The nostalgia is spot-on. Oregon Trail and Sierra are classic staples for a certain generation, and Space Quest with Roger Wilco is still remembered fondly. And the story of UT99 on school computers was pure joy; back in the day, our entire class would just play online battles during breaks until the teachers caught us.

Uh wtf is that mobile bs in my quote.. I didn’t say that shit. Reported.

MechWarrior 2 31st century combat (DOS).
It was the catalyst that I introduced me to battletech. Logged more hours on battletech games (video and tabletop) than everything else combined including consoles.

Hmmmmm. It really depends on the criteria I use to decide favorite.

BG2 is a contender for sure because it is one I still replay from time to time. Every couple years I'll get bit by the itch and say "Know what? I should replay it again." Not a lot of games that do that, and it is by far the longest running for that so strong contender.

However in terms of time spent playing it would be WoW. I quit over a decade ago, during Cataclysm, but man I played a LOT of WoW and enjoyed the hell out of it. No game before or since have I played as many hours, and I had some really good social times on it with friends. So while I don't like what it has become and don't play it any more, it is a contender for sure.

Yet another would be Subnautica. For me it was pretty much a one-and-done, I really don't have much urge to replay it but that first playthrough was magical. The magic of discover and the progress through the deep was just amazing. It was basically all I did for like a week and a half. I'd get off work, and just play it until bed. It just enraptured me in all the right ways. While it isn't something I come back to, because so much of it was the magic of discovery, it is the one game I most wish I could delete from my memory and enjoy for the first time again.
Subnautica might be the strongest argument for a favorite here. I think there's something special about a game that makes you wish you could erase your memory just to experience it fresh again. BG2 has the replayability and WoW clearly gave you years of memories with friends, but that first journey into the unknown is a different kind of attachment altogether. I find it interesting how a game doesn't necessarily need to keep us playing for years to leave the biggest impression.
