Origin PC drops AMD graphics options

Indeed... Origin is saying that because they source their Nvidia cards from an OEM, Nvidia doesn't make any money from them. They also say AMD doesn't provide them with any support in terms of test products. Shouldn't Origin be complaining to their AMD OEM source about not receiving test...

It's Wrong to Pretend Video Games Are Art

He's correct to some point about why video games are being considered art, but physical games are not. Why should Pac Man be considered worthy of display at MoMA, but not Chess? What's wrong with D&D, Warhammer, or Star Fleet Battles; either one of these can fill up a bookcase with lore, rules...

Ex-Apple Manager Slams Tim Cook's Management Style

The guy was asked to leave Apple in 2004? How is his information even relevant 8 years later? That's pre-iPhone, pre-Intel Mac and barely pre-WOW. What else happened in 2004: - Facebook was launched. - Ubuntu appeared. - 1GB SD cards

Good AMD Proccesor and Motherboard Combinations

I'd imagine FM2 is going to be a safe bet. All of AMDs desktop processors are supposed going to feature APUs in 2 years - when HSA is supposed to be widely supported.

Why aren't there any high end AMD CPUs?

There's no high-end AMD cpu because there is no market for high-end processors. The fight between Intel and AMD for desktop processing power means nothing compared to mobile computers where ARM dominates both of them. How can Intel and AMD compete against ARM, who has no fabs, makes no product...

Why aren't there any high end AMD CPUs?

So your statement of opinion was "How much longer will AMD be in business?" Funny, it doesn't seem like a statement of opinion (it's a question), nor was it answer to the OPs question of why there wasn't high-end AMD cpus. Just admit it... it was pure troll.

    Your AMD CPU upgrade history!

Can I copy and paste this to claim as my own upgrade history? It's close enough... Socket 7 - check (not sure of the speed) CPU upgrade for an AST 6000. Super 7 - I know I had a 400MHz then a K6III+500, which I still have Slot A - Instead of the 650 and 750, I had a K7-700. Then graduated...

    Vishera Piledriver Benched

I can boot at over [email protected] and an FSB around 206 - it's almost stable enough for web browsing. I still keep a BIOS save for this config, if I want to play with it - I might return to it someday with better RAM. Seeing what I could do at 4.0 is what I do with this processor. Like all overclocks...

    Vishera Piledriver Benched

And here's some numbers... Just encoded the Avengers episode "Never, Never Say Die" in Handbrake - took just over 8 minutes for the 51:15 show to another hard drive. Kill-a-watt showed no more than 265W at a peak of around 66% processor. Idling now at 135W.

    Vishera Piledriver Benched

I can't speak for ebduncan, but my bulldozer is overclocked and undervolted. I'm running the same board as ebduncan. Stock BD with CPB enabled requires 1.4V, under aggressive LLC this can increase a lot - on my machine it was over 1.6V. Once CPB is disabled, BD voltage drops to 1.2V. LLC can...

Desktop Trinity Soon, or Am I Dreaming?

If there is a gap between offering a cpu to OEMs and the general public, it usually isn't six months. The only other time I can think of a gap this large is when Apple got some Intel exclusive releases. I guess times really have changed for AMD - they used to rely on hobbyists to generate...

Desktop Trinity Soon, or Am I Dreaming?

Just checked my local Microcenter's stock online and they dropped the price of the A8-3870K to 89.99, but they don't have any FM1 motherboards. Would have been a nice weekend project. I don't if I should get excited about Trinity or not. It's seems strange a sudden disappearance of Llano...

Are Bulldozers this terrible or do I have a bad motherboard?

Are you running with Turbo enabled? When I first got my Gigabyte UD3 and 8120 - I tried running undervolted with Core Performance Boost. CPB voltage is going to be 1.4V not matter what you down-volt to. Depending on you LLC settings this will vary - mine was hitting 1.6V+ with the setting at...

What's with the drastically small number of AMD cpu threads??

Faster by .1 to .15 a frame. The FX-81xx series will also allow the user to do other things while gaming. It's a lot easier to sit through Handbrake sessions while gaming.

What's with the drastically small number of AMD cpu threads??

IDK Rauelius... I have very little faith in those benches as they exclude the Bulldozer-bashing, Phenom-pulverizing, Llano-lashing, Trinity-trouncing, Intel i3. :) From the diatribe in this forum... I figure, it just gets moar frames.

    NVIDIA strong arm tactics?

MSI certainly signed something... and should have included it with what they sent to TT. TT is all about page hits; they generated quite a few by posting their "spoiler" two weeks early and now they're getting more hits for their tirade about nVidia.

What's with the drastically small number of AMD cpu threads??

I think the forum is slow because AMD hasn't released Trinity cpus for retail. We really don't have the latest and greatest to play with. It's also getting real tiring when in the middle of an honest discussion about our choice of processors some Intel-zealot comes along with their hate...

AMD desktop Trinity CPU's benched at Tom's Hardware

That was just the first article that came up... here's Intels Optimization Notice: http://software.intel.com/sites/products/documentation/hpc/composerxe/en-us/cpp/lin/main/main_welcome.htm To be fair, AMD's compiler probably does the same thing, favoring AMD processor optimizations.

    Is AMD Still Relevant?

Intel has done it before. And people have bought. Only recently have they made their processors affordable, and most of use still buy the more expensive K-chips of the series. Breaking down BD

That was a good article. From a historical perspective... The K10 (Phenom) was originally designed as a server processor. Like Bulldozer, it was greeted with meh reviews and couldn't keep up with the performance the humble Intel Q6600 offered. And gaming performance was poorer than the older...

    What to get: FX-6200 @ 3.8GHz or FX-8120 @ 3.1GHz?

No... I have an 8120. At stock speeds it feels similar to my oc'd 955BE. BD essentially matches the performance of the previous generation X6s and X4s - it doesn't blow them away and when oc'd it won't perform any worse. Right now, replacing your [email protected] with BD isn't really much of an upgrade...

    AMD FX 8350 in Q3 2012

Change is tough; that's what Linux is for? It took a couple years for Intel's HT to be fully supported by MS. It's still taken 8+ years for users to fully adopt AMD's 64-bit instructions - despite Intel licensing them in 2003-2004. I think some people are overly optimistic that Windows 8 will...
