I'm looking at getting a new laptop here shortly & the deciding factor may very well be the video card. I'm look at a couple of business class systems compared to some gamer systems.
How does the Quadro 2000m compare to a GeForce 540m/560m/570m in terms of gaming (Video shouldn't be taxed...
It's hard to beat the flexibility of the 6500 series. Just upgrade line cards or sup engines if needed. Staying with a given vendor (Cisco) means you'll have more spare parts laying about in case of problems. In the 6500 league though it's usually important enough to have the $$$ 4 hour...
I run a disk to disk to tape scenario in my environment.
Primary NetApp mirrors to secondary NetApp. Backup software dumps to secondary NetApp. Once a month we backup the secondary NetApp to tape for long term archival.
Tape is just to slow & expensive ($50+ for a cartridge). Depending on your...
Personally I think most of the CBT (Computer Based Training) stuff is over priced. But then again I study well by just reading paper books to study with.
Unless you really need an add in card for some reason, stick with the on-board. Avoid the Creative Labs cards especially. They use to kick ass, but the drivers are just so bloated & painful to use these days. Creative Labs & SoundBlaster's glory days are long gone.
U.S. Carriers suck. Takes them FOREVER to get around to getting any interesting phones out, months after the rest of the world... I guess it takes them that long to properly install all the bloatware on them.
I'm pretty happy with my new Asus Transformer.... $400, but I consider it significantly better than the Nook or ViewSonic options, which are about the only decent name brand ones under $300.
Personally I have a HUGE roll of Velcro strap. You can use small dry wall screws or what not to attach it to tables, or just leave it unattached depending on your needs.
RAM is the most important commodity I've found for a VMware host. To estimate what a guest will need, take a look at the memory usage of the server under normal load, or use a dedicated estimation tool for it.
I'm pretty sure you can add them into vCenter, you just can't do much of the cool stuff with them in there. I recently got some new VMware online & could have sworn I had one or 2 of the servers in vCenter on the free or trial licensing before I got things sorted out all the way.
I'm seriously considering going this route myself.
HTPC with 4 tuners + Xbox360 as a media center extender to ditch my Comcast DVR & recievers. Need to get them to do the CableCard install & loose the On Demand stuff, but I think it will be for the better.
Duke has always been about "fun" as opposed to ID games which are more about balance & adrenaline.
I had fun playing Quake & what not, but it's "fun" factor couldn't match Duke. I did end up playing Quake & various mods far longer than Duke though.
Not that I've needed to in ages with gigabit and auto-crossover... But I'd never make crossover cables, just straight through. Then make a crossover dongle. Male & female RJ45 plug with a couple inches of wire between them one end T-568A and the other T-568B. Made it really easy to keep things...
Probably not. Each bit in a SSD has a finite lifespan (10,000-30,000 depending on the manufacturer for consumer gear) that it can get written to. The more you write to it, the faster it dies. But with modern wear leveling algorithms SSD's pretty much seem to be outlasting their usable lifespan...
Almost all hard drive activity by the game is when you load a level/zone/whatever. There is very minimal if any loading or HD access during a level. Unless of course you count background services other than the game fondling the HD for some reason.
I and a lot of others are betting Chrome OS dies here in the not to distant future. They will just evolve Android to take over the segment Chrome OS was targeted for.
I've got a Captivate & some mixed feelings about it. It's an uber Android phone, but Samsung has issues.
They are crap for support, good luck in Samsung ever pushing out an update for anything.
The GPS is crap, very few people with Captivates ever get decent GPS signal, ever.
I'm thinking I'll...
I've occasionally had solid state components squeal a bit, think it's capacitors, but not sure. Power supplies definitely can. Rather uncommon, but I did have some old fanless motherboard that did squeal a bit.

I just upgraded to an Ultra 4 from my old NV+. ReadyNAS just kicks ass for support (forums actively support plugins, and basically cool hacking). Hardware is rock solid.
Ya, the stuff you listed is pretty much to obsolete to be of much use. I'm pissed at my 1760... Paid nearly a grand for it 5-6 years ago while I was overseas. Get back stateside & put it behind my 12megabit cablemodem and get crap performance. Come to find out it tops out at less than a megabit...
I dislike DRM in all forms, but at least Steam gives you enough benefits to make up for the DRM & tries to make the DRM as painless as possible.
Install the games on any PC you want
Re-download the games whenever you want as often as you want
Synch setting across PC's
I prefer buying games...
Have you messed with Mouse filtering or input smoothing? It will mess you up if your use to not having it. With the Steamcloud those settings will follow you around across PC's or a reinstall too.
If it was a hardware problem it really should affect other games, especially other Source engine ones.
I like my Captivate, but Samsung's support, follow-through & community ecosystem are nothing compared to HTC's. HTC does such a better job. I only got my Captivate because it was the first AT&T Android super-phone and there was no HTC on the horizon.
Have they got all the bugs finally worked out? I'm looking at finally flashing the firmware if they finally fixed it so it won't kill the drive anymore.
Infrant (now NetGear) ReadyNAS devices really kicks ass. I've had a NV+ for quite a while and am now thinking about possibly upgrading here soon to another ReadyNAS. The support from their customer service people on their forum is better than I've seen anywhere. They have built a really great...
