This is why I love the i5-13600K - the overclock gaming king at 1440P (but the i5-14600K is better)

Update 10/17/2026:
The i5-14600K is even better!

I've had better overclocking i5-13600K's, and I'm kicking myself for getting rid of them. I managed to get another one, and it's a decent overclocker. Why it gets better benchmarks than a stock i9-14900K, an overclocked i7-270K Plus, and even a Ryzen 7 9850X3D with PBO+200 and -30CO... I have no idea.

The i5-13600K at 1.4V with LLC 5 gets 5.7GHz (2 P-core usage), 5.6GHz (4 P-core usage), 5.5GHz (6 P-core usage), with E-Cores at 4.4GHz (updated).

Using the slowest overclocking RTX 5070 Ti (+270 Core Clock in MSI Afterburner, with peak clocks at 3202MHz), it got the highest 2K native benchmark score in Cyberpunk2077. There's still some factors to consider, like different driver versions, as well as memory speeds and timings, and mean GPU frequency. But still, it's crazy.

i5-13600K @ 5.7(2P) -5.6(4P)-5.5(6P)-4.4E (3202MHz peak Core Clock) = 163.56 FPS
i9-14900K @ stock (3202MHz peak Core Clock) = 160.87 FPS
i7-270K Plus @ 5.7P-48E-43R-34N-30D (3300MHz peak Core Clock) = 158.17 FPS
Ryzen 7 9850X3D PBO+200 -30CO (3307MHz peak Core Clock) = 155.16 FPS

i would love to get my hands on this.
My main PC is an i5 2500k, and if i remember correctly this is the modern day i5 2500k...i think its what they're saying.

Salute, enjoy it

Alder and Raptor are excellent. I still need to dial on my 13900k box. It’s Cachyos and gaming only. Lots of fun to tinker with and performance aplenty for my needs. Nice job on yours!

I was hesitant to do a 13th or 14th gen, but I love my 13600k. My 14700k I still worry about on occasion, even though it has the most robust water cooling I have ever installed. It spends most of it's time for Plex duty and doesn't get to taxed but is on 24/7.

13600k, flogged like a red headed stepchild. The 14400 takes a pounding too under Cachy

I run one in a temporary box I built with my FE 3090 and it's great for playing all my stuff at 4k, sure my newer stuff might be faster but hey this temporary rig has been running for almost a year lol

I'm so confused. Why is the overclocked 13600K performing better at 2K than an overclocked 9850X3D, overclocked 270K Plus, and stock 14900K? The 14900K has two P-cores up to 6GHz, the rest boost up to 5.7GHz, and E-core is stock boosted to 4.4GHz. The 270K Plus is a decent overclocker with P-cores at 5.7GHz and E-Cores at 4.8GHz, plus has faster 8000MHz DDR5 memory at CL38. The 9850X3D boosts up to 5.754GHz and is dialed in with 6000MHz memory at CL30. By all accounts, the overclocked 13600K should be performing the worst. It has the worst scores in Geekbench 7 and CPU-Z (but still beats the 9850X3D in Geekbench 7 Multi and CPU-Z in Single and Multi).

The 13600k would have the least amount of latency between cores and also in general (i.e. to memory) not sure how that would impact that game in particular though.

That makes the most sense. Maybe too many cores (or too little), causes more of a slowdown, because everything is placed further away architecturally? In this case, memory speed or even V-cache, doesn't really matter. It's interesting to see since when they last properly tested the i5-13600K, they don't always benchmark with overclocs, and they used a RTX 3080 instead of a RTX 5070 Ti, which is quite a bit faster.

what are you using to cool it? undervolting?

i have the 14600KF but i find it gets very hot....i tried undervolting but it didn't go so well, haven't had time to try again. current temps are fine but i'm not about to take it off stock settings again. good way to heat up the room.

Just a MSI MAG Coreliquid A13 240 and Arctic MX-7 for the TIM, and using a contact frame. Ambient temp is around 73F. I'll take BIOS screenshots when I get the chance. For 5.5GHz all-core, I needed 1.39V's, but for 5.7GHz (2 P-core), 5.6GHz (4 P-core), and 5.5GHz (6 P-core), I only needed to bump it up by 0.1V's. Then I just overclocked E-Cores by 0.1GHz and tested for stability without touching the voltage.
