Wow, that's quite a drop in temps. I'm not as lucky as you since my board didn't come with an extra slot. I guess the only way to find out is to remove the card and test it out.
ooops, i forgot to mention the temps.
Temp (Everest Ultimate & Rivatuner) :
GPU diode - 60-61C (fan spinning @ 70%)
Temp while playing Company of Heroes:
63C max
I just worry about the VGA temp 'cause the rest of the temps are pretty good.
HD - 32C (surfing net)
CPU - 34C
Guys,
I have an Audigy 2 card sitting right next to my 8800GTS with very little gap in between and i'm not sure if this can contribute to the high temp on the 8800GTS. I don't really mind removing the sound card if its gonna bring down the temp by 5C at least.
Lol, i used some ties also to attached the rear fan. I still chose the Corsair over other PSU because of the good reviews all over the net and it has a 5 year warranty.
The Cisco Kid,
This is what i did to my SG01. I have the two top 80mm fans exhausting, 2 80mm intakes ( one for the HD and the other one blowing directly to my video card) and last another 80mm fan mounted at the back of my PSU which helps exhausting the heat. It's a ghetto mod, but it works...
Can i overclock the E4300 to a E6400 speed with the Gigabyte 965GM-S2 motherboard? If so, do i need DDR2-800 ram or DDR2-667 is good enough? Sorry, i'm a noob.
Guys,
What ram should i get for light overclocking with the E4300 and Gigabyte 965GM-S2 (matx) motherboard?
I want to get into overclocking stuff, but just wanna do it lightly and not to the extreme. I have no experience also on this subject.
I know the motherboard has limitations on...
Wow, that thing is really small for a tower case. I wonder if any of the flower heatsink can fit in there. The front 120mm fans can blow the exhausted air from the flower heatsink towards the back vent. This thing will look pretty nice on any desk for sure.
So anything i should know before installing this thing like drivers? I got this monitor almost two weeks ago, but it's still in the box 'cause i'm still waiting for my other computer parts.
Should i use the drivers/software that came in the box or download new drivers? Thanks.
Why not overclock?
1) I don't know how and afraid to ruin a chip if i do.
2) Overclocking will cost more on components (ram, heatsink, and motherboard)
3) Heat issue; I'm putting everything in a micro atx case.
4) more expensive CPU = less expensive CPU + high end parts...what's the point?
5)...
Enginurd,
Well, as far as the board goes, i don't plan to overclock that's why i'm going with a cheap ram also (the Wintec).
It sounds like the 640MB card is good only for AA/AF turn on and what exactly would i miss from games like CCTiberium, Supreme Commander, Rome, and Company of Heroes...
Guys,
I'm planning to buy all my parts this weekend and i need everyone's opinion of my setup.
Which is better overall:
E6600 + 8800GTS 320MB
or
E4400 + 8800GTS 640MB
I'll be using these components:
Monitor - HP 2207W
Motheboard - Gigabyte GA-965GM-S2 (matx)
Ram...
Is the E4400 the best buy right now for the low end of the build (no overclocking)? I think the price is just about right, $139. The next chip, the E6320, is about 5% faster on games, but almost on par with the E4400 on applications.
E4300 - $117
E4400 - $139
E6320 - $169
All i know is that most NBA ballers play with PS3 and Xbox360. I bet they wouldn't have any idea at all about about computer games and hardwares. For them, a computer is a computer.
Why? Well, would you play in a 30" monitor or a giant 60"+ high definition TV?
I think most computer...
It's so cheap...anything wrong with it?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231098
Is it good enough to light-overclock the E4300?
With a second 120mm fan and a NT06 Lite setup (using PSU as exhaust), i think it'll be cooler than a SG01 setup. Also with a better wire management of course.
Update:
Ok, here's my final list:
THIS: better video card, but so so motherboard; no firewire (for video editing)
CPU - Athlon X2 4600+ (65W)
MB - Biostar Tforce 6100
Ram - A-DATA DDR2-800 2GB
Total from Newegg: $336.27 ship to California
PSU - Corsair 520HX $ 114.75 ship from Zipzoomfly...
Hi,
Is the 8800 GTS overkill for the types of games i play on a 22" monitor?
Games i play: Rome, CCGenerals, MiddleEarth1&2, Civilization4, AgeofEmpires3
Future games: CCtiberium, Company of Heroes, Supreme Commander
As you guys can see i only play RTS games and i know i don't need a...
I'm about to buy a Foxconn 8800GTX locally, brand new, for $400. Is that a good price? This guy is selling it 'cause he wants to buy a laptop instead. He said its sealed and brand new. Does Foxconn have the same warranty and support like EVGA? Are there cards as reliable as EVGA? Also, can the...
For the price, i think it's a better buy than the MicroFly and the Qpack2 specially when these two have gone up in prices by including unwanted psu. If the SG03 cost more than $150, i would definitely buy this case for my next build.
I hope it has a better panel than all the 22" out there right now. I think this is the only 22" that has a portrait mode and as far as looks, this is the best so far i've seen from all the 22 inchers out there. I guess i have to go to CC to actually test it in person.
Hi guys,
What's the minimum card i should get in order to play RTS games like CC3 and Company of Heroes in medium settings (lower resolution on Dell 2407?) with all filterings off? I was thinking of the 7900GS. Is that good enough?
I don't play often, but use my comp for video editing and...
Ok i think i will wait for the 8600GT. I guess, i will have to bump my budget up a bit after all and since the SG03 is also coming out. I'll keep you guys posted on this...thanks.
Danny Bui,
I've been playing Rome Total War, CCGenerals and soon Company of Heroes and Supreme Commander (low-mid settings for sure). Do i need 2GB even if i play at medium settings on the Dell? The Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 is not matx btw.
Gnu314,
The reason i'm holding back for 2 gigs and an 8800...
Yeah, i'm leaning toward the 2nd option because of the monitor alone, but is it worth the $230+ difference? I know the spec on the 2nd option is not as good as the 1st, but i don't think its gonna make a big difference for a web browsing, simple video editing, RTS games only computer right? For...
Hi guys,
I have a budget of 1300 for my future build and i have listed the two options below. All prices include shipping and tax.
I don't plan to overclock ( i know...the 4300 is asking for it). I only play RTS games btw and medium setting is good enough for me.
CASE Silverstone SG01...
budget is $400 (can be bump up if not enough)

RAM (which ever is best for the MB)
PS
