DRAM Pricing Jumps 50%, Only 70% of Orders Getting Filled

“New memory player CXMT begins mass production of DRAM platform

News
Oct 5, 20262 A new player in the DRAM space could help alleviate current memory constraints.”

I do not understand the headline or the sentence ?

CXMT was mass producing dram for a long time, I think the copy-paster of the article missed a word: CXMT has begun mass production of its fifth-generation platform,

It is obviously not a new player in the dram space, 10% of the market share last quarter:

“CXMT aims to launch DDR5 RDIMMs with 4F² cell architecture in 2026, beating Samsung to market

ChangXin Memory Technologies, or CXMT for short, plans to unveil a server DDR5 RDIMM based on a 4F² memory cell architecture before the end of 2026. The company confirmed the schedule at a chiplet conference in Shanghai. If CXMT actually brings this plan into volume production, it would be technologically remarkable, as Samsung is currently only expected to introduce a comparable 4F² structure in 2028.”

"SK hynix Could Be Prioritizing DRAM’s Lucrative Returns, Giving Rise To Speculations Surrounding HBM4’s Technical Problems As Backend Equipment Orders Slip To 2027

SK-hynix-HBM4-728x410.jpg
There’s no real evidence that SK hynix is actually suffering from technical problems revolving around HBM4

The milestone surrounding HBM4’s successful development was completed last year by SK hynix, but that doesn’t mean the memory maker is in calmer waters, because the latest report states that backend equipment for next-generation High-Bandwidth Memory has been postponed to next year. The update gives rise to unconfirmed claims that SK hynix could be facing technical hurdles with HBM4, but it’s also possible that the company is minting margins with general-purpose DRAM.

Despite analysts believing that SK hynix’s quality problems with HBM4 are overblown, previous reports indicate that one method has become the source of this problem

The backend equipment was expected to be delivered to SK hynix this year, but Dealsite reports that orders have been pushed back to 2027. Given how HBM has been the driving force for Samsung’s foundry recovery and that the latter is reportedly charging customers three-times the amount for HBM4, SK hynix would be sacrificing a truckload of earnings if it doesn’t receive the advanced paraphernalia on schedule."

Memory stocks are getting hammered. China and a 2029 oversupply are the big worries

  • SK Hynix, Samsung and Micron have been some of the hardest-hit names in the recent tech sell-off.
  • Investor concern over competition from China’s CXMT and potential oversupply of memory chips has created headwinds for memory stocks.
  • A column in a South Korean business newspaper suggested oversupply of memory in 2029 added to pressure on the market.

New flagship GPU purchase locked in for 2029 then if that's when supply catches up with demand. (I wonder how much of that supply is just sitting in a warehouse, waiting on a server farm that may or may not get built.)

Yes, whatever will they do? Collude to drop production as usual? I mean, they will have only been making record profits near 100% margin for 5 years at that point. They'll have to start living like plebes at that point.
I'm guessing the moment that supply starts to meet demand, there will be a couple more "fires" like we used to see.

apparently memory prices have gone so sky high, that China's CXMT is able to scale-up & make a profit even with an extremely inefficient process

Capitalism in action...

“China’s CXMT swings to profit after memory chip prices surge

lant_in_Beijing_Bloomberg_20261016234438_Bloomberg.jpg

Chipmaker CXMT Corp said on Friday that preliminary net income will amount to 131 billion yuan (RM79.89 billion) to 132.5 billion yuan for the first nine months, compared with a loss of 5.3 billion yuan for the same period on global demand for memory chips.
(Oct 16): Chinese chipmaker CXMT Corp reported a surge in preliminary profit and sales during the first nine months of the year after global demand for memory sent prices of the components soaring.
The domestic memory-chip leader said that preliminary net income will amount to 131 billion yuan (RM79.89 billion) to 132.5 billion yuan in the period, compared with a net loss of 5.3 billion yuan in the first nine months of last year. Preliminary revenue is expected to reach 265 billion yuan to 270 billion yuan, versus 32.1 billion yuan last year.
The broader memory-chip field has seen a boom in demand that has sent sales and stock prices skyrocketing. The artificial intelligence build-out has contributed to shortages across the industry, driving up prices of memory components.”

"Michael Dell Predicts The Memory Shortage Is Only “Gonna Get Worse” In 2027, As Company Sits On An Untapped Gold Mine With $95 Billion In Back-Ordered AI Servers

Dell CEO Michael Dell has issued a stark warning regarding the global semiconductor ecosystem, stating that component shortages in the form of HBM and DRAM are expected to worsen next year. Despite sitting on a record backlog of back-ordered enterprise and AI server infrastructure, Dell faces a critical operational bottleneck, with one piece of the puzzle determining how quickly it can add $95 billion of back-orders to its revenue sheet.

To minimize overextending working capital due to supply constraints, Dell has employed an operational framework that somewhat insulates it from future risks

The rapid proliferation of generative AI infrastructure and hyperscale compute requirements has severely outpaced global memory manufacturing capacity. Advanced AI servers depend heavily on cutting-edge HBM chips integrated alongside high-performance GPUs and accelerator silicon to deliver unmatched inference. Unfortunately, these chips are exactly what’s holding Dell back while also contributing massively to its growth."

HBM supplies will be tight until 2030 (unless open AI goes bankrupt before that)

LPDDR should soften from 2028-2029 onwards due to the China effect

South Asian tech: DRAM memory shortage to continue until early 2028

2026-10-13 09:16 IT Home- Wave Tracing (Internship)

DRAM manufacturer South Asia Technology (Nanya) held a 2026Q3 corporate briefing yesterday, at which corporate executives exchanged views with financial analysts.

South Asia Technology said that AI is bringing structural changes to the DRAM industry, and the current shortage will continue until early 2028.

CL-38 not bad... probably better than using pre-made kit converter performance wise.

Lol, that's what I've been planning just haven't had time to do it, yet. Also, no way it's $120. 2x8GB DDR5 SODIMMS at 5600MHz is $160 used on eBay, and that only fills one DDR5 DIMM slot. The blank PCB itself costs around $20.

True ebay price are quite higher, but faecbook local marketplace deal can be better deals, less of a big buyer base/bots, etc... chasing those, the video is already 3 weeks old, could have been ~2 months ago purchasse.

"Dell CEO Says the Memory Shortage Will Get Worse in 2027

by DrUsmanSaleem Today, 20:33 Discuss (2 Comments)
Michael Dell doesn't think the memory shortage is anywhere near over. Speaking with The Wall Street Journal, Dell's chairman and CEO said things will get worse next year, as the AI data center buildout keeps soaking up DRAM and HBM supply. According to him, the bottleneck for Dell isn't demand, since the company is sitting on roughly $95 billion worth of AI server orders it hasn't delivered yet, the largest backlog in its history. Memory is what's holding those shipments back, as AI accelerators need plenty of HBM, while the servers around them still rely on conventional DRAM.

Relief also looks quite far away. New memory fabs take around four years to build, so Dell apparently doesn't expect meaningful new supply until 2029 or 2030. That aligns with Micron's CEO, who recently said supply will be much tighter in 2027 and 2028 than it is this year. Interestingly, SK hynix's CEO said something similar, expecting the memory shortage to last through 2030. Dell is reportedly coping by buying DRAM only when final assembly is close and by locking in long-term supply agreements, though there's no word on how much of that applies to its consumer products."
