Gears of War: E-Day

what is that picture trying to say- that Mike Rayner and Kate Rayner are the same person?...lol...related? :ROFLMAO:

where the fuck did i say that? i provided you an answer and you try to put words in my mouth... but there is that^

at this point you have to assume that trans/gay/bi/black/hispanic are a part of all large and small developers...they may not always make videos or go on Twitter talking about it but they are there...all of your past, present and future games will be made by a diverse group of people...the world is already this way...if you don't like it you can always move to Uruguay

are you referring to software ray tracing or hardware RT?
Hardware. They can make it trace full polys, but performance is bad that way, so they usually have much lower poly geometry they use for ray tracing. You can often see toggling views of it in technical showcase type videos. This isn't just a ue5 lumen thing, pretty much all engines with ray tracing do that for performance reasons.

Software lumen uses an even lower approximation that's not even polygons.

what about path traced games?...still using low polygon?

Yeah, typically lower polygons for path tracing too. It isn't just all lower poly meshes though, they do differeing LOD based on distance and all of the same tricks they use for the polygons you actually see, just with even lower polygon stuff.

Another game that requires hardware ray tracing GPUs, also a UE5 game. Along with Ace Combat 8, looks like a new trend of ray tracing hardware GPU requirements for upcoming games is becoming a thing. At this point just about everyone who wants to play modern games should have some type of GPU that supports hardware ray tracing, but if you're on older 4-5 year old mid range GPUs things aren't going to look or run very good for you going forward I would think.

I'm glad to see more games support HW RT instead of software RT

Consumer video cards supporting hardware ray tracing have been around for 8 years. id Tech 8 also requires hardware ray tracing. And people still bitch about the SSD requirement when those have been around for much longer.

Yes but some of those are barely usable for ray tracing. RTX 2060, etc.

Problem is ray tracing often requires frame generation to get decent frame rates and that uses a lot of VRAM. I found 12GB to be insufficient for a number of games if using frame generation with ray tracing. Even with Death Stranding 2 I found frame generation resulted in stuttering and VRAM usage was too much for my 5070ti with 16GB, and that is only at 2560x1440. I can see people using something like a 3060 really struggling with this. This was always true for raster games as well but ray tracing does require a good bit more relatively.

Trying to run a game on an >8 year old video card now would be like trying to run Doom 2016 on a 9800GTX.
