waking up.
