Poll: AMD RX 5700 Series vs NVidia RTX Super. Which gets your money?

Still waiting on something worth upgrading from my GTX 1070 that's around the $400 mark (probably the next generation after this) , but if I had no video card and had to buy something today I'd probably go with the 5700 XT.

    Are You Jumping Ship?

Yep I'm the same way. Went from 7950 to 1070. Almost felt kinda bad because the 7950 was a fantastic card that held up really well over the years, but I gotta have my 120Hz smoothness. I admit I'm a bit partial to AMD (being the underdog, and because my first build had a Radeon x1800xt) but I...

    Opions: Is 3D Gaming Dead?

I've played around a little bit with 3D when I got my 120 Hz monitor (23", 1080p, Samsung S23A700D w/active shutter glasses). For me it's a neat gimmick and something cool to show off to people for a few minutes, but I feel it doesn't really add much to the experience. TriDef3D didn't work...

    AMD Crimson Edition 16.5.2.1 Drivers

This driver has done wonders for my performance in Doom, even on my old 7950. It's actually playable on Ultra now, with 50-70 FPS (whereas before it was in the 30s and 40s). Very nice improvement (just kinda wish it made it a few days earlier, but I'm still playing through the singleplayer).

AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 15.11.1 Update

GPU-Z and Afterburner both report this driver version as 15.8 (9.14.10.01162), though Radeon Settings itself reports it as 15.30.1025.1001-151129a-2 which would seem to be correct. In any case, I wasn't really having any fan issues (though I have a manual fan curve set by Afterburner), though...

AMD Catalyst 15.7.1 Driver in now available. Includes support for Windows 10 upgrade!

I'm really impressed with this driver in Windows 10 (versus 15.7, which I had installed last night). I had two major issues: -Bluray disc playback in PowerDVD 14 was really wonky (would stop playing and/or crash when it went fullscreen) -Arkham Knight had a major performance regression compared...

Windows 10: Your thoughts so far?

You should be able to right click and select "Pin to start". It works on any folder, library, hard drive, etc. Here's my start menu with all my folder shortcuts set up:

Windows 10: Your thoughts so far?

I'm liking it so far, though there are a some niggling issues (mostly browser-related). Edge is really fast, but doesn't seem to work with Google Play Music (it just shows an empty page with the playback controls) which is a requirement for me. And like IE11 before it, it still doesn't use...

GTA 5 is a disaster on the 7970/280X

Yeah, there's a problem with MSAA, but it's certainly not the end of the world. With all the other settings cranked up I don't even have any VRAM (or performance) to spare on MSAA, so I leave it off anyway and just use FXAA. All in all I'm happy with how good it looks and how well it performs on...

    Dumb Choice?

But having a higher than 60 FPS framerate *does* make a difference on a 60 Hz monitor (as long as Vsync is off). A higher framerate will have more tearing, sure, but each small sliver of screen will show a more recent moment. Here's a very rough mockup: Imagine you're looking at a pole (black...

Resident Evil Remaster Pre-Order (PC) is $14.99 @ GMG

Yup, same with me. Always had credit card issues with them. Started using Paypal and haven't had any problems ever since with GMG. I'm tempted by the deal, but I beat it on the Gamecube a long time ago and I'm too big of a wuss to play through again :P

AMD Special Edition Driver: Catalyst Omega

Yeah, this caught me off guard. When I first installed these it installed CCC and the like but not the actual driver. I didn't realize that they had split 8.1 and 7 into separate files for this release. Lots of people on Reddit ran into this problem too. I mean it's simple enough to fix, but...

    Catalyst Omega

It appears that they are officially out. Listed as 14.12 on the downloads page. Downloading now. Edit: Oddly enough, the driver package installed, but the driver itself didn't. I did my usual process of simply uninstalling the old driver via Windows Programs and Features, reboot, and install...

    Sapphire R9 280x 1920x1200 Resolution Problem

My first thought was overscan as well - if not in the driver, then maybe in the monitor itself? You might look through the OSD for anything related to overscan (though this wouldn't really explain why it only happens with the AMD card). I also noticed even in your screenshots text looks...

MSI Radeon R9 285 GAMING OC Video Card Review @ [H]

Well, true, but it can max out just about anything at 1080p, so that's high end enough for me :p Regardless, it's powerful enough that it will be VRAM limited before it becomes processing-limited. One reasonably expects to run Watchdogs or Titanfall on Ultra settings with an R9 285, but it...

MSI Radeon R9 285 GAMING OC Video Card Review @ [H]

I'm kinda surprised how (relatively) well it does compared to the 280/7950. There really are architecture improvements; it's not just another rebadged/reconfigured 7950. Still, after playing Titanfall, WatchDogs, Wolfenstein: The New Order, Evolve (alpha), Star Citizen, etc. - I'd be very...

    AMD Radeon R9 285 Announced

I don't quite understand the point of this card. It seems slightly less powerful than the 7950/R9 280 (less memory bandwidth and less VRAM), for about the same price that I paid for my 7950 Boost over a year ago (and more expensive than the 280 is now at retail). Would probably be more...

What cable do I need for 144hz monitor?

You can use dual-link DVI or DisplayPort. Your monitor should come with an appropriate cable, and your video card can use either one, so you don't have to worry about the cable at all.

    Can't get a straight answer on 2GB vs 4GB for GTX 770

Using the highest texture quality in Watch_Dogs and Titanfall both use up to 3GB of VRAM at 1080p. A GTX 770 has plenty of power to run both of those maxed out. 2GB would artificially limit what settings you can run. My 7950 3GB actually still has major hitching and stuttering in Watch_Dogs...

Post your Titanfall Benchmarks and specs

4770k and HD 7950 (full specs in sig), running basically maxed out, 1080p, 4xMSAA, Vsync off. Game pretty much never drops below 60. You can see from the GPU usage graph that I still have a bit of wiggle room; I could get a bit over 60 if it weren't for the cap. It usually bounces around...

Titanfall - Respawn Entertainment's first game

As others have mentioned, there's the electric smoke (which is also really useful against titans). But you can also shoot missiles at a nearby wall and have the splash damage kill them, you can request a teammate to shoot it off, or you could plant arc mines on your Titan's back which will...

Titanfall - Respawn Entertainment's first game

I've had an absolute blast with the game. I love fast-paced twitch arena shooters, and the wall-running and jumping is crazy amounts of fun. Best MP game I've played in a really long time. I just really wish they'd fix the 60 fps cap (I know there are ways around it, but they come with their...

Does running more monitors tax GPU performance?

It actually can affect performance indirectly via power throttling. I've noticed on my 7950 Boost that in addition to running at higher idle clocks (500/1400 instead of 300/150), I run into more situations where it reaches the (+20%) power limit and starts throttling the core clock, when it...

OFFICIAL: Catalyst 14.1 Specific Installation / Support / Issues Feedback Thread

I have this too - I usually run my secondary monitor off of my HD 4600, but Star Swarm and BF4 both crash instantly if I try to run Mantle while it's enabled. Disable the iGPU and everything works fine. Hopefully just a temporary driver bug.

Can i upgrade my academic engineering version of windows?

MSDNAA copies are considered (as far as the key is concerned) full retail boxed copies. They can be transferred to a new computer (assuming it's deleted off the old computer first) and of course, used to upgrade.

    (XFX) R7 240 at 120hz DVI-D?

From what I can find, the DVI port on that card (and all R7 240's, as far as I can tell) is only single link. It won't support 120 Hz mode.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance - Steam, January 9, 2014

Yeah I know, but a guy can dream right? :p Even a port of Bayonetta 1 would be very welcome. MGR:R is currenty #2 on the Steam top selling list, which is a good sign: Hopefully the sales are good enough that Konami/Platinum continue developing/porting to PC.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance - Steam, January 9, 2014

This is honestly one of my most anticipated games of the year, especially after seeing Chip & Ironicus' Let's Play of it (especially stuff like the first boss fight (21:14 through 22:52)). I love third person action games in the vein of Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, Darksiders, etc. and want to see...

BF4 - Antialiasing Post - Yay or Nay - Vote and Discuss

Exactly - to me, FXAA is the lesser of two evils. I can either have slightly blurrier textures, or much more distracting (to me) shader and transparency aliasing. MSAA-only is distracting enough to take me out of the game. And BF4's FXAA implementation isn't terrible (like, say, Crysis 2). I...

BF4 - Antialiasing Post - Yay or Nay - Vote and Discuss

I'm really conflicted on the issue - I don't like that PostAA blurs textures, but (especially on tree-full levels) the vegetation is distractingly "speckled" with it disabled. See this comparison: MSAA Only: http://i1.minus.com/iEawSz6FZIJJ3.png (trees' leaves look ugly and distracting) FXAA...

    Battlefield 4 **Official Discussion Thread**

Yeah, I'm not sure whether to do Post AA or not. It does blur the textures some, but MSAA alone leaves all the trees and leaves and stuff looking ugly. Compare: (notice my FPS in the upper right too) MSAA only: http://i1.minus.com/iEawSz6FZIJJ3.png (notice the "speckling" in the trees) PostAA...

    Windows 8.1 update

Sadly, I've had nothing but problems with 8.1. 1. "Secureboot isn't configured correctly" watermark. No Microsoft, having Secureboot (purposely) disabled is not the same as "not configured correctly". 2. Intel HD 4600 no longer works - After a lot of troubleshooting, it seems to be a...

Now that we have the boot to desktop option. Are you using windows 8.1?

Well, I'm *using* 8.1, though whether I like it or not is debatable. I've used Start8 forever now so I could always boot straight to desktop and have a proper start menu, so none of that bothered me before or now. So 8.1 pretty much doesn't do anything for me except now I have an annoying...

    Windows 8.1 update

Edit: there may be issues with this method; see post below mine. Like (apparently) a lot of other people, I had the "SecureBoot isn't configured correctly" watermark on my desktop. Oddly though, SecureBoot was enabled in the EUFI bios (Gigabyte Z87X-UD4H mobo), though right underneath it it...

    Are the R9's 3.0 PCIe?

Yes, they're going to be 3.0. Every 7000 series card (7730 and up) also uses 3.0. AMD's website is (surprisingly) not the best place to find info on AMD card specs - see this thread - they're filled to the brim with typos and weirdness. I've always liked Wikipedia's big "Comparison of Graphics...

Call of Duty Ghosts system requirements.

Now with next gen consoles all being Blu-Ray, 50GB (the storage of a single dual-layer disc) is gonna probably be the standard size for games. In this case, probably for much higher res textures, and less-compressed 1080p FMV (since consoles have 1080p now too, they can't get away with shitty...

Crysis 3 - "Ultra" Graphics Settings Missing

Nah it's definitely still there: Are you sure you weren't playing Crysis 2? That game (unpatched) only has 3 quality modes (up to "Extreme"), and only after the big DX11 patch adds the option for Ultra settings. Edit: Er, oh yeah I guess it isn't literally called "Ultra", even though it's...
