diskpart isnt going to "see" anything. its going to completely blow away the formatting/tables/whatever so it acts like a brand new drive. it may help if it is just a corruption issue.
now do "select disk 0" and "clean". then go back into disk manager and see if it will initialize. only do this if you are not worried about any data that may be on it.
id step it up to a 4000D, they are on sale and move to a 360 aio, also cheaper, forgot youre over in the desert....

something must be messing with it. it took forever and a day, had to reboot 3-4 times, but mine came up fine. and its not trying to download again.
you got any 3rd party antivirus/malware on it? ive seen that mess with updates many times...
