The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt: Official Thread

Found a small glitch. Game told me I had XP to use, I used the points but the reminder keeps coming back with no available points.

Heads up, I've read some reports that the game is pulling almost 600w on a 5090. Folks with those cards should keep an eye on it given the power cable stuff.

Getting 420W in Novigrad 4K max settings including PT. DLSS RR 4.5 Performance (Preset F), Dynamic MFG (Preset B).

5090 is undervolted and it has a WireView II Pro.

Game seem pretty glitchy on PS5. I been getting crashes and my save file got corrupted.

Edit:
Played about 7 hour today and it has crashed 5 times. It was fine before the patch yesterday.

I don't know all the details of what was changed, but combat feels a lot worse now. I thought they were supposed to have improved it.

As I've said in other threads: Undervolt. UR. GPU. This reddit post is a good one to follow. Concerns about burning cables aside, it really does get you the same performance for less wattage when it works, and from the sounds of it, it nearly always does. It doesn't actually cap things like a power limit, you can still go to the full 600w under the right kind of load. When I run Furmark it'll still max out. However in games you are usually looking at 470w-ish max. That's less heat, less power usage, less fan noise, and of course a lot less connector heat since it is a non-linear relationship with amperage.

Hell I'd do undervolts on other cards too, just to save power and heat.

Quick test on my card, undervolted, of the first area (I've never played it, sue me) with RT maxed, PT off, getting 82fps I'm seeing about 410w power draw. Flip on PT, we are down to 58-60fps, and up to 500-510w, which is more than I've seen any other game draw. Still works out to less than 7a per pin though (I have a PSU with per pin monitoring). Flip off both PT and RT back to pure raster and still about 440w, but now 180fps. DLSS balanced using ray reconstruction when RT is on, 4k output.

While this is by no means a complete test ya, seems like something about the PT hits extra hard in this game. Personally I think I'll leave it off as it seems to look better with just RT rather than PT, though maybe they improve that later. Either way: With an undervolt, it seems to be doing just fine. It's worth doing. If it doesn't work on your card, that does suck, but it won't hurt to try and it really does sound like almost all 5090s work fine with the undervolt listed in the Reddit post. That's what I'm using. You can try more aggressive, some people do and succeed at getting even lower power draw, others fail but then you just drop back. You can also use it to OC but seriously, do you NEED to OC a 5090?

Testing in Cyberpunk, which I have a longer run of data that I logged and crunched the numbers on, average per-pin draw was around 6a, as opposed to more like 8.1a+ in Furmark. That actually works out to about half the dissipated heat on the connector since it heat rises with the square of current. Seems like a worthwhile safety margin to me for something that, as far as I can measure, didn't limit my performance at all.

If you don't wanna have to listen to those wailing women during combat , this mod is for you. I will definitely be installing it when I begin my playthrough

The original person mod has also been updated for remastered version
https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/5706?tab=description

A few others that look promising :
Brothers in arms
Friendly hud
Deaths reworked
Better and more blood
Critical Slomo redux
New fast travel signposts
Elder blood reshade remastered

the only mods i messed with were
fast travel from anywhere. this is actually really nice, and i feel I've "earned" it by the time I'm level 40. I also don't use it all the time, but definitely a lot.
Graphics stuff - haven't messed with this since the new version.
Corvo bianco stuff - this is probably the biggest letdown in tw3 for me. hearthstone in skyrim is sick, numerous fishtanks, TONS of armor stands for all the different armor sets. Can do quite a bit more to make the house look unique, trophy room with actual giant trophies. Mods can make these things in to literal castles too.

Corvo seems so small by comparison. The grounds are sick but the house itself is massively underwhelming. I would love a mod for this that let me show off all the different Witcher armor, massive wallmounts for the million different swords. Instead all you get are 8 spots for random paintings in a very dimly lit house, a few armor stands and mounts for swords that barely show off how cool some of them are.

Fast travel from anywhere and carry weight were the only ones I leaned heavy on back then.

I haven’t ran it yet but an update as big as this justifies a vanilla run.

The only mods I recall using were after an initial playthrough (in 2015) to revert some of the mesh/texture changes from later patches. Either way the 'next gen' and 'remastered' updates contain effectively a collection of user mods anyway (mesh and texture changes literally by the same modder, to the immersive time skip, etc).

I'm not a huge fan of this approach tbh as I feel like it's the B team that implement these long-past-release changes and they don't have the same artistic intent. Take Cyberpunk 2077 (which similarly implemented features from mods) where it changed the time skip UI from something that suited the existing UI to a Witcher 3 style radial that didn't match any other UI element (and was inspired by a fan mod IIRC, or at least almost certainly not designed by the original UI designer).

Also one of the changes in Cyberpunk implemented a feature from a user mod but in doing so caused a key feature to no longer work—even if modded (the original mod author confirmed this). So there they took a fan idea, made it worse and now the original full feature isn't possible.

I don't really care about home base stuff. I've spent maybe a total of 10 minutes in the house and only to clean up my inventory. The only thing that matters is the garden to harvest alchemy ingredients.

Carry weight is now a gameplay option in the remaster. You can even have unlimited carry weight without a mod now.
