What Is Your Personal Favorite Video Card of All Time?

I have to say that my current PNY RTX 5070ti is my favorite card of all time. I don't know if the air flow in my Corsair Frame 4000x is just really that good, but that card is whisper quiet even playing stuff like Borderlands 4, Cyberpunk 2077 and DA:V. Even when the fans ramp up I can barely hear them.

Another DA:V player! I'm going through that game now. Is it as good as the prior games in the series? No, not really. Am I still having a good time playing it? Yes, absolutely.

My biggest gripes with that game are 1) A lot of lore seems directly contradictory to what was established in earlier games, and 2) it has a memory leak that makes it crash for me pretty consistently every hour or 2 with the eye candy ramped up -- and this is unlikely to ever get fixed :(.

I enjoyed all of the previous DA games and have really enjoyed the game play in Veilguard. I haven't experienced any crashes and I only have the last battel to complete.

Hi All
I have to say the EVGA GeForce 8800GTX is my favorite card of all time. I always give away cards when I upgrade, the one exception, the GeForce 8800GTX. The card is still working as it's in my Windows Legacy machine.

I have soft spots for two cards:

The Creative 3D Blaster PCI — it was my first, and as a Rendition card it meant I was playing 3D-accelerated Quake before all the 3dfx latecomers.

The GeForce 256 — it wasn't just the first GPU (according to Nvidia's definition), it was a big leap in overall performance.

My favorite video card:

ATI Rage LT Pro on my Compaq Presario. Piece of shit but got me into 3D gaming. Prior, my only experience was the PSX. Bilinear filtering, running Tomb Raider 2 at 1024x768 and seeing how clear it could look while playing better than my PSX was my gateway drug.

Next card after was the Radeon 9700pro. Lasted me quite a while.

Currently my favorite card is a GTX-1070 I bought used for $100. Still using it. Plenty for our Plasma.

Since Pascal, video cards just haven't been exciting.

Same with my first GPU - Geforce 2 MX 400 64MB PCI.

I used to play a game called "Emperor: Battle for Dune". It needed a 3D accelerator to work. Intel Integrated Graphics was plenty to run it, but not well. You could not run it on high as the framerates were way too low. I got this idea that maybe a graphics card might help it run faster. An $80 GPU moved the game from a good experience at 800x600 medium settings on the Intel Integrated Graphics.... to 1280x1024 at highest settings. From that point forward, I was a PC enthusiast.

Ahh, memory Lane. My 1080 Ti is still running my VR setup until I can replace the headset and use my current computer. Sadly my 4600 Ti was sold for my 6600 GT, the SLI adapter for the Voodoo 2 was sold for the Geforce 2 MX 32, and that was sold for the 4600. My 8800 GTX cooked itself but came with a free 9800 GTX replacement (thank you BFG) and that was given to a family member when I got the 5850. All have been awesome for different reasons but I still hold the 4600 Ti was my most transformative. That poor thing went through hell and kept on giving lol.

ya didnt mention the first pic. only bugging cause might be my pick

I had Voodoo 2 in SLI as well and while it was great I was also an image quality guy and was actually quite happy when all in 1 video cards meant you didn’t need 3 slots used and did not have to settle for imperfect image quality. 3dfx made you realize that 3d pc gaming was going to be awesome and viable and not lagging behind arcades and consoles.
The other memorable early card was the original 9700xt which I bought before half life 2 came out. The early leak build was poorly optimized and janky but it blew my mind as a generational leap forward. Nothing else on any platform looked and played like that. A lot more people got the later 9800 / xt but those were just minor iterations on the 9700 and a bit of a disappointment to me, expecting another generational leap forward. I was a video card junkie and bought and sold pretty much every video card in that era or got to borrow them from friends and family or play with them when doing custom builds for others. Voodoo, early geforce cards and the 9700xt are my standouts in retrospect.

7970 was a great card! And it kept staying solid for sooo long. Nothing for a while after it really moved the needle far enough ahead for me to justify the cost  Until the 1080 Ti. Which I ran till the 50XX series turned out to be vaporware lol. But the 7970 was a solid card.

3dfx voodoo 2 in SLI. It was my first foray into high performance graphics and dang was it high performance. I was 16 or 17 yo and was able to afford those. It had the biggest impact for me due to really being that once in a lifetime wow factor that was never really the same. Alot of youbreading this weren't even sperm cells yet when these monsters of graphics cards were released.

That's the same setup I had. Specifically for Unreal. Good times.

It was previously my ATI 9800, 295x2, and 1080 ti, but I think it may end it being my current 5090. It's so far beyond the power that I need, runs flawlessly and cool, and at this point, it will likely be my primary card until I'm dead. I could also sell it for nearly twice I bought it.

While I loved my ATI Radeon 9700 Pro, I think my favorite was still the Radeon 8500LELE I found for $85 and flashed it to stock and then OC'd it even further. Man that card was well worth the money.

The only thing that sucked about that card is I could not afford one back then. :)
You could have bought two 6800 vanillas for nearly the same cost, unlocked them to GTs, and put them in SLI. It's what I did. ~50% more performance for 20% more money.

They got me back though next gen when I splurged on a late-cycle 7800 gtx 512mb, then they came out with 8800 gtx a few months later which utterly demolished the 7800 series.

I have an old 1050 ti I used forever until I jumped to an RTX3050 last year. I bought a Radeon RX 9060xt a few weeks ago before I couldn't afford a new card anymore. Even then, the price jumped 70 bucks in a week.

I don't have a single favorite, just notable ones in chronological order:

Tseng Labs ET4000 - Wicked fast ISA interface that was a must for Wolf 3D in the early 90s.

Several S3 cards in the 90s which brought 2D acceleration and faster 32bit VLB interfaces for Doom. One of these was the Diamond Stealth 24 - you could store custom monitor settings for each resolution on the card itself. This was before CRT multi-sync monitors had good settings controls for different scan rates. Owned and sold several Number 9 S3 cards.

Matrox Millennium and Mystique

Riva 128 - First 3D card. It wasn't a Voodoo2 but it was close and was cheap.

Voodoo3 3000 - Just a really nice card with Glide

Voodoo5 5500 - Been addicted to anti-aliasing ever since. Last look at what could have been.

ATI 9800Pro - The first really good 3D video card I owned.

GTX285 - A really nice card with long legs.

1070TI and 1070TI SLI - Underrated card. 1080 performance at lower cost and power.

1080TI, specifically the EVGA 1080TI FTW3. Undervolted and overclocked a beast of a card. Even nicer in SLI.

Most recent addition is the Titan Xp. This card really surprised me. In 2026, the G.O.A.T. is not the 1080 TI, it is the Titan Xp. A Titan Xp, running at 191W TDP matches a 1080TI running balls out at 250W. Titan Xp can run at 1797 MHz undervolted at a max power of about 220W and it is faster than a stock Titan Xp. The other factor is the memory on the Titan Xp is so much better. In addition to the extra 32 bits, it can run at 6300MHz where the 1080TI FTW3 cannot run the memory much past 5962 Mhz. At 220W, the "crappy" blower can keep the core temp below about 72C and it is practically silent. The build quality of the blower is actually very high and repasting is a cakewalk without disturbing any of the other thermal pads.

I think the last Titan Xp was missed because of its high price ($1200), and the previous Pascal Titan wasn't that great, as it only had the extra memory, same core count, and the DVI connector on the blower cooler made thermals much worse. The 1080TI FE wasn't that great because it burned the same power as the Titan Xp with less performance.

In raster performance, Titan Xp in SLI with the right game is at RTX 4080 performance levels at a bit more power (440W vs 320W). The kicker is Titan Xps can be had today for ~$135 delivered.

I found graphics cards a lot more fun before the crypto-craziness and latest AI price pumping crap occurred.

Quantum3D Obsidian2 X24 cost me $700 at a Babbages back in 98. Considering it wasn't even a fully fledged graphics card I don't feel bad about paying $700 for a 9070XT in 2026.

I guess what i have my vega56 its doing good but im saving it a lot and no havent overclocked it much. havent been playing anything that needs it and all the fps wont run on 1903 build and want windows 11/1909 build/prewview..i just havent cared and i guess my key didn't ever qualify for the free 11 upgrade. i never got anything from updates or the Microsoft website.

I would not run a board on an ESD bag -- some of them have conductive surfaces. It's the same reason you wouldn't run a board on a piece of aluminum foil.

Half this thread are geezers like me with rose-colored glasses and/or trying to show off that they had early GPUs. I also once scored four touchdowns in one game at Polk High.

My Voodoo3 was great in that it was a harbinger of things to come, but it certainly wasn't my favorite card.

Love the reference to Al Bundy peaking in high school!

My list was just the ones I have some fond memories of - I skipped several cards that ended up being meh in the end, like the 8800GTS320, 8800GTS512, EVGA GTX670FTW, and GTX980. None of the cards I've had were expensive when purchased, perhaps that is why I don't have a favorite.

Missed out on the 8800 GTX, there was a time in the mid 2000s when that was the card to have, but it was pricey.

Seriously?

Firing up Unreal for the first time using Glide? Not a favorite memory? Quake II Arena?

Did you sleep through those days? Because entire enthusiast ecosystems evolved out of the Glide API.

Im addicted to the vega56 the horsepower in 1080p-1440p...but my screen i'm using is a 27in vizio so 1080p on high/ultra is addicting still...try more ultra settings a lot clearer with a horse power card...I want get an nvidia card but they never came down on the rtx 3050 windforce probaly just a good horsepower card why they never came off it. or idk try the asrock/intel arc380..i hate to downgrade and get a 4gb card would still like to get at least a 6 but the 8gb probaly is still some sweet spot stuff. now you can say what you want about the zalman raven case its for sure a diy case and alot not lining up..and tearing off gpu brackets and no i/o cover. I'm making something standard measurement when its metric kinda stuff. but yeah real cool. its being a cooler case than my ibuypower bulldozer am3 case. I know me i just don't care and a 40 dollar case is fine and don't have to be much.

Hd 5850 with three screens. Some games were a pain to setup or didn't work at all with eyefinity, but overall experience was peak. Lots of racing games on that.

16 years ago lol...

Had two Powercolor LCSs in Crossfire at one point. I remember getting Dragon Age and Fallout NV to run in Eyefinity was finicky, but a marvel.

They all started eventually producing artifacts due to bad VRAM. Still being in warranty, Powercolor NA did me a solid and replaced with two 6970s (air-cooled which I was fine with).

I feel that. Want to say I had a 6950 do that. Can't remember the brand.

Powercolor bought years of brand loyalty from me for doing me that solid. And better, they had them shipped to me in under a week which minimized the downtime in my mining at the time. I still really only buy their cards when I go AMD.

Come to think of it, those 5870 LCSs were one of my favorite cards, not because they were stellar performers (the did run super cool, if I recall), but because they basically gave me a free upgrade path to the next gen.

I had an EVGA 7950GT, and that thing just was not impressive. I bought it when the 8800GTX/S were released (but couldn't afford one of those), but then it crapped out a few days after the return policy to Newegg and the 8800 GT released. I reached out to EVGA and they replaced the card with the 8800GT!! Now THAT was an upgrade; absolutely loved that card. That card probably got me more into PC Gaming than anything before it. Played Crysis and Crysis Warhead on it like a champ around 30FPS haha!

Edit: I'm old and I already replied to this topic and told this story.

My fave is always the replacement. So right now its my 5080, before it was my 4070Ti, then 3070Ti, and before that was my 980 Classified, and before that was my GTX 580 Matrix Platinum lol.. what did I have before that? Oh yeah 570 SLi, and before that I had 285 SLi (I think) and before that was a 295.. and before that was a 9600XT I think.. had a 4890 in there too somewhere. Hated it.

Usually when I say good bye to a GPU is because it does not do what I want it to anymore, or it could never do it properly to begin with..
