If your interested in linux but you want to keep windows around for games you could dual boot or get a program like virtual PC that lets you run a second OS inside windows. Linux doesnt do games very well but if your interested you can use both OS's on one computer.
Most distro's of linux...
Well if your so worried about being legit you can buy the upgrade to xp home which is pretty cheap. I think it's $99. You don't actually have to have a previous OS on the computer just the CD for 98 ME or 2k. The installer claims it can't find a previous OS and asks you to put in the CD for one...
I could see a point in a printer section. Theres all kinds of printers out there that do tons of crazy stuff now. Why search digital artwork for questions about photo printers and photo options. I was just looking at buying a 19" poster printer the other day and I never even though of asking...
You may very well have to reformat your computer to get rid of it all keep that in mind.
You might be able to get rid of it though.
Download Spybot Search and Destroy install it update it and don't run it yet.
Download Adaware by lavasoft from download.com install it update it and don't run...
Yup this all sounds right and I agree. I was thinking much of the same stuff reading the thread and then what I was going to say had been posted. I will go with a big ditto on this advice. Pop that old phone open pull out the wires, clean the connections and solder new wire in I bet it's just a...
I'm using firefox but it's been a while since I looked around out there. I should probably check them all out again. I like firefox and have no complaints but I hate being one of those guys who is loyal to one product but hasnt looked at other options for years.
I really liked Opera the last...
Well I figgured it out and I'm a moron. I changed the video options in the bios from auto to onboard and everything works great. On a side note you cant do dual monitor in auto video mode with a Dell GX270 for some reason even though it works on most other boards.
I read the comments and got ready to read this crazy persons article. I honestly did try but I got to this point "I'm talking about a project called 'Linux', something you may not have encountered, but might do some day." and I just had to stop.
I'm not a smart guy by any means. In fact I was...
Every game that I know of will open on the primary monitor and lock your mouse into the game screen untill you alt tab or close the game.
As for the point of dual monitors for gaming. I leave messengers and email open and visable on one screen while playing games on the other. At least that...
The program looks sound in theory but I agree that if your actually trying to keep out absolutly everyone there is no other choice but to destroy the drive. If your trying to keep the FBI or whatever from finding your stuff you have to destroy the platters of the hard drive.
If you want to...
Hey I just got back from work, I had to laugh when the first coustomer through the door had a dead hard drive. It was about a year old and guess what brand it was MAXTOR. On a side note it will be replaced with a western digital since we don't sell maxtor because they are crap. Not stocking...
I'm using an Nvidia Riva TNT2 64 to run a second monitor on a Windows XP box. The card has been working fine for a few months using the Nvidia driver 29[1].42_winxp.exe.
I did the latest batch of Automatic updates and the video card stopped working after reboot.
I fooled around with the card...
Yes you definitly should boycott every hard drive maker except Samsung. I'm sure that I could give you some "anecdotal evidence" to support that claim. Look I don't care what you buy go build a raid array out of crappy maxtor drives for all I care. If my advice is so worthless don't bother to...
How can you not understand where I got my information? Where my information came from is first hand experience and I stated that in my post that your quoting. I really don't care that you think your a flying ninja or something special when it comes to hard drives.
I have personally seen the...
I honestly don't care if there is a correct PSU and temp config for maxtor drives. That is no excuse for their drives being the absolute worst on the market.
In my absolutly correct oppinion if you can't buy a hard drive put it into a computer and have it run without a problem it's crap...
The factory CD with the OS has the drivers I don't think you can get the drivers without installing their copy of the OS though.
Right now the HP / compaq website sucks for drivers. You can try HP driver support http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/static_software_select?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&...
I agree it's probably best to try a different power supply. Don't go get a brand new one untill you know that you need it though.
Local computer repair shops usually have used power supplies that will work to prove what your bad part is. I work at a shop like that and we usually sell used...
Well I'm glad to hear about the good support. I might start buying their products because of that.
I agree with everyone that's worried about abuse of such a nice replacement policy. It only takes a small percentage of jerks before you end up with a horrible return or replacment policy like...
The easy way to tell if you can get to another computer is to put your hard drive into another computer as a slave hard drive.
If it is dead windows won't even see it and won't show up in My Computer.
If it's damaged windows will run check disk on it automaticly and you can see how many...
Yup compressed air is the fast and easy way to do it. Remember not to shake the can of air or turn it upside down. Oh and if you have allergies don't use it indoors, sometimes parts that look clean will have a ton of dust in them.
Well I have not seen that problem before but the problem has to either be with the PSU it's self or the BIOS. If you have changed voltages on anything in the BIOS try setting them back to standard.
If your using XP pro you can right click on My Computer and open the Manage console. There is a disk managment tool that will let you create partitions. Partition magic is a program that works really well and I'm sure lots of people will tell you to use.
I think this is the first time I have heard anyone on this forum claim that a processor that isnt so new you can still smell the newegg shipping box could possibly do anything besides be in a FS thread.
Good for you, this is a very refreshing thread.
Well it looks like you got a lot of advice posted up there already but my two cents is this. You could run into problems like cutting cables too short or not getting connectors back in tight enough. I'm not saying don't do it but if you had a computer you didn't care about to practice on maybe...
I use XP Pro for file and music sharing on my home network. Windows media player can by default play music from a remote computer on a network. I use that to let all the computers in the house share music. For files I just have a folder shared and from other computers in the house you do START...
Wow yeah if you have reinstalled windows twice with two different versions then yes it's a physical problem. Do you have the latest driver for the intigrated NIC installed?
The system speaker is mounted in the case it has a 4 pin connector that you plugged in near the power sw and reset sw.
If your awake and online right now get on yahoo and I will help as much as I can.
