The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt: Official Thread

they are trying to build up hype and anticipation for the new expansion...would have been really insane if they included the new DLC for free...I wonder how much the Songs of the Past DLC will be
That is asking a little much to give the DLC for free. There is a lot of work put into the remaster and stuff. If they were Eaw or Ubislop they would charge atleast $60 for the remake.

I think they might have put more work into the Witcher 3 remaster than the Songs of the Past DLC...all of this is one long hype train...Witcher 3 remaster builds towards Songs of the Past which leads into Witcher 4

I can't imagine the 'remaster' adds much more than the 'next gen' update. Judging by the scrolling text of features various are things already in the next gen update (and even the shot used for 'new powers' in the trailer was a power that was already available in Blood & Wine). Guess it's something to generate some news leading to the release.

Either way I haven't played since Blood & Wine so excited to buy it.

Edit: oh, I didn't glean from the trailer that Blood & Wine and Hearts of Stone are becoming free for existing base game owners in that version, just checked news about it. Though tbh the GOTY version (which includes both expansions) has been the only version available to buy for many years (only owners who bought early would have the non-GOTY version).

so just having the base game gets you everything now- the next gen update along with this new Remastered version...everything except for the upcoming Songs of the Past DLC

I read the first book, maybe I'll read the rest and play in 2027 when the expansion comes out

read all the books, re-play all the games and watch all the seasons of the Netflix series (the final Season 5 comes out in early 2027)

I'd rather redacted myself than watch that show. If there's a witcher 1 remake I'll wait for it. 2 was fine but I'll probably just read the books and play it. Maybe it'll line up with me neing unemployed like it did in 2015 since my field is genuinely dying.

They are giving away Hearts of Stone, and Blood and Wine for free... so.. who knows. Give it another 10 years and you might get this new expack for free too ;)
But that is only if you buy the new Remastered edition, I don't think those who already has the base game will get the expansions for free when the update comes?
The nextgen update made the game look great, so it will be interesting to see if this will improve it noticeably. Looking forward to the 3rd expansion.

Yeah, it will, though the trailer doesn't communicate it clearly.

IGN said:
The Witcher 3 Remastered — and the current game, as of today — will also include access to the game's first two expansions at no additional cost.

Edit: official support page explaining it. Apparently they're discontinuing updating the standalone game version and rolling all the updates into the GOTY/Complete version.

Wow, that's very nice of them. I remember Gearbox gave away a free DLC to Borderlands 2, a very good one at that, to hype Borderlands 3, and it shows that some companies still remember that not being total assholes towards your customers can in fact build some kind of loyalty that may make you more monies in the long run.

Was a bit concerned at first but second track starts to have its own identity. I liked how each of the original expansions had distinctive motifs.

This is unexpected but great news. I had just beaten the Witch 3 for the first time ever about 4 months ago or so. I thought the enhanced version was pretty good looking. The news here and the short video shows they are putting some work into this new remaster. Free? Yes thank you!

I was ready for a replay of this last winter but my Xbox controller died and I got busy so never got around to it. Now I'm glad I gave it another year to have this for a replay and then a new DLC to finish with. This is gonna be peak gaming for me, at leastoutsidethe flightsim stuff I usually stick to these days. Definitely won't be bored this winter!

Cry me a river, enjoy your dated graphics, perhaps you should stick to consoles.
Yikes. I watched a video of this and his face looked different in each scene. They need some kind of static seed value system for face details. This static shot looks good, but i think the remaster does look better personally. It is missing some of the micro shadowing shown here on his outfit tho (DLSS 5 does a good job with this). DLSS 5 will be useful but the mod version is pretty mixed imo.

You must have looked at a video created by a muppet turning setting up to "11", his face is the same in my game:

I played this when it originally released but an update borked my modded save file so I was locked out of finishing it even though I think I was almost done (Last things I remember are Ceri on the dwarf island and an epic fight at the castle as it's being shielded and bombed). I finally have a reason to go back and re-play it again. Hopefully they fixed some of the annoyances; fast travel, 99.9% of loot being worthless, etc.

every comparison video ive watched has had the sliders maxed. you paid for "11" why wouldnt you use it?!
Because the whole idea of ranges on tuning software is that they should go beyond anything you'd likely use just in case you need it. Do you also turn up all the sliders in Reshade, in game, or on your monitor to max like brightness, contrast, saturation, etc? No? Why not?

The people who just crank everything up are either dopes or are doing it in bad faith. If you want to evaluate it, well do it how you'd evaluate any other Reshade plugin: Test out the settings, dial them in to what looks good and when in doubt, go more subtle and closer to the original.

Like in my DAW, I can toss an instance of the Pro Q4 equalizer on the output and I can crank the Q (width) to 0.025, which is as wide as it goes and is essentially the entire frequency band. I can then crank the amplitude up to +30dB, which is as high as it goes by default... and it'll sound like ass, whatever I had will now be heavily clipping. Heck I can make it worse by stacking multiple filters on top of each others, Pro Q will let me stack on 24 filters per instance and I can crank them all up like that. I could completely blow out any signal chain with it. There's no reason you'd ever use stupid settings like that. In fact, any one of those is probably not something you'd use. I really can't think of a case where you'd use a 30dB EQ boost, or cut. That is just an insane amount. Even 10dB is getting in to "what did you do wrong, probably need to re-record that" territory. Likewise a Q that wide just is never useful, as I said it is basically the entire frequency band, you've turned an EQ in to a volume knob.

So why can you do that? So that the range isn't the limit. They go beyond what is reasonable so that you won't hit a situation where you go "Shit, I need more gain, a smoother curve, more bands, etc" and not have it.

Same shit with DLSS 5. The top of the range on anything SHOULD be something that is pushing beyond what you'd realistically want, so that it can be dialed in to a level that you DO want. It shouldn't be a case where you are pushing the top end of the slider and saying "Man I wish this went higher, I would like to increase the effect even more."
