My friend has the CE and will obviously start playing today. I have SE, so I have to wait until Tuesday to play. Will I be able to join the server he's on? I'm a bit confused about the CE Headstart servers vs. the SE Headstart servers.
lol, thanks guys. I'll look into exactly what I can do and upgrade accordingly.
The 8800GT probably won't cut it for 1920x1200 if I decide to shoot that high, so would a 4870 be the best bet without breaking the bank?
-edit- sweet, looks like the board supports the 1333 mhz fsb cpu's...
I'm looking at upgrading for Warhammer, as well. I recently got a new monitor with a much higher resolution, too, so I definitely need to do a revamp.
New monitor is 1920x1200, though playing at a lower res is prolly fine. I used to upgrade my machine every 6 months, but I've been into...
I feel more guilty about buying hardware because I know I'll never even scratch the surface of the games I could play...I can never find time to play a game anymore ;(
Thanks for all the positive reports on wireless operation. I remember when I was having my problems with wireless, there were many reports on the web about wireless being broken (along with some other problems with the network stack). Hopefully mine will function ok this time.
It's...
Weird. I have a business version, but I don't see why it would make a difference. I'm using the integrated wireless NIC on my Asus P5W DH, and when I had Vista installed previously, the only way to keep the connection from dropping constantly was to remove IPv6 addressing and a couple other...
Is there anyone currently using Vista with a wireless NIC that can confirm it's working ok. I imagine it's working now, but I'd like to confirm before I spend the time putting Vista back on my machine.
I have a copy of Vista I got at release that I had installed for about a month, but I haven't had it on since and haven't been following updates on Vista. Does Vista still have a lot of problems with wireless NIC's? I remember having to hack my installation up pretty good to keep my connection...
I'm selling a Dell Latitude D820 new in the box I purchased off of eBay about a week ago. I don't really have the funds at the moment to keep it, so off it goes. I'm asking $WITHDRAWN including trackable shipping and insurance. I'll transfer the 3 year warranty over to buyer once transaction...
That sounds like that'd do the job, too. Wireframe is fine when I'm doing setup work, but it drives me nuts when I'm animating...that's my loss, though ;)
You guys are right, of course. I'm picking up a Dell Latitude D820 off of eBay right now for 1500 shipped (c2d 2ghz, 2gb 667 ram, nvidia quadro nvs 120m, 8x dvd burner, 100gb 7200rpm drive, wuxga screen). It's a bit more than I wanted to spend, but it should be good for what I need it to do...
I'll take a look around on there and see what I can find. Anyone else have any suggestions? I think a merom with 2 gigs of ram and a step above integrated graphics would probably do it.
Can anyone point me in a direction to look for a laptop intended to be used as a 3D workstation (e.g. for Maya)? I don't really care about the system's ability to play games.
If I'm on LCD I always stay at native...otherwise, if the game's current I'll easily take all the graphical pretties turned on in the game with a lower res than a high res with no content.
I finished the tutorial last night (finally, lol) and bought my first new ship today...it was a bummer to find out that I didn't have Minmatar Frigate skill trained enough yet, lol. I had been putting all my training time into Spaceship Command (was level 4 or so when I completed the tut)...
Awesome stuff, Volume. I really appreciate you taking the time to help out a n00b. The game was already more fun today when I was actually doing stuff out in space for the tutorials. I also noticed and liked the way in which skills are trained in this game for the reasons you mentioned...
Thanks for the good advice, Majin, and thanks, Volume, for the info on about how long the tut takes. I plan on finishing it up when I get home tonight and hopefully doing something a little more fun ;)
I finished the mining part of the tutorial before I had to leave for work today...can anyone guestimate for me how much longer I'll be doing the tutorial?
eh, to each their own...I'm sure the physics will be insane as evidenced by past teasers, but graphically it's really not doing much for me. I also notice the motion blur. It seems like all the things 3DFX tried to bring to the table as far as graphics years ago are finally becoming a reality...
I'm not all that impressed with the screenies, actually. There's some nice depth of field stuff and the vegetation looks good, but that's all that really caught my eye.
I've had zero luck in finding time to give this a shot...I fear I may not even get out of the tutorial before my 14 days is up :( Talk about bad timing for things to get hectic in my life, haha.
fairly standard finger placement...thumb on the side, index on left button (also used for middle), middle on right button, ring on the other side, pinky either dragging or right by the ring finger.
also, i'm prone to switching back and forth between high and low sensitivities, finger-only...
I'll certainly agree that from a gameplay perspective, WWII makes the most sense out of many different eras for use in such a game, but a good developer can come up with ways to convincingly balance combat in a similar way. I guess I'm just not a fan of historically accurate type games...I'd...
