Marvel's Wolverine (Insomniac Games)

It's a blast, guys! A return to form!

I know people want to shit on it, but everyone normal I know playing the game has been enjoying it. I wouldn’t pay $70 for it though, I think that’s the biggest problem. There isn’t enough replayable content to justify that price.

Like I said yesterday I’m shockingly really enjoying the game. IMO most of the media I’ve seen online is hyper fixating on things that are pretty meaningless. The actual combat I find to be challenging and fun on the harder difficulty. It’s got impressive visuals, and I’m generally liking the story so far as well. I’d still only rate it 7/0 because $70 is a lot for a play it once type of game, but it’s not as awful as some people are saying. Importantly for me is that it’s way funner than spiderman 2 which reviewers rated higher. Spider-Man 2 felt like a chore to play, where this game doesn’t.

Thanks for the clarification.

Not really good at selling it. "The game isn't as awful as people are saying".
$70 for a game with no replay value and no open world is just too expensive. It’s great otherwise. I don’t think my statement is that confusing, nor am I trying to sell it. The issue is the price, not really much else.

I don't really have a problem if it is properly paced and the gameplay is good, as is everything else. But if the gameplay is shallow then I would agree. But same can be said for longer games. If anything, if a game is a passable 5-6/10, I would prefer it to be short rather than long. From what I can see this game looks okay. I liked the Spider-Man games except for some of the open world activities which would get a bit repetitive and forced in some sequences.

The main thing that looks annoying with this is the over use of direction markers. I don't mind some, but this has a whole lot. I assume there is an option to disable or reduce them... if not that is a bit of a fail on their part.

Seven seems too steep to me if I'm being honest.

huge open world games are worth $70...short linear games are not...but I still love the custom Wolverine PS5 console and controller

Someone was streaming themselves out of bounds yesterday in a daylight map. Could be the same thing on a different map.
I've seen so many unique glitch videos today. My algorithm is locked into IDGAF about this homoerotic game. It's pretty wild how many folks are running damage control.

I don't think I've really been into games that land somewhere between "actual game" and Mixtape, so overall this thing just ain't for me for sure... Clearly there's some sort of audience, and fans just want something, and maybe some other groups...

It looks like a third of a billion dollar hunk of dookie to me. I really don't understand where all the money went, it definitely doesn't seem to have made its way into the "game."

Just another example of the writers not having a clue about the lore. It contains spoilers so only click on it if you don't care about being spoilered.

That title in the thumbnail really says it all doesn't it? Not that the narrative director's comments about Sabertooth and Wolverine's relationship didn't.

it's a major hit!

Marvel’s Wolverine Is Outselling Every PS5 Exclusive Since Spider-Man 2

In its first three days on the market, the game sold 1.9 million copies and generated $130 million in revenue...one million of those were pre-launch digital pre-orders, and 22.9% of the revenue came from physical sales, a notably high share for a 2026 release

for context on what that means in practice: Wolverine has already passed Death Stranding 2's entire PS5 lifetime performance...it's also the top-performing new PlayStation Studios game on PS5 this year, and sits at number six among all new PS5 releases by revenue in 2026 after only three days on sale

based on the firm's data, Wolverine has started off selling faster than practically every PS5 game released in the last three years, with the exception of Insomniac's own Marvel's Spider-Man 2...

$130 million on a $300+ million budget. So much winning.

its not a "major hit", its just happens to have sold the most copies in the selection of turds this year.

"I’m enjoying some things about the game too, mostly the characters and the combat animations (Liam McIntyre’s Logan is a highlight for me). But yes, candidly, Wolverine doesn’t do much to move the genre forward, and it feels a little disjointed in parts.

You can really see that Insomniac struggled with the design and development of Wolverine. Some aspects feel like hangovers of an older, open-world-focused build that’s been repurposed, while other segments feel hollow and almost random design-wise.

But this makes sense given how many high-profile leads left during development. It reminds me a bit of the whole Uncharted 4 debacle, where Amy Hennig and her game director left Naughty Dog mid-project, the game reportedly had some open-world ideas, then Druckmann and Straley came in to salvage the project. The 2023 Insomniac leak pretty plainly listed Wolverine’s open-world ambitions.

The difference is Naughty Dog pulled it together into a masterpiece that sold 2.7M in week one (on a 40M PS4 install base). Wolverine probably won’t manage that (and on a 95M installed base), but Wolverine‘s audience is likely a more casual one."

I've read that it has to sell at least 6 mil copies in the first year for Sony to consider it a success and also for them to retain the Marvel license on future games, and 7 mil to fully account for all production costs of the game.

I'd say if they don't at least sell 3 mil in the first week, it's going to be a long road to 6 mil. Their best hope is they see a surge at Christmas when kids are getting their consoles and games.

"Expect a bump when the MCU kicks into gear this December with the release of Avengers: Doomsday, which features the X-Men...Wolverine might also benefit from the expanded PS5 install base that will inevitably kick in with the release of GTA 6 in November...and Wolverine is sure to prove a popular choice under the Christmas tree"

Best selling exclusive since Spoderman 2? What exclusives have they had since that lol? Concord? They need to proabaly sell a other 8 million to break even. Maybr 8 million won't even be enough. I read that Disney take a huge cut. Like 1/3. This will be $40 in a month.

People never wanted Spiderman 2 they wanted this game the entire time.
Spider-Man 2 would have been substantially better if you removed all the useless open world low effort missions and just made it linear. So yes, the design of this game was absolutely in response to Spider-Man 2. Problem is that $70 is a lot to ask for a linear one and done game.

I was wondering where that 1.9m sold figure came from because it def wasn't from Sony or Isomniac.

so let me get this straight...when any publisher/developer puts out good sales number you say it's BS because it's coming from the publisher and they are not counting actual copies sold etc...so when an independent 3rd party company puts out the sales numbers you're now saying you can't trust it because it's not coming directly from the publisher/developer?...seriously??????...just because you don't want to believe the numbers does not make it any less valid

instead you're going to believe some random nobody on YouTube who is basing everything off his feelings with no facts to support his assertion that the numbers Alinea Analytics put out are false...they are a totally respectable company that is not getting paid by any developer or publisher...they are a Games Market Data company and they report estimated sales using their own tools on recently released games

Jeff Grubb on Alinea Analytics: "talked to people in the industry, their estimates are not perfect but pretty good, usually closer than anyone else"

It's still not the actual number of sales. It's determined by trends in other data, the same kind of data SteamDB uses to estimate sales. May as well use player numbers.

As usual, you completely miss the point. Selling 1.9 million copies isn't good.

This game cost over 300 million dollars to make. Even if it did sell 1.9 million copies, that's not even close to making the game profitable. This is a game that needs to sell somewhere between 5 and 6 million copies at a minimum to break even. That seems very unlikely at this point. Games usually do the bulk of their sales during the initial few days of their release. Cyberpunk 2077 sold 13 million copies on its first day. Black Myth Wukong sold 10 million copies in its first three days of release. 1.9 million copies in a week against a budget of 3 million is NOT success. Sure, it will sell more units. That's a given but the sales will slow way down from here on out. And of course, Assassin's Creed Valhalla took six months to sell 10 million copies but it also sold 3.5 million in its first week. Black Flag did 2 million in a day.

Wolverine is tracking to be a flop.

The narrative director constantly confirming he's never read a comic book in his life.

Yes, Wolverine is canonically 5'3". Both Wolverine and Sabertooth are also canonically alpha males. And the rage comes from the fact Sabertooth raped and murdered Silver Fox, and he amuses himself by maiming people Wolverine cares about on his birthday, including Wolverine's own son who Sabertooth ripped apart and spelled "happy birthday" on the ground with the body parts.
