Gears of War: E-Day

Well most western game studios (and media in general) have been idealogically captured by this leftist propoganda so I'll likely not play any more from them at least. But I'm confident that since most of the Asian/eastern studios (noteably Capcom who has been dominating western studios for year now) have resisted it at this point, I'll be able to enjoy their games for the forseeable future. But there are also more indy studios now more than ever that are encroching on western studio's market share since they're not building games within their HR's DEI constraints and by committees who think we're all idiots that need arrows, lines, and paint to show us where to go in an already on-rails linear game.

I have to wonder for those like you that remain completely ignorant to the propoganda though; where's the line for you to not play a game as long as the "game play is good and that's all that matters"?

What if these bloated western games studios were constantly making games with Christian white-male protagonsists that only fought against blacks and minorities while preaching about how great God is all the time? Would you still play that as long as the graphics were good and the game play was adequate? Every time I see a minority woman in a role only a male could do or an LGBT insert that would have definitely killed themselves or died in any apocolype situation, that's them saying "God is good, go with God!" to me. That's how I see this garbage. It's a religion to them because they otherwise have no religion and I don't want to be preached to in games where I just want to shoot things and see numbers go up to have a good time.
You don't want to be preached to, but here you are preaching...

Comparing me posting my thoughts about a game in a game forum/thread amongst a few dozen people where we can actually discuss it, to a AAA game studio preaching their leftist dogma intended for millions of gamers while also already reportedly banning them from online play for criticizing the alphabet mafia in their game chat (I can dig the video link up if you like), is pretty crazy work.

I need my science fiction to have some kind of grounding in reality, it's what allows you to emotionally/psychologically invest into a piece of entertainment.

This game forces you to make leaps of logic with the female characters that ruin any real immersion.

Look around you. You (and maybe two other guys who show up occasionally when the actual slop requires its honor to be defended) are regularly arguing with the entire room in every game topic. Repeating the same tired strawman arguments and thrice debunked talking points. Over and over again like a broken record. Asserting things without evidence, or evidence that does not support the claims made

I think you're looking at things with rose colored glasses...I can say it's you and the same 3 people arguing for the slop in every gaming thread...using [H] as some of referendum on the state of gaming is ridiculous

And again you single out something you think you can argue against (poorly), while ignoring every other point that absolutely obliterates your position.

There is not a single pro argument for making female characters ugly and abrasive. It's not about being female or lesbian, or black, or whatever other strawmen you cling to. For there are examples of female / gay / black / lesbian etc. characters who are accepted because they are well written. So it is literally (not figuratively) impossible that these characters are rejected because of sexism, racism, homophobia, as you like to claim.

It's clearly not to sell games. Have you ever heard someone saying: "Well gosh darn, I'm not buying the game unless all women in it are ugly as hell!"

"But there are female gamers too!"
Yes, and they also prefer the pretty characters over the ugly ones. It was shown in a study that even the women who claim to be against "sexualizing" female characters in public will more often choose the sexy outfits / avatars in games.

So it is really time to stop defending this trend, because there is nothing worth defending here, you are not being virtuous, and pretending the problem is not the problem but the people who dare complain about the problem is just pure evil.

no one is making that argument...that's the argument you have created in your head to justify your narrative...I'm saying that it doesn't matter if the females in the game are hot or not hot...I'm playing for the gameplay and not for the titillation...it's up to the developer to make the game they want to make...the female characters need to fit the setting...sometimes they need to be more gruff...having the Stellar Blade character model in SW Outlaws would make no sense

Anybody actually playing the game? I downloaded it over the weekend, haven't gotten around to it yet.

You can make female characters fit a setting without resorting to making them look like NFL linebackers in drag. Your argument simply doesn't hold up. Graphics, art design, and character writing are all part of the experience. You continue to deny it, but these ugly, poorly written eyesores detract from that experience. Also, when you see that type of design work and shoehorned in identity politics, its a safe bet that the rest of the baggage that usually goes with those choices are going to be present. None of us are making the argument that every female character needs to be as hot as Eve or some First Descendant girl. Far from it. Unappealing character designs turn people off, be it male or female. That was clear in the Capcom study I posted that you like to distort and ignore the relevant points on, cherry picking the one aspect of it that suits your own narrative. Context is key to understanding something, but you can't seem to grasp that.

Games are a package. Combat, visual design, sound design, story, (where applicable), etc. are all part of that. No, they don't have to be done well in equal measure in all cases, but all facets of a game's design are important.

No, that was you labeling something preaching that wasn't preaching. It's literally what's happening right now. Games are being sacrificed at the Altar of Woke. You saying something is a thing doesn't make it that thing.
Preach on brothers!
Who cares if there is a gay, black character in the game? The game looks fun so that is all that matters.

I really liked how fun the parts where you don't have to do anything and the game plays itself for some sections.

Nothing like showing how little a developer thinks of their audience that you don't even have to play to win!

I can see why certain people would think that's fun.

I'm actually at the point in my life where I'm done dealing with people that are literally incapable of having a logical discussion. Your inability to see the point should be studied by psychologists.

Did Alien break your grounding in reality with Vasquez 40 years ago

was there an update? rebooted?

It looks like there was some sort of update today, but I never saw anything extra being downloaded. It's Gamepass, so that isn't always transparent.
Since the game size is gigantic, I tried a few other steps first (DDU/Drivers, reset all settings, etc.) but re-downloading the whole damned thing and resetting all settings to the defaults finally brought it back.

Everyone's going to Gamepass it

It's basically straight up wasted money on Steam unless you can guarantee you're going to get a quarter of a year of play time out of the game.

Same shit as Doom. Same shit as every Assassin's Creed. If you want to play the campaign, you just buy a month of their shit service and congrats you've cut 2/3rds of the game price off.

I played for about an hour last night, the new cover system is one of the coolest pieces of tech in a game I've ever experienced. They also nailed the horror elements so far. I only played a bit beyond the intro chapter and second one, so we'll see how it goes story wise but right now there's nothing really to comment on.

The game is gorgeous, maybe the best looking game I've ever played, and they nailed the audio. People running away on crowded streets and getting eaten or dragged into emergence holes is wild to watch. So far so good.

Don't have any comments on the characters so far they seem fine. It is sad to me people are actively rooting for this game to fail because there's a character they don't like or whatever, the game seems really impressive so far. If it does fail it's 100 percent because Microsoft insists on not killing their subscription model for games. Doom didn't die because it was woke or whatever, they launched it on game pass day 1 and now ID software doesn't exist anymore. I don't buy the loud, angry contingent online being reflective of reality, it rarely if ever is. There's a lot of dynamics that go into the success or failure of a game, a small group of folks is one aspect, not the whole story. Microsoft is a stupid company who's killing all of their IP because they don't know how to manage it properly. They've been on a downward trajectory for years, they can't even a good halo game any more. This game seems so far, from a thematic standpoint, gameplay feel, presentation, etc. that's pretty good, and it'll likely be the last one because of their insistence on putting games day 1 on gamepass.

Even if this game had non-woke approved TM characters, it'd still die because of the budget likely being in the hundreds of millions of dollars (rumor was 400 million), and its sales being crushed by game pass. I also think there's just fatigue generally with making the same games over and over for decades, a lot of people just don't come back, and younger generations don't play games like this as much anymore. Like I said, ton of dynamics here, biggest one being gamepass imo.

I have Gamepass, and I'm not even going to bother with it.

Do I really need to prefix this with "everyone who wants to play the game" because obviously

Hey guys I'm going to willingly not play this game that I don't want to play on a service that I've literally already given my money to

No you don't understand I have it on good authority the E in E-Day actually stands for Estrogen and...

I played for a bit, only had about 30 minutes but I enjoyed what little time I had. It still felt like a Gears game but the controls felt more responsive and animations were more fluid. I thought I was burnt out on the franchise and really couldn't care less about the prequel story but after what little I got to play I think I'll be giving this one a chance.
