My 7 year old is getting into 3d printing and I would like to set him up on something to play with design more while not having to share my main computer with him.

Touch screen would be a plus, but isn't completely necessary. Can be windows or chrome based. Linux might be fine also honestly.

So awesome to see him doing this at such a young age! All the best in the world in their field start out young like this. What's your budget and what do the specs need to be?

I don't have anything in mind other than tinkercad which is web based. He can use the touchpad or a mouse, but touchscreen is a bit more intuitive at times.

Hardware prices are crazy so I don't know if $100 can get me anything worth the effort, but I'd like to keep it in impulse buy territory in case his interest shifts if possible. I'm flexible.

Wish list would be something like 8gb of memory, touch screen, slightly rugged but not a tank (like a think book or dell), and maybe a backlit keyboard.

Also open to other ideas or suggestions. My design abilities are pretty sad so I have no idea how to guide him other than tinkercad at this point.

Take your pick. You can also have one of these for free. All have chargers. The envy is touch, but I'm not sure it works. Might be finicky.
