my problem with this board was it shorting against the case try running it without it being bolted into the case with something insulating the back of the board
the bottom of the caps on this board stick out miles does my nut in
u guys over in the us should think yourselves lucky here in rip off britain we gota pay close to $370 usd for a 8800gt just now
and i thought finally a good card for a good price to get rid of my aging badly since crysis demo 6800gt damn u crytek . guess i gota wait till the amd pulls...
i think the diff between mine and yours is your using quad core im only on dual less power draw so more able to clock . a good tip ive been told which helps me overclock a wee bit further is to put a heat sink on the power regulators just next to the socket it does let me push higher with this board
if the boards dead it should still be under asus w'tee 12 months u get. not a major overhaul just a board swap i had one die on me and had to get it replaced no problems since. and for your sake i hope its just the board and it hasnt taken more stuff down with it.
sounds like a cap mighta...
In sure and certain hope of the resurrection to eternal life through our Lord Jesus Christ, we commend to Almighty God our brother P5N-E SLI; and we commit his body to the ground; earth to earth; ashes to ashes, dust to dust. The Lord bless him and keep him, the Lord make his face to shine upon...
anyone else feel amd is handing us a shitty stick and telling us its chocolate?
have to agree they are doing it purely to appeal to noobs 90% of the market unfortunatly.
the major system builders will lap it up as a great marketing tool 'WOW get 3 cores for the price of 2'
the enthusiasts...
have to say i went to vista 64bit abt 3 weeks ago and i am a whisker away from dumping my xp install from dual boot
everything so far is working faster and more reliably and the only problem an 8 year old webcam doesnt work with it yeah i know the hardship lol all my software and games run...
prob the bios version asus has released a newer version which i think addresses g0 stepping support version 703
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
only problem ive found with the new bios is theres a fsb hole around the 400 mark now
had the same board for over 6 months with e6600 running @ 300fsb with ddr 400 had no problems with the board i just stuck the voltage setting to high and the memory to 333 in the bios
once it was clocked to 300fsb for cpu the dividers took the memory to 390mhz and i ran 24/7 rock solid...
poss the board is earthing on the case you could try the board outa the case or put something non conductive between the board and case motherboard tray
bah bios 703 has bloody fsb holes previous bios would happily run @ 1600 fsb 703 wont run,
either 1500 or 1650+ no problems tho so beware if you want to run 1600fsb leave 703 well alone
all my problems with the board disapeared when i put the nb voltage up to 1.59v after that the board just overclocked like a bitch lol and all those intermittant sound/ lan failures went away.
but have to admit i am on mobo no 2 first one just died totally plus remember the voltage droop on...
the board hates high fsb used to have the 775vsta and run my e6600 with it most i could hit 100% stable was 300fsb the way i used to get around its problems was to set the memory to 333mhz and then overclocked it would hit about 390mhz even with the board on async with memory on high volts drop...
use driver cleaner and rip out all the old drivers from nvidia and ati sounds like your getting conflict in the drivers , i got similar sort of stuff when i went from gf4 to 9800 pro in the past nvidia and ati drivers dont play well together run driver cleaner and then reboot and reinstall ati...
tuniq tower is a great heat sink but be warned i had to modify both my case and the retention bracket of the heat sink to get it to fit in the proper orientation ie blowing out the back of case. and my case is the xaser 3 so not a small puppy
me i am in the same boat personally i am hangin fire till the new refresh due new nvidia gfx card is supposed to be 3x the power of current top gen which for us students means the middle of the road should reduce in price and increase in power lol 8800gts for 1/2 the price now sounds nice lol
dude listen to the guys i can run my week 30 e6600 @ 4ghz+ if i had better cooling but my mates e6600 strugles to hit 3.2 ghz even with heavy volts can manage 2.9 with stock volts i can hit 3.4 @ stock and run 3.6 with 1.35v 24/7 on air and his e6600 is only 2 months old.
me i would wait and...
first pc p120 2 days later it was a 166mhz lol then along came the celeron 300a which i ran @ 600mhz what a chip then everything was amd until core2 lol now me is in love with intel again
mine was also being a pain when first installed was doing something similar and then i found it was shorting out against the case i took it out of case and it booted fine when just on a anti static bag i just insulated a couple of points on the board near the cpu on the rear of the board and no...
nice case choice would maybe look at the tuniq tower or thermalright 120 ultra for heatsinks tho will most likey give u better temps than the zalman and u can change the fan if it fails lol
have to say just coz i am picky lol Scotland is part of the UK unfortunatly lol and i am a wee bity peeved our american cousins only ever consider england or to be more accurate think england is the UK
and yes before you ask i am a scottish nationalist lol
had mine for abt 2 months now first one died after 1 week but the 2nd one is very stable and overclockable on bios 0608. have to say tho it does run a bit toasty on the northbridge if u dont put some active coolin on it
been using it for abt a day now seems to be more stable as far as memory timing go have been able to really tighten my timings up and still running 24hrs later while under 100% load with boinc and dont seem to need as much voltage to the nb to get 100% stability
have to say my week 30 6600 will do 3.6 with a tiny bump in volts upto 1.37v with 1.5v thru it can hit 4ghz never went any higher as im on air but with stock volts i can run @ 3.4ghz and keep my temps under control.
i do think the earlier weeks seems to overclock better my mates 6600 bought 2...
well i know my 6800gt is an older card but i hit the same problem with my tagan 480w is was made just before they started putting on the pci express power plugs i have the same splitter ur gonna use and i just connnected both to 1 wire with 2xmolex on it so that they both come from the same...
have to agree with Pepsiennis get a better heat sink and check that airflow artic freezer7 is a cheap heatsink and will perform many times better than the stock 1 not that the stock 1 is all that bad.
but yeah some mobo's run hotter than others this p5n-e sli i use does increase temps in the...
those temps are way high im sitting overclocked to 3.37ghz on stock volts with a thermaltake big typhoon with antec formula 5 and im only hitting 60oC according to coretemp @ full load even when i ran the stock cooler @ stock settings i would idle at 35oC and full load was 48oC to 50oC all on a...
hey i can hit 3.4ghz with my week 30 e6600 on stock 4ghz @ 1.45 volts but ive been hearing the later weeks dont hit as high but to hit 3 ghz most core2 should hit it with ease so if the extra cache is a thing u want just go for the cheapest chip with 4megs, 3ghz is an easy hit
if u bought this mobo for overclocking u made a mistake moderate overclocks with bad memory dividers.
u got it set abt as high as that baby is gonna go i had ddr400 running on this mobo before i changed mobo had to set fsb in bios mem options to 166 to get it to run @ 395 effective u already...
me and my bro have this board for over 3 months now he's running a e6400 and im running a e6600 he can hit 320fsb with his me i can run 304fsb with a pci express 6800gt with ddr 400. i can tell u if u dont have alot of cash or are looking to use alot of older tech it dont get much better as...
a simple solution for me when i was running agp on this board was to up voltage in the bios to high for agp and mem and increase the agp aperture to 128megs and i know this is gonna sound mad but up the pci ecpress bus speed from 100mhz to 117mhz this all got my 9800pro very stable however i do...
i own a e6600 and a asrock dual vsta and i can tell u if you overclocking most i can get it abt 305 to 309 fsb works out abt 2.7 to 2.7 and odds its a very stable systm that will let you upgrade peice meal , i am am changing the mobo and memory mobo to abit 680i mobo and going with 4 gigs of...
