Hi Guys,
Networking is the part of tech where I'm the least literate so please excuse the basic questions.
Is a PCIe wireless adapter better than a USB one? I'm told that it is, and my guess would be due to better reception with the antenna, but there are also USB adapters with antennae. Are...
I recently bought an MSI GTX 970 and it has started to make a very strange high pitched noise when GPU Usage climbs up. It starts immediately with the GPU Usage climb and is unrelated to the spinning of the fans. GPU voltage is a trailing indicator of the noise, obviously it's related to GPU...
I bought a Corsair CX600M semi-modular PSU (Link) and although it was supposed to include PCIe power connectors for my video card, it did not have it (Image of missing cable). Before I contact Newegg/Corsair and wait a lifetime and a half for them to ship it, I wanted to explore other options...
Hi guys, I just built a PC with a Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SLI and everything's been going great but one of the motherboard temp reading on SpeedFan is showing 127*C. I'm wondering if it could be a misreading or an error, or if I did something to mess up the installation.
If I am at fault, any ideas...
The motherboard uses a Killer NIC and I'm wondering if it has wireless capability. It's listed as just a LAN chip with no mention of wireless. Ethernet is not an option in my home, so networking has to be wireless.
I haven't built a PC in years so this might be a silly question, but I'm wondering if a GTX 970 will fit inside most mid-ATX cases. Do you guys have any recommendations for good sub-$100 cases that would fit one of these giant video cards, or do I need to be looking at full ATX towers?
I'm building a gaming PC for my brother but I've been using laptops since about 2008 so I'm a bit out of the loop when it comes to certain important parts.
The GTX970 seems like an amazing value but I'm unsure about what kind of PSU would be a good fit for a system with one of those cards...
My ultrabook laptop doesn't have a DVD drive, and due to a pre-existing Samsung mini-partition, USB installs also run into trouble. Previously I've had to go out and buy an external USB-connected DVD drive to reinstall Windows.
I'm wondering if there is a way for me to use another computer to...
So after a Windows update rebooted my laptop, I'm unable to boot again because of a corrupted registry. I need to recover the data from that drive. I'm wondering if it's possible to take out the slim hdd in my ultrabook, use some kind of SATA-to-USB adapter, and connect to it as an external hdd...
I haven't been here in well over a year, I stopped paying attention to computer trends in early 2007.
Just a quick question - Does the 9800GX2 video card require you to have an SLI motherboard to function?
And if it does, is a $280 GTX260 worth the increased performance over a $195 9800GTX?
I'm running Windows XP 32-bit. It boots up and I get the screen that asks if I want to boot in as normal, as last good config, as safe modes, etc. All of these yield the same result: After the XP logo screen comes and goes, where there should be the blue login screen with all the usernames to...
We recently moved every computer in our house to wireless, but we don't have a wireless card (yet) for one of the desktops. Is there any way to connect to the internet via another computer, something I can do with an ethernet cable perhaps? The router is on a different floor and it would be...
What does the Rev 1.3 version of this board do? There are two types being sold on Newegg, which one supports 1333Mhz FSBs?
Also, is there any way I can tell which motherboards in general support a processor that requires a 1333Mhz FSB, such as the E6750?
How can I tell which motherboards have Core 2 Quad support? Also, how to tell which ones support the 1333Mhz FSB Core 2 Duos?
Newegg lists some motherboards as not compatible with Core 2 Quads, but the reviews show people using Q6600s and such with them. Newegg also shows which motherboards...
My Fraps folder had been growing progressively huge lately. I have an almost OCD-like need to take screenshots in my games, and I'd collected quite a large number over the past few months. There were well over 100K .jpg files in my Fraps folder. Today when I logged on, I found that FRAPS wasn't...
So I know that the actual Power output from the +12v rails is not the same as the sum of the two or more rails, so how do you calculate what the actual power output is?
For example, the Antec True Power Trio 550W has 3 +12v rails with 18A on each of them. That's a total of 54 Amps, but that's...
I've been recommending the ASUS P5B-E motherboard to a lot of people recently. However, I've heard reports from atleast 2 of those people that they are having trouble with the motherboard not booting at first. This is ofcourse due to the memory problem, with the motherboard defaulting for...
You can drop a Quad Core proc. into any existing S775 motherboard that has a chipset compatible with the current Core 2 Duos, correct? Just wondering if I missed something.
Do you have to buy a PSU with 4 x 6-pin PCI-E connectors to be able to run two 8800GTXs in your system? Or does the number of connectors also depend on the amount of rails in the system? Will multiple +12v rails mean more connectors? Like, would a PSU with 2 x +12v rails and a specification on...
I remember threads like before, but since the Search feature is kaput at the moment, I made a new one.
Since these are the two best motherboards in their price category, I wanted to know which one is better. Actually, I already know that the P5B-E is better, I just don't know why. When...
So my eyes are just being opened to the fact that you don't need 700W PSUs to power most high-end systems. The thing that basically triggered this enlightenment was this article on DailyTech about the 8800GTX, and the total system power consumption shown in a small chart near the bottom. As you...
I'm building a PC for my friend. His budget doesn't let him go over $300 for the CPU + Mobo, and I was looking for a sub-$100 motherboard for him. I want it to have decent overclockability though, as I will probably also be overclocking it for him. And not overclocking a C2D is a practical...
So after reading the thread about why a CPU can't calculate Physics for nearly the same amount of objects that a PPU can, I was wondering; How efficient is a GPU when compared to a PPU? I can't imagine it being as powerful as a PPU, even with a 8800GTX calculating the physics.
I've been looking for some good Core 2 Duo overclocking guides for beginners that just got into overclocking. For now, I haven't even found one. The guide(s) isn't/aren't for me, they're for some of the people that I help design/build computers, who have no idea how to overclock. And I'm not...
I've been looking around, but can't find out how many watts today's videocards take up. I've heard about the 250W or so that the DX10 cards are going to pull, and I think the current videocards take up around 100W, but still wanted to confirm that.
I just got back from reading Anandtech's report on the BIOS update for the ASUS P5B deluxe motherboard. The update allowed the motherboard to reach FSBs of 525Mhz on a E6300 processor. AFAIK, most motherboards were having problems breaking 370Mhz or so. I'm wondering if what the BIOS update did...
I'm not building or overclocking anything. I'm simply a helper of other people, not unlike most of you. However, I need to know how to overclock Intel processors (since I'm only know AMD overclocking). But for the sake of making it easier, let's have a hypothetical situation where I'm going to...
So I've been out of the loop for about 2 weeks. In the meantime, it seems that decent 2GB DDR2-800 memory sticks have fallen off the face of the earth. So what would you guys currently recommend to someone who's planning to get a E6600 and to overclock that as much as feasible.
I thought Conroe motherboards weren't supposed to come out until right before the processors' release?
Are we ID'ing them from their chipsets? I believe only the 945, 955, 965, and 975 chipsets are compatible? Well, not all of them say that they support Conroe, when browsed over on Newegg.
AMD !!!!!!s; Don't think for even a second that the Intel Conroe is only an equal to the Athlon 64. That "review" has GPU bottlenecks, the CPU has no effect on the FPS in that graph. In sheer processing power, the Conroe destroys the Athlon 64.
You people are celebrating over a despicable...
Please leave comments about the Conroe article out of this thread.
I'm having a debate with someone else regarding why a faster CPU doesn't show any improvement.
My view, which is supported by almost every benchmark out there, including this latest review, is that the GPU needs to get...
So I've been hearing that the 4x4 platform is going to be for the FX-series only. It's supposed to be for enthusiasts and stuff, but can it be used with lower-end processors?
I have a relatively simple question - Does the Conroe processor still emulate 64-bit capability like the Pentium 4s, or is it now a truly 64-bit processor like AMD's Athlon 64s?
Oh the humanity. Clicky.
Hard to believe this was supposed to come out mid-2006 sometime ago, haha.
Also...this isn't good for Ageia. Their "killer app" is really late. 9 months from now... :(
I'm looking to get a friend out of his Dellbox (Dimension 3000) and need a new motherboard. He wants to keep his 2.8GHz Prescott Socket 478, so I need a motherboard for him. I'm quite experienced in AMD hardware, but know next to nothing in Intel hardware, thus my cry for help. I'm hoping for...
Are most people on this Forum either of the opinion that Conroe will be much better than Athlon 64s, or don't want to make any assumptions until they come out? If true, its quite remarkable to see a group of such level-headed people, especially in the AMD processors part of the forum. Other...
So I was looking at this article again.
Basically - this means that there is no reason to get a high-end CPU other than to make sure that you have something that can handle future videocards, right?
The article basically states that the videocard can't keep up with the instructions that...
Link to article.
My question is; If the GPU has such great processing power, then why don't we use them as the CPUs?
I mean...I don't know how they calculated that a 3.0GHz P4 does 12 gflops...(SiSoft Sandra says it does more like 3.8 gigaflops...) but still, if they used the same...
