"A separate screenshot shows the fight against The Snake, the game's first boss, at 10.9 FPS on a GeForce RTX 4090 and Ryzen 7 7800X3D, with some effects still rendering incorrectly. Another attempt through AnyPS5, which relinks PS5 executables instead of emulating the console, is further behind, with the game world reportedly loading at roughly 3.4 frames per minute. Ghost of Yotei follows Marvel's Wolverine, which booted on KytyPS5 late last month and has since reached around 20 FPS. The same emulator also ran the PS5 version of GTA 5 at up to 60 FPS. Interest in these projects picked up after Sony moved away from PC ports of its single-player games, with a planned Ghost of Yotei port reportedly among those scrapped. A playable build is still a long way off, though it's reasonable to expect quick improvements given how fast these emulators have moved."

Legit question, with PS5 able to be run natively on PC's soon and without emulation, what is going to happen to gaming going forward? Game companies won't spend millions developing games anymore if only 50% of the people that play it are going to buy it legitimately. Are we going to be indie only, are games going to just be made by AI, game prices are going to skyrocket and only those without powerful PC's will buy them, what do we think is going to happen?

Having seen enough friends throw up their hands when trying to figure out even super user-friendly emulators (like Dolphin and Final Burn), I'm not super worried in the short term. Most people need a lot of hand-holding, like those 1000-games-in-1 cartridges and such.

what’s so hard about them

I think it takes someone who has some level of computer savvy to get the emulator itself (sometimes with a separate front-end), configure everything so that it works, find a specific ROM, get everything to see each other, get it working with a controller, etc.
For the people in a forum like this? It's obviously no big deal. For the masses? It's apparently quite the hassle. I've tried to show multiple gamers that usually play on console how it works and they act like I've asked them to design a nuclear reactor. It's why I don't think this will ever be as mainstream as the tech folks think. I think the real threat = those "unofficial ports" that DSOGaming posts. The ones that install themselves like a normal game and anybody can get 'em running.

It's not so difficult now (you can just get ROM packs), but you still need to know how to get the ROMs (legal or otherwise) and set up everything. And then the experience on some emulators is worse than native, for now at least. If you are emulating, usually price isn't the main reason, although it is for some.

they might have to get with the program or pony up significant more cash going forward,

Game Console Market Craters: Xbox and PS5 Sales Plummet Over 25%

The PS5 is 6 years old now. It's been refreshed and improved, but it's still the PS5 in the end. Coupled with price increases across the board (electronics, games, etc), it's no wonder game consoles are taking a beating. Gotta put food on the table. A lot of people are probably selling to make ends meet, a used console could be a bargain compared to new.

If anything, they'll have to figure out how to sell new games, because a new console probably won't help right now. They need to try to keep current customers so when the market improves they can release a new console and capitalize on the excitement.

What happens then is that dedicated consoles die off.

Note the SW end-game for a while has been that every application runs in its own VM, so things will probably eventually move that way regardless.
