Welding new power connectors to the RTX 5090

YouTube has Closed Caption support and it worked well in English.

That was an interesting video. Guys have some seriously huge gonads to do that to a 5090.

Huge gonads, absolutely. I myself prefer just to plug-in the connector correctly, but that's just me.

LTT managed to do this over a year ago without having it look like a complete piece of shit.

The best way would be to design a terminal block with beefy mechanical connections that solders into the existing through-holes.

Yes indeed, that does look rather awful for a $5000 card.
 
That soldering.. :eek: Looks like cold soldering, but I can understand the reluctance to warm up the material enough to get a proper solder on a 5090.
 
But those lucky enough to get hold of a 5090 could alleviate the problem by undervolting and adjust the power limit curve, no? Wouldn't neccessarily limit the card much, and it'd be a cheap insurance IMO.
 
You can and it helps, but the connector can still melt, because of the lack of load balancing. It's not an insurance.
 
Those solder joints look like he was having trouble getting enough heat into them -- needs a higher wattage iron. One the bright side, that means there was a lot of metal there, so the connections are likely solid if they are not cold solder joints. But no, not pretty.
