“According to NVIDIA, there are two models for DLSS: Multi-Frame Generation and Frame Generation. The first model uses a standard AI approach that inputs motion vectors and depth to understand how two rendered frames are constructed. The second model employs optical flow for in-game elements like UI and ray tracing. Today, NVIDIA replaced this optical flow model with a much faster and lighter AI algorithm that boosts FPS across DLSS Frame Generation, Multi-Frame Generation, and Dynamic Multi-Frame Generation. This new model is available for download through the NVIDIA App beta update, so ensure you're running the latest beta version to try out the "Preset C" setting.

To apply Preset C to your games:
  • 1. Download and install the latest NVIDIA App update from official website or within the app itself.
  • 2. Open the app, go to Settings > About, and check "Opt in to access Beta or experimental features."
  • 3. Wait for the beta update to download, then click the on-screen message to install it.
  • 4. Once installed, open the "Graphics" section of the new NVIDIA app beta and select a supported Frame Generation, Multi-Frame Generation, or Dynamic Frame Generation game. Alternatively, select "Global Settings" at the top of the window to apply it to every supported game in your library.
  • 5. Scroll to "Driver Settings."
  • 6. Click "DLSS Override - Model Presets."
  • 7. Click "Custom."
  • 8. Open the "Frame Generation" drop-down and choose "Preset C."
  • 9. Click "Apply."“

Don't get me wrong, more performance is nice, and after trying out this Preset C for myself I don't see any downsides to image quality at first glance....but where the hell is REFLEX 2? The biggest issue with MFG right now is the latency which Reflex 2 aims to solve.

It may never happen. What they are trying to do is hard. I'm quite sure they are working on it but there is obviously some sticking points. Hopefully they figure those out, but maybe not.

Always the risk with new tech: Sometimes the thing you think was easy isn't, or is even impossible. I'm hoping it is just the former and not the latter.

It's weird still, some people used the leaked version of Reflex 2 and had no major complaints.

Been a full year since the early dll leaked for it now,
View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tENebDPWgO4, worked not too bad at high fps but at low fps the artifact were heavy on my computer.

THe Arc Raider game .ini setting file had an option to enable it, but apparently crashed when doing so, even Valorant has yet to release a playable by the public version of it, there could be the scenario for this would be fast paced shooter and those require has good perfect accuracy of rendering near the aim point anyway, making an hard conflict between the goal and inherent issue with the tech.

Updated today. Tried Cyberpunk 2077 (4FPS increase), Doom - Dark Ages (5FPS increase), Witcher 3 Remaster (5FPS increase) and Oblivion Remastered (5-6FPS increase). IQ mostly the same, slight halo-ing around some lights in CB2077 and Oblivion felt a little rougher when moving view quickly, but as it's a beta I can forgive that.

Do these presets ever get implemented in the games themselves or are they always opt-in via Nvidia App?

A handful of games put them in, mostly newer ones, but generally no, it's up the user to force the preset they want.

It's still common for games to ship with an old-ass version of DLSS or FSR.

Usually only newer games. Like with DLSS upscaling, you see newer titles that implement Preset K (first gen transformer model) or Preset M (second gen transformer) as what they use if you turn it on and don't do an override. However older games usually don't update to use them, so you need to do an override. Also it isn't universal on newer games, sometimes you'll find one that still uses a really old CNN preset by default.

The framegen presets are even newer, so even less will use them. Preset B came out not long ago and C is brand new. I am guessing most games will start using B at least, since it seems to do better with UI elements.
