Dell 3007 WFP LCD Monitor at $2200

That's pretty sucky on Dell's part not to even add a letter or something to the model to let us know which panle it will have. Reason being LG is a S-IPS panel, Samsung is S-PVA. Don't wan't to bring the old thread back but that DOES matter to some people. Both technologies have different...

    More SED goodness

The limiting factor is most likely the current density. If you think of the "guns" as needle poits behind the screen, as you go smaller the current increases proportionaly, so does the heat, and in the end it would probably burn out the gun (dull niddle point) in very short time

DVI cable quality between Monster and OEM?

If you experience jittering or other distortions on the analog CRT signal now, chances are you'll actually not see it when you go digital as common mode noise will be rejected by differential signalling.

DVI cable quality between Monster and OEM?

I think you guys are getting a little bit anal over here. When it comes to analog than yes I'd agree you need good cables, however for TMDS DVI signal any decent quality cable will do. First of all the signaling is based on 3.3V (not 5) with single ended swing of about 0.5V. At the current...

    2405 theory

I think you got a little bit carried away here. If you look at Dell 2405, at 0.27mm dot pitch we get 25.4/0.27 = 94.07 dpi At your desired 300dpi the 1920x1200 resolution screen size would be about 6.4"x4" I sure as hell don't want to try to read text on a display like that, but than again...

    Gateway's FPD2185W: a 21in widescreen 2005fpw killer!

I wish this was true for me. I guess I'm just more sensitive to the color shift. 24" panel is big enough to notice it when moving the eyes, heck I even notice it on the 19" at work (MVA type). Bottom line is, everything is subjective, if it doesn't bother you than more power to you, I really...

    Gateway's FPD2185W: a 21in widescreen 2005fpw killer!

I'm gonna have to disagree with that. IPS panels (like apple cinema or HP l2335) do not exhibit the color wash phenomena unless you start using extreme angles. You don't need to move your had to notice it. As a simple excercise put up a picture with lots of dark details (like a tree with...

    Gateway's FPD2185W: a 21in widescreen 2005fpw killer!

Like I said before, no amount of calibration will get rid of it. It's an inherent feature of the MVA/PVA technology, you may notice it less but it's there. Try to look at the gray side bars on the forums here and see if you still think it's gone. I guarantee you'll find the familiar...

    Dell 2405FPW vs HP L2335

This grey metallic effect is rather annoying and for me and I see now many others it disqualified this other than that awesome panel. All PVA/MVA panels will have it. I had both 2405 and f2304 (consumer version of L2335) for a while. HP uses S-IPS panel so the colors do not get washed out and...

    Gateway's FPD2185W: a 21in widescreen 2005fpw killer!

The wasout is pretty obvious and I don't have any other techniques. If you can take a laptop with you with this forum page saved and look at the grays, should be pretty obvious. I would try to shade the monitor as in the bright store lights the wash may not be that obvious.

    Gateway's FPD2185W: a 21in widescreen 2005fpw killer!

I'm pretty sure Acer is using IPS panel, so no washout. This is probably the same panel as Dell 2005fpw. A rule of thumb would be that anything with the advertised contrast above 700:1 will most likely be MVA/PVA. You can try to get Dell which will give you Composite and S-Video as well as...

    Gateway's FPD2185W: a 21in widescreen 2005fpw killer!

Unfortunately current state of the LCD technology leaves alot to be desired. If you wan to get a LCD today it will have to be a compromise, no single technology is the best. All PVA/MVA displays will have this color wash and annoying grey problem, so you can immediately scrap Dell 2405 and all...

    Gateway's FPD2185W: a 21in widescreen 2005fpw killer!

No amount of calibration will help the wash out look when viewing at angles, it's just the inherent flaw of the PVA technology. That's why I've returned 2405 and this 2185. After initial wow factor wore out lot's of people around here are finaly start noticing it too. The best example is to...

    Westinghouse TV = Awsome display

I think you've used the 2nd DVI port which is limited to 1280x1024, the 1st one should go all the way 1920x1080. Mind you I do not own one so I'm just sharing the info I've found when I was researching it.

    Asus P5WD2 monitoring tool

What other monitoring tools work with this mobo? The supplied AI NOS doesn't show all voltages and temperatures. I'd be interested to see 12V and 5V rails and PWM tmperatures. So far tried: - Motherboard monitor 5 - only show temps , no voltages (discontinued product anyways) - Speedfan -...

    Westinghouse TV = Awsome display

No kidding, BB web site lists it for $1899 but I can't find it in any local store around here. I'd rather not buy it on the web as I'd like to see it first in person and maybe bring a laptop to play with it. Somewhow I'm afraid that it actually is....too big to be a desk monitor watched from...

    Best solution for $2,000 ?

The 30" would be nice. It would have to have similar resolution to apple (2560x1600) in order to keep up with dot pitch size around 0.27. Of course this would mean new dual link graphics card. Personally I don't have problem with this high resolution as it would be one massive desktop. In games...

    Brand Recommendations for LCD Monitors

I do have Sony G520 21" trinitron, however I still like to have a LCD for all general work. Text and web pages generally do look sharper on a LCD. Color wash and bad backlight prevents enjoyment in ANY work or gaming, not just serious work.

    Brand Recommendations for LCD Monitors

That is if you can get one that works properly. I'd say from the posts here and my own experience that we have 50/50 success ratio. There are some problems with dead pixels or backlight bleeding. I personally returned 2405 even though it was perfect, no dead pixels or backlight problems...

    2005fpw view angle problems

This is a known characteristic of IPS lcd panels (which 2005 uses), they tend to get purplish hue when looking at a dark screnn at an angle.. There is nothing wrong with the monitor itself. If you don't work in a completely dim room and have a good ambient light, this will probably not be very...

the 37in lcd thread was closed... =(

Well I just came back from BB. They did not have any 37 westy on display. They had plenty of others but none with 1080p There is one thing that makes me wonder. Quick calculation reveals that display size should be about 32"x18", given the resolution of 1920x1080 that would give a dot pitch of...

    Dell 2405FPW - opinion after 4 days

You must be the first person besides me that finally noticed this. Everybody else seems to be in love with 2405 blinded by it's sheer size. Size is not everything ;) Welcome to the S-PVA panels where viewing abgle matters. This is exactly what causes the problem. Looking at the grays from...

    Gateway's FPD2185W: a 21in widescreen 2005fpw killer!

Not a video card limitation. I had two monitors connected through DVI on 6600GT - 1920x1200 - dell 2405 and dell 2001 1600x1200 at the same time. Right now I'm running two at 1600x1200 just fine.

    Westinghouse 37" 1080p monitor.. I got it :)

One more question. Avguide.com review suggests that it cannot do 1:1 scaling on DVI, meaning that it always overscans by about 4% and out of 1080 only shows 1020 pixels or so. Is that true? That would pretty much made it unusable as a PC monitor through DVI

    Westinghouse 37" 1080p monitor.. I got it :)

I got lots of questions. I want to know how even is the backlight at this monsterous screen size? any bleeding? How about bad pixels? From the usability point of view, how far away do you sit from it? Is is overhwelming making you turn your had back and forth? How low can it go on the stand...

    Gateway's FPD2185W: a 21in widescreen 2005fpw killer!

You need to do that through the video card drivers. For nvidia got to custom timings and select - video card scaling and either 1:1 or aspect ratio. The monitor itself DOES NOT have scaling for VGA / DVI inputs

    DVI-D to RGB adapter question

You will have zero success. Those four extra pins are actually R-G-B and sync, if you remove them you are left with DVI signals only, no RGB. The so called "adapter" simply passes those four signals plus ground to the DB15 connector. You can check that with ohm meter. DVI is a high speed serial...

    Gateway's FPD2185W: a 21in widescreen 2005fpw killer!

Actually you don't need to sit that close. I was sitting at arms length and could see the was on the sides of the screen, and I'm not even talking edges, you coud see it start at about 1/3 of the screen width to either side. The main problem is that the wash is actually what you are suppose to...

Is there a better 23+ LCD coming out in the future?

Don't believe all the dell support hype. I for one am waiting for over a week now to get 3rd replacement on 2001. I'm running 6600GT so I don't think it's the card that's holding it back. Far cry looked low quality beacuse of the picture taken, it was actually running at full 1680x1050. You are right, I have 6600GT and using video card scaling takes care of that - aspect or 1:1 Am I being over critical? Maybe, maybe not. I just look for things that obviously stand out bother me. For someone else the viewing angle may not be an issue. I do a lot of work with video and digital...
