Interesting read. While the layoffs will generate cash savings in the long term and are needed, they do generate some upfront costs. I wonder if this will have any impact on their Q3 earnings...
A mess of benchmarks all in one place in case anyone wants them:

If intel starts shipping in early to mid July, how long until consumers see any of them?
Check out my new Linux Tattoo:
The center symbol I got years ago just because I wanted one when I turned 18. It means love.
I just wanted to add something a little more "me" to it, so I got Tux. ;)
I've heard and been part of many a NUMA discussion. Though, never have I seen such a clear and easy to see demonstration of (at least partially) quantitative differences. Anyone who was part of such a discussion before, should certainly take a glance...

New galaxy-class servers from Sun are out. It's interesting, because in the interview with the product designer, he keeps talking about how they are using special "high-power" Opteron chips. Sure enough, when you look at the Sun website...
AMD lets loose some massive price cuts. Up to 30% on some of their dual-core opteron parts. It's nice to see AMD cutting dual-core Opteron prices by %20-%30 when Intel doesn't even have a dual core server part out yet!. Go AMD!
For AMD's official prices...
Sneak peak of my latest linux software project:
This is a mp3 player i'm working on for my car. My car has a nice 8" LCD touchscreen that can do 800x600 native, so this software is written with that in mind. The whole point of this is that when you're driving, you can't browse for songs...
Hey, I tried these procs in my K8WE and they will not run. I'm not looking for a solution (as I have two Opteron 265s), I just thought this might serve as a warning for people trying to use this revision Opteron in a K8WE.

Tyan K8W (s2885).
Great board. I've used it for about two years with no problems ever. Most stable board I have ever used.
This is a dual-socket 940 board (for Opterons).
Anyways, froogle was showing around $450 for this board new, so I'll let it go for $200. I already flashed the...
I wasn't sure if I should post this in the Linux section or the AMD64 section, since this benchmark will only run on AMD64, and it will only run in Linux. I think it's better to put it here because anyone can pop in a bootable linux live-CD to run this if they feel like it.
This is a...
