    Steam Deck Parts at ifixit

It's illegal in the US to void the warranty for opening a device. They can only refuse (and still not void) fixing problem that they can prove was caused by the work you did to it. It's got to the point that the US government has demanded manufacturers stop using "void" tape, because it tries to...

LTT: Which Mechanical Keyboard Switches are BEST? Blind Test!

Getting into Keyboard options like crazy. Trying to find the perfect setup for every use. Ducky Mini for laptop bag, Huntsman with Linear optical switches for gaming station, Ducky full size with silent reds for work and so on. Even going to dabble in self build keyboard if for no other reason...

Amazon is Allegedly Canceling Subscribe & Save Orders to Charge Customers More

Going to follow with the same as everyone else who uses the service. I never get charged more then they tell me. If there is a price change of more than the 10% that not having more than 5 items would add I get an email and have pushed deliveries out an extra month for this. What is probably...

AMD Previews 7nm Ryzen CPUs at CES

Dude, you have two type of enthusiasts. The ones that recommend overkill and those that would say right sizing all purchases is important and that Ryzen is overkill. Ryzen doesn't require CL14 and more than a 9900k needs it. At most what Ryzen needs is fast ram, but even that caps out at...

    TR 3 32 or 48?

Zen2 is a really wierd one for me. Starship was on the roadmap of having 48 cores. Which started the guess work of wondering how the CCX configuration would be. AMD needs to keep a steep lead in core count. Zen 3 is unlikely to break away from Zen 2 that much and hasn't been recently refered to...

    7700K user - Sell me on a 2700X.

And that is bullshit too. IPC doesn't translate to dirrect performance neither does clockspeed. At it's worst outside of one or two outliers, a 77000k is about 10-12% better at 1080p gaming over a 1700x. The rift has closed for many reasons but without an overclock the difference between a 7700k...

    2990wx request

I assume a lot of people that do work at home, its not work computers. It's home computers that they like to do work on. So there can be balance between a computer that they can game on, but also if they bring their project home for the weekend or to work on it on their own time they can.

    Scott Herkelman on NVIDIA GPP

Some of those were seriously late to the party and when you start adding Titan's and even the 1080ti doesn't it really start drifting away from being a true competitor to the products you are comparing it too. The only reason's Vega64's compare in pricing is do to mining gouging but for the...

Chris Hook leaves AMD, starting new role by the end of April

AMD makes money if they ship products that get purchased. AMD making lots of money off of Crypto doesn't require them to be making the profit from the price gouging.

AREZ Brand Gets Ready for Debut Due to NVIDIA GPP

Asrock hasn't been a sub brand for Asus for awhile. Asus spun them off a long time ago and they were purchased by an OEM only board manufacturer (that I believe was also either Asus's parent company at one time or spun off from them much earlier). So while there is some relationship there it's...

Dell and HP Resist the NVIDIA GPP Leash - So Far

You do know the first RoG product was an AMD based one right? I see why Dell and HP won't join. Last time they let a company do this they had to deal with all sorts of court battles and it weakened their positions. Dell on top of that paid an arm and a leg of actual cash on Alienware back in the...

Epyc and the advantages of 128 PCI Express lanes

You can never have too many. But you can certainly have too little. Most of this is a side effect of CPU design really. From the bottom up AMD needed to have enough PCIe lanes to feed the APU and have spare for the motherboard. For Ryzen they needed to support the swapping between Ryzen and the...

Do I need to Jump to a x370?

This might seem like a bad idea being under the GPU1 slot. But my guess is the exact opposite. Sure the air itself will be above ambient, but the M.2 card is going to be producing a large amount of heat itself probably be at a higher temp than the air hitting it from the GPU. This would actually...

    AMD Ryzen 5 1600 & 1400 CPU Review @ [H]

Well unless they want to pay the difference or lone me their system till next year when I would have built a SL-X 8c system they can suck it. But even if I threw a fortune at a 6900 setup (which I was was heavily thinking about till the Ryzen preview) i'd still have the issue I just wouldn't...

    AMD Ryzen 5 1600 & 1400 CPU Review @ [H]

I get that people see AMD and if they are Intel fans or Nvidia fans they feel that AMD is the enemy. People can still like using Radeon cards in Intel machines (I had been for almost 5 years). And many people including myself would have no problems using a Geforce on an AMD rig. Personally I...

Quick and dirty Asrock Taichi x370 review/experience.

Mine is dual rank Samsung B-Die. It's a limit of BIOS/IMC at this point. I can wait it out and honestly for the most important part capacity matters more than speed. I can lose a couple frames in the games I play.

    AMD Ryzen 5 1600 & 1400 CPU Review @ [H]

It's not it's already happening. DX12/Vulkan is going to drive people to higher core units (assuming Nvidia fixes their drivers). Professional apps have been multithreading for ages with the exception of Adobe. The 7700 is blindingly fast and probably best DX11 CPU ever. But it's the last...

    BIOS updates for AM4 motherboards

Yeah turns out that while fine on previous BIOS' it was fine but on 2.0 it gets disabled by default. I was able to turn it back on and everything is great. Also got my memory up to 2633. Set some pretty loose timing hopefully I can work those down a bit but stability first at this point.

Worth watching, ryzen perf increase to 7700k level when using amd gpu

Look all that I ask and this is all that I ask is look at DX11 performance and DX12, in the Computerbase.de Ryzen review. When looking at that performance look at the 7700k, 6900k, and 1800x. More specifically compare the performance in DX11 and DX12 between the 7700 and the 6900. Once you have...

    BIOS updates for AM4 motherboards

I ran 2.0 today. I think it disables AMD-V. Running VMware workstation 11. Anyways it gave a CPU error (didn't implicitly suggest AMD-V was missing). But When I tried to force AMD-V it stated I didn't have support for it. Went back to 1.6 and its back to working.

Worth watching, ryzen perf increase to 7700k level when using amd gpu

Hell I tried to get you to just look at Intel vs. Intel with percentages, but you never would respond to those. Mainly probably because it didn't include AMD on the GPU, but that was all I was trying to get across Intel against Intel on the same exact card.

Quick and dirty Asrock Taichi x370 review/experience.

You are extremely lucky the EVGA stick worked right away on the 1.94 beta bios. 3200 even with the best and most compatible ram is still a bit of a gamble. I myself got 3200 16GB per stick ram for my Taichi knowing that I probably (and can't) run it at 3200 now but as the board is updated I...

Can someone please explain CCX to me?

You know what I missed the .5GHz part of that. I thought you were saying it was on par with Clarksdale clock for clock. I was just trying to be conservative.

Can someone please explain CCX to me?

Well I don't know IPC wise it's probably closer 3rd Gen, in terms of IB so like a 3500k. I also don't think what we are seeing in games is a ccx penalty (it could be a part but, I have other theories). But it's really not just about straight up performance, a Quad core at Sandybridge level or...

Worth watching, ryzen perf increase to 7700k level when using amd gpu

I haven't said anything about DX11. It's always been about DX12. That has been my problem all along, is DX12, where more and more examples since AdoredTV's tests are starting to show that DX12 stops scaling on Nvidia drivers leaving high core systems with unused cores and CPU overhead on the...

Worth watching, ryzen perf increase to 7700k level when using amd gpu

The problem with BF1 is that it saves a lot of its MT work for MP. That is why the German sites keep testing MP. DICE does that so they can they increase player counts without people needing to lower their video settings assuming they have a strong enough GPU. Otherwise BF1 in DX11 looks what is...

Worth watching, ryzen perf increase to 7700k level when using amd gpu

I am going to post a video but I think it is going to explain what we are seeing. You might have already seen it but if not please watch it. It still doesn't answer why scaling seems to have stopped on DX12 with Nvidia, but it could answer why considering a scaling stop why the 6900 could be...

Worth watching, ryzen perf increase to 7700k level when using amd gpu

Okay. First I want to say, that I am trying not to hold AdoredTV's results in high regard. There is a lot to question about his testing methodolgy. Just that he did one crucial thing that even hardware Unboxed saw, just didn't see it in the same way he Adored saw. What I do think HU did miss the...

Worth watching, ryzen perf increase to 7700k level when using amd gpu

Its a huge mystery because of the severe lack of information available. All GPU tests are generally done with one CPU. In the last several months that CPU is 7700 All CPU tests are generally done with a single GPU for the last several months its been a combination of 1080,1080Ti, or Titan X...

It's so funny you think that the video invalidates what I have been saying. It's so close to being useful but instead drops ball so terribly. No Intel CPU comparison in most of the important DX12 testing with the exception of RotTR and Battlefield, his RotTR he does find faults in the DX12...

Look at the numbers. Crap just ignore the Ryzen numbers. This isn't even Nvidia optimizing for Intel. It's not handling Intel that much better once you get past 4c. That is my problem. But you nor anyone else that disagree's with me even touch that and its the whole premise of what I am saying...

Worth watching, ryzen perf increase to 7700k level when using amd gpu

The problem is that DX11 is only as threaded as Devs make the game to be. So something like BF3-4 would still at least in Multi-player would start to run better on AMD hardware (more cores, even BD did well). That tied with Windows' tendency to flop threads around on different cores just for...

AMD Ryzen Oxide Game Engine Optimized Code Tested @ [H]

The mounting evidence that DX12 on Nvidia cards not only struggle from game to game to see a benefit. One that seems consistent on AMD GPU's. But as we see with the links I posted in regards to Computerbase.de's CPU tests with DX 11 and DX12 in BF1 ignoring Ryzen for now, the drop in performance...

AMD Ryzen Oxide Game Engine Optimized Code Tested @ [H]

No that isn't what is happening. People like you are only looking at part of the picture. The R5 benches next week will prove the point. The point is that Nvidia has crappy DX12 performance with current drivers/hardware. What AdoredTV noticed and what the Ryzen owners and interested party have...

AMD Ryzen Oxide Game Engine Optimized Code Tested @ [H]

Its not working on Intel either. You are tricked because specifically on 7700k 6 threads or less Intel GPU's there is an actual performance gain when going to DX12 in some games and or scenarios. The fact is that any loss shouldn't happen on either arch and the Radeon performance on both systems...

AMD Ryzen Oxide Game Engine Optimized Code Tested @ [H]

As I just responded to Khrush, it is at least in RotTR, obvious that DX12 is just plain borked on Nvidia cards. The 480 shows heavy performance increase across the board compared to DX11. Even with the 7700k the 1080 shows pretty much a loss or break even on DX12. So it's either AMD has terrible...

AMD Ryzen Oxide Game Engine Optimized Code Tested @ [H]

It's not even about designing it around the 7700. The RotR stuff basically shows as DX12 being broken on Nvidia GPU's. At best there was no measurable performance increase on the 7700k when moving to DX12. But at some points in the game there was performance loss as well. The killer for Ryzen is...

AMD Ryzen Oxide Game Engine Optimized Code Tested @ [H]

Yeah it was more of an acknowledgement that Adored finds A.) hold water and B.) basically invalidates all gaming benchmarks on Ryzen. We can't be sure we are benching a CPU "properly" on a 480 (properly meaning CPU bottleneck), so a Nvidia graphics card is the only GPU's we can use (1080+)...
